Hey guys,
Im pretty new to the CA forums, but Im already astounded by the quality of images and feedback people are presenting here! Ive been watching a lot of MB and CA vids and tutorials lately and I decided it was time to start my own sketchbook :) I have no problem with crits, they are always welcome! Thanks :)

Here are some sketches that Ive been working on over the past few weeks. At the moment, I try to spend about 5-15 mins on silhouettes and maybe the same for some pencilled lineart. Then about 30 mins to 90 mins, on the more rendered sketches in CS 4. Ill be putting up some quick painter sketches too, generally about 20-30 mins each.

Ive been working hard now for the last year and a few months after a 5 year lull of not drawing, but pretty much in isolation. So Id love to get some feedback from people, be it positive or negative! Cheers :)

Wow, really great...

This is awesome and only for 20-30 minutes? :jawdrop:

I really like the first picture, great detail and I like the roughness :D

I'm stalking you from now on, hope you wouldn't mind XDD

Guys thanks so much for your comments, I really appreciate the feedback.

Helaine: Sure stalking me is no problem, Ill be doing stuff for this weeks CHOW, so you can catch me there if you like!..lol Sorry if my original post was misleading, I havent actually put up any of the 20 -30 mins Painter sketches yet. The above images were done quite quickly though, much to my surprise..lol

I try to limit the lineart and rough silhouetting to 5-15 mins each and sometimes I skip the lineart if Im already getting cool ideas from the abstract shapes in the silhouettes.

A good example of my current work flow would be the "Deathly Outcast spirit", the second image in the last picture dump. I spent about 3 mins on a blue marker sketch, then about 5 mins on a a quick lineart version. Next, I did a Marker Silhouette shown above ( 5 -10 mins, but I do a few at this stage to get a few different ideas), threw some lines in with a felt tip pen on one that I liked and finally about an hour in CS4 painting it up. But i like to work organically so often some steps maybe ignored..lol
I guess the both the head studies have about 2hrs work in them: including a quick study, silhouetting and lineart and lastly rendering/painting in photoshop.

In future Ill just post the workflow of each piece with the pics in case people are interested..lol

Bombur: Thanks man, Im doing a lot more of everything at the moment... so i should have many more environments and face studies up soon and hopefully a lot more creatures and full characters etc.

Cheers :)

Irrlaeufer: Thanks, Im not really familiar with Yoji Shinkawa, I just googled him for the first time..lol Obviously I have seen his work Game art before but he is not a big influence on my work. Thank you for the compliment all the same :)
Hmmm, I didn't really learn this style anywhere, it just happened through experimenting with different types of material and media. Cheers :)

Pizza Party: Thanks dude, Im looking forward to posting more here too!

Jatherip: Thanks, I really enjoyed creating those. There will definitely be more. I love the way digital and traditional learning curves can bounced back and forth off one another :) Yeah, I know what you mean on post#11. I study anatomy and perspective as much as i can, but I still find it pretty hard to construct bodies and volumes without linework first. Thanks for the comments and crit! :)

Same goes with these :)
As for the last one, I erased out the character in the bottom
right, it was my favourite part, but sometimes I think it is necessary to protect
our ideas until the right time :)
