I left my architecture school, finally decided that I intend to work with draw, because as a child I could'nt stop in front of a paper for 2 minutes that I was scribbling it all, and that has'nt changed so far in college.

Now come the questions. What to study?
I was interested in getting the course in Graphic Design, but now I'm not sure a degree is really what I need, or if I do several smaller courses, but related to drawing, such as anatomy, Digital Illustration, or even a course in Basic Drawing to "start from the beginning."

Moreover, as I'll be stopped until next year, I wanted a routine training and study to become better for myself as much as possible ... Who knows if I can get in line to the coming years I will not continue in this self learning?
But how to establish a daily routine that works? What topics should I improve, start studying, etc?
I made a basic schedule of my daily routine, I plan to follow through the next year, with 7 hours of drawing per day, do you think is enough?

I would be grateful if you guys answer all my questions and help me in this "journey".

Thank you. ;)

P.S.: Sorry for the bad english... It was self taught too. lol

Some of my work just to show how I'm late for my age (20 years, almost 21: () ... lol

A work in lead pencil, and the dragon done in marker pen. The dragon was photo took, so the low quality of the image.

If you study Graphic Design you will not learn illustration, graphic design is for the ones who like to make magazines, advertizings, web sites, packaging, logos, brochures and things like that. I recommend looking for an Art school, or try to find a course with a profesional illustrator who can teach you what you need, privately, that's what I am doing.

Check out the DVD at http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com and any online resource like http://fineart.sk/, the more you study the better, good luck!.

I was always told that graphic design provides a basis of various concepts and can be very useful for illustrators and concept artists, but actually I had this doubt, if it would be helpful to have that degree. So what should I do is what I said in my previous post, look for smaller courses that address the various areas of drawing?

What about my other questions ... I wish more people would give their opinions, would be enlightening. :sungod:

First off, get out of your head that "I`m late for my age" conception, you are just 20 man, there are lots of artists that were a lot older than you when they started, you can be 70 and work your ass off and be an exceptional artist when you reach 80.

Now, I can`t talk about schools because I`m self taught; but if you want to be an illustrator, a degree in graphic design is not gonna take you in that direction; I suggest looking for an art school like Christian223 said.

Or if you want to take the self taught route like myself:

-study Loomis and Bridgman for anatomy, mastering anatomy is gonna take you a few years; I also suggest drawing from life; life drawing workshops are great and you learn a lot; also do lots of anatomy studies from medical anatomy books, they are the ultimate reference.

-Study to get an understanding of value without color, light and shadows, just shading with tones of grays and learn how light falls over objects.

-Do copies of great paintings, if you want to be an illustrator; the best bet is to copy from the masters like Rembrandt, if you want to work digital do it digital and get a wacom tablet, it`s gonna help you out a lot.

Thx for the advices, gonna look for Loomis and Bidgman material and start study soon. Have a suggestion from where to start? Or just eating the books should work? Hehe.

Yeah, sure I'll have to do that. But I'm without a scanner, and taking photos of the works will turn them more crap that they actually are. lol

Thanks again for the answers... :lounge:
