Hi guys,
it's me again asking help. This time my problem is layer. No brush seems to create a mark on new empty layer. But all brosh works fine on the default (locked) layer.
My painter x wasn't like this before, I was even able to finish one illustration. I just foud out about the problem last night while testing patterns.
I even tried uninstalling the program and install it again, no luck.
Is there anyone out there having or had the same problem?
I havn't done a google search about this as CA's my first stop when having technical issues like this.
Anyone got the answer or could point me to the right direction?
Thanks heeps guys...

bring the layer palette up (ctrl+4 by default) and make sure your preserve transparency box isn't turned on;
however, sometimes you'll need to click there a few times because it might get "stuck"

wow! it worked ikken! don't know how, but when I create new layer, the tick box for preserve transparency isn't on, but I clicked it and clicked again. And it worked.
That issue took a chunk from my work time, and know I can go back.
Thanks a lot ikken, owe u one.

I have exactly the same thing with "pick up underlying colour" - it's always turned on when I create new documents and new layers in those, however the checkbox isn't activated.

This is a well know bug in version X. The Preserve Transparency box isn't visibly ticked but is actually on, and you have to tick and untick to turn it off. Very annoying, if you don't know what's happening.
Seems fixed in Version 11... at least I haven't experienced it in 11, but it used to happen all the time in X.

never had prob with pick up underlying color, but that preserve transparency had me worried. Had a go with Painter 11 before, yeah, preserve transparency seems to be working smoothly. Now I find my self clicking twice on that tick box.
But all is good :P

Hi, I happen to have this very problem using the oil pastel drip brush from this set http://zhuzhu.deviantart.com/art/My-Painter-IX-Custom-Brushes-55223889 It wont paint on new transparent layers like bWorx mentioned. I tried clicking the preserve transparency, but doesn't work. It's in painter 11. Any ideas anyone?
Sorry to hijack the thread, just thought it would be better than starting a thread for more or less the same thing.

that's ok Alucid, it's all good.
I tried the brush in question, downloaded it from the link, and here's what I found.
I think the brush was derived from a smear or smudge brush variant, the the ones under blender brush. What the oil pastel drip does is not actually color, but push pixels. Try painting with other brush on an empty layer, and use the oil pastel drip to paint over it (on the same layer), and the brush will work. But as you stroke along the edge of the painted part, oil pastel drip wont paint anymore but push the pixels.
What gives it color is the "resat" properties, that you can find under brush control>Well tab. It was set to pressure by default.
I don't think this brush was ment to be used as a starting brush for an empty transparent layer. Maybe it's for overpainting, or second coating. Just a hunch.

Ahhh I see now. I tried that and you're right :) I just used the default round brush then the oil pastel drip. Works great. Thanks you. I love this little set of brushes :)

Any of Painter's brush variants that use Method: Drip won't work on transparent areas of a Layer (check Brush Controls > General palette to find the Method).
