Reference images are below the sequence, these images I got from photo.net and have not asked for permission from the authors so please don't publish these.

The bird is the cover for a guide for new freshman college students to keep their spiritual identity -- therefore the bird looks almost surreal as if from a dream -- it is supposed to represent a young student taking flight into the academic world.

The actual image was made in 4000px by 2500px at 72px/in

That is wonderful! I love the realism. The detail is amazing, very well done. I like what you did with the feather effects and the color choice. Very surreal as you mentioned. It's cool how you used just a lot of simple gradients and lines, and then when you zoom out it looks so real, great stuff.
I would suggest some motion effect with the wings though, just to add to th realism of the pic. Also the gray background is a little bland, like a forrest background or even a solid primary color would really add to this piece. Overall though, excellent work!
