Quick Question - Is my pic visible to you all? I can't see it from my laptop due to the firewall and subnet I'm on compared to the location of my webserver.

Seems like a good topic for everyone. This one taught me a couple of lessons, for instance how not to scan my sketchbook, not to use 2h pens and 3b afterwards… a couple of others too.

i think you'd have to be pretty darn pathetic to be eating rocks, so that's why they look like something pooped them out. they're no bigger than your hand, and they get beat up by the other animals if they try and eat anything other than rocks.

Nice works everybody! @kirt: Your one made me smile for minutes :D Hilarious!
@Wednesday: Now after posting and reviewing the thread I see mine is like a cousin of yours. Though not attended, that's not the only reason I like yours so much. Great work!

Super quickie (like 10 minutes):

http://thirdroar.com/dj/2004-01/dj238-rockeater.jpg

I know I should put more time into these, but I've been such a slacker lately and not even doing the DSGs at all, I figure a small attempt is better than none at all.

Kirt - Hah! I love it, I actually laughed out loud. :)
Mikecorriero - a whole page of sketches! those are cool I especially like the teeth you came up with for most of those beasts.
pol - I certainly hope you'll keep posting, because that's awesome!

Okay, I always get spanked for long replies so I'll stop there.

great topic, I had fun with this one.

http://www.waltzpowell.com/conceptart/StoneEaterColor.jpg

From the journal of Dr. Harvey Whitford, 1914

The Stone Eater of northern Europe can be found on misty days eating bluestone from ancient stone circles. Bluestone or dolerite is a hard stone that is composed of calcium, magnesium, and aluminosilicate from which the Stone Eater possibly finds nourishment. Fortunately since the rate of stone disappearance is low, one megalithic stone must support a Stone Eater for many years. The Stone Eater has also on occasion been sighted chewing on a live animal or tree, but does not appear to ingest the contents, the reason for this can only be guessed at. Unfortunately a specimen has never been found for examination, however what appears to be a tooth was found at the Avebury stone circle after the disappearance of a megalithic stone there. The tooth has defied analysis and its ultimate composition still remains a mystery, however it appears to be a hard crystalline surface that is nearly unbreakable seemingly similar to diamond.

Didn't feel like touching my computer too much after work tonight... pencil sketch with some quick shadows airbrushed in Photoshop.

Rocks are so tasty that he even eats himself.

This is one of the best DSGs in a while! Everyone's participation really makes the difference. Too many amazing "Rock Eaters" to mention just a few.

Til tomorrow...

Hi to all.

So I was more interested in drawing the rocks than the eater. Rock eating slug that dissolves and digests the rocks as it goes.

Great work everyone!!!

STEREO: That simply rocks! I envy your capacity of simplifying shapes!

Well, king CROPOS used to eat blue rocks at his throne, an old tradition based on the fact that those stones provided the strength necessary to make every pregnant woman of him, give to birth four or more kids each time.
When CROPOS died at the young age of 36 (a big rock piece got stucked in his throat), he had been married with nearly two thousand women, most of them dead giving birth to their sons, he had an army of almost twelve thousand men and al of them were their sons.
