CartoonistsWorkshop
October 6th, 2009, 10:37 AM
Hi:
I am pleased to announce that I am coordinating a special workshop with master cartoonist Darwyn Cooke, to be held Saturday, October 17th at the Gladstone Hotel at 1214 Queen West in Toronto.
This is a special opportunity made available by his participation in a show of his work at the Gladstone. It is being put on by The Art Originals Series, a new initiative in bringing comics related exhibitions and programming to the Toronto area.
This is a one day workshop from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, the 17th. It will feature:
10am-11am: One hour lecture with Darwyn discussing his theories on writing, drawing and storytelling in comics. Hear one of the top artists in the business discuss his artistic process and secrets of the trade.
11am-12pm: One hour question period. Ask Darwyn about specific projects he has worked on and the artistic decisions he made to bring them to fruition. Have the opportunity in a private environment to pick the brain of one of the most successful contemporary creators in the medium.
12pm-1pm: Lunch break
1pm-3pm: Portfolio Review: This is probably the scarcest opportunity in this workshop. Darwyn is insanely busy at conventions and barely has time to sign books, let alone review portfolios. He is generally swamped with paying commissions and convention panels.
Take this opportunity to show him a page or two of your work and have him comment on your storytelling abilities and drawing skills. Each person will be provided with approximately 10 minutes of time to have their work critiqued. You would NEVER get this chance at a convention. Plus you will be present to hear Darwyn give constructive criticism to a group of your peers about their work too. You will have a two hour period to watch Darwyn take part in a master critique.
Spaces for this workshop are limited to 15 spots. Each space is $105. and is non-refundable due to the fact there is sure to be a wait list for this event.
