Round #157 Wouldn't Wish It Upon My Worst Enemy!

Topic:
Wouldn't Wish It Upon My Worst Enemy!

Creature Description: Wouldn't Wish It Upon My Worst Enemy-- Think about the person in this world you, personally, like the least. (For whatever reason.) Now, try to imagine/design a new creature that is so horrible, vile, disgusting, putrid, violent, sick, and repulsive you wouldn't wish it upon even your worst enemy. -- And please-- In your description you do NOT want to call out any particular person, ex-spouse, ex-BFF, etc etc etc. I am not interested in seeing ANYONE air their dirty laundry here. It's just a springboard/inspiration to make the exercise personally interesting to you. Also, design something really new and horrid. Don't think to yourself, "Wow. My ex-girlfriend was really afraid of rats. Obviously, Michael wants me to draw a giant rat." No. No, no, no. Design a new creature you wouldn't wish upon your worst enemy.

Deadline:
Sunday October 11th

Finals go here: [URL="http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=171028http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=171028[/URL]

note: The deadline won't be EXACTLY after a week...it can last up to 24 hours more, i am human and have to work also, you know ;)

wow already thinking of some torture beasts! That would be horrifying and cruel forms of torture. Though I'm not going to rush anything. Here's hoping that OCT. 2, 2009 deadline isn't correct...

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

Sketch. Name: Violator.

Its tongue is used to "Impregnate" other creatures with its spawn. Doesn't matter whether they're male or female. Obviously the gestation period causes death as the fetus devours the host from inside.

deadline fixed. Will set up the finals thread later. No one better have a final yet.

Bonedaddycash: Interesting concept. The pose looks sort of demure. Almost like the creature is shy and saying 'don't look at me!' which sort of contradicts the idea of a violator, don't you think?

looks a bit common...would like to know what you guys think. As for the dissolver thingy, it's translucent, so we actually see the victim/prey being flayed, skinned etc alive...uuuugh!

I think I'm gonna go with the bottom one... thoughts?

tommorow-man good choice, I like the bottom one too. love the tail, looks deadly
dwinbotp I like B, maybe you can do both, haha, just kidding ^^

Steve Somers
October 5th, 2009, 09:43 AM
dwinbotP - of the 2, I like the dissolver better since I've seen (and drawn) plenty of head eating monsters over the years. It would be cool to see how you draw someone (or some beast) dissolving it's prey.

tomorrow man - Yup the bottom guy. The pose looks more confrontational and threatening.

I'm thinking of a creature that grapples its prey and disembowels it by slicing into the target's anus.

Lander
October 5th, 2009, 03:20 PM
well isn't this something for Freud. Every ones worst nightmare depicted. (how many words did I invent? Says more about ourselves than our enemies. mongreldesigns I've been there :)

kingkostas
October 5th, 2009, 03:37 PM
Well i came up with a creature with massive jaws that grabs the prey with its legs while paralyzing it for a small time with its tail(there are a couple of spikes there) and then ,it places the prey in the mouth and with a strong bite, torns appart the legs and the arms and keeps the head and the torso :)
So i think the background will be full of legs and arms
I did a small animation just to make the creature thubnail look more vivid
I will work a composition now(maybe one of the frames+ something extra)

mongrel we are close in concept :)

So I thought I'd make this my first C.O.W, since I've got time and the topic is both interesting and rather flexible.

The first idea that came to mind is this; A large slug-like parasitic creature that poisons/drugs (causing nightmarish fever, enhancing senses and generally a lot of pain and suffering) their victim, then enclose them into their womb/"pouch" (Slighly inspired by the kangaroo, if you can believe it :p) for sloooow, agaonizing... Well, digestion isn't the right word.

Thinking more along the lines of the Creature keeping the victim borderline alive via potent chemicals, while linking the two organisms together and utilizing the victims metabolism to sustain itself indefinately. Yeah, I've no idea what I'm talking about, but hey, it's fiction.

Also I've the idea that the "slug" shapes into some aspects from their dominant prey speices. The portrayed specimen is a Maneater (The human element of the design will likely be lessened or abolished as I progress).

Anyways, enough rambling. Here's the initial sketch:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b382/Fifth_knight666/COWSlug-man.jpg

Variant names include Flesh-tomb, Integrator, Gene-shuffler, the simple but fitting Horror, The Krah'Neh Terror Slug, and the sceptic favorite Killer Kangaroo.

dwinbotp: I love your rendering.
You have mad talent.
Your creature this round looks interesting, but really top heavy, especially concerning the liquid sack that is meant to be full of people. I would add more legs, spread them out and lower him closer to the ground. Or else he might tip over and become embarrassed.

audit: I also really envy your painting talent. You have a nice style.
But I would be careful about this creature. Try not to let your personal fears override what might be considered horrible to everyone. This is a creature you wouldn't want anyone to meet, not just yourself.
(just a heads up, as Michael is on a banning streak)
(JOKE JOKE JOKE)

But anyway, here is my crazy critter.
I made one with a tail, and one with a butt. I like the tail better, but the butt seems to fit with the topic a little better. Im stuck.
Oh, and what about the eyes and mouth? I like the open mouth, but can't decide to go with six big creepy eyes, or twenty tiny creepy eyes.

Man, I've missed some really fun looking topics! Hopefully I'll be able to try and finish this one if college and health permits. So far I just have one little thumbnail. I was thinking about a creature that's been bred to be the ultimate organic torture device. The crest looks a bit too much like the alien queen's crest but if I stick with the idea I'll make it more interesting looking. I'm thinking this might be one of those ideas that's better in theory than on paper though :/ what do you guys think?

This is a mad topic! Guys, awesome work so far.
Here are my thumbs, and the choosen one sketched up. Let me introduce the TEABAGGER MONSTER! I hope it's not too explicit. It's half as big as an adult man, and flies. It appears at night when you sleep, and gently lands on your chest. HAHAHA :mod:

this is just one i did possibly a creature that dwells in the water, or river, if u entering the water whilst it is present induces paralysis you then suffocate in the water, and it consumes u whilst your grasping for air, im yet to illustrate the diagram, and still need to touch up on the rendering, fix up line work and stuff if i have time.

psantha creepy one, I love creepy and the name is crazy!

Golden Serpent very nice sketch man! Initial stuff don't count as much since we usually develop the creatures as we go along. I love it being a torture creature, I am fascinated by old school faves such as the rack and iron maiden. Is that just one creature though or a swarm ganging up on the poor soul? would like to see more for sure:)

mongreldesigns Ass Stabber...sounds...painful, even without picking the soap. :D

lege1 Dude, If cows are made of beef, your current spontaneous creation is a Wendy's Triple Decker Classic with all them trimmings! Nice work!!!

Duman Thanks for the tip, i appreciate it:)

knightherald Looks sick! make sure the "human" part doesn't look too human, play with other shapes more, go for it!

kingkostas love the animated thumb, I wish I can make those too:) interesting design, looking forward to more progress, keep it up.

audit Love the colors man! sweet rendering! and I agree, If you don't drown fighting the creature, you'd still have to contend with its jaws, teeth and numerous flailing appendages.

gibbo19 It looks mean, slick render as well. more!:)

Lander are you going through with the slug thingy? I would love to see it though, if not, I'm sure you'll have another nasty back up for us:)

I hope I got everyone, if I missed anyone, I'll check back next time.

what do you think? :)

Lander
October 6th, 2009, 04:33 AM
Bonedaddycash:I'd rotate the far hoof away so that it aligns with the knee.
Maybe make it more dynamic by raising one arm above the head as to strike and make the torso twist to support the action. And the design is cool. Right now it's a bit like a monster line up. Make it live! It looks like it could be fast. But it's lockd to the ground. Some one tell me to shut up!

Bonedaddycash
October 6th, 2009, 04:50 AM
No, those are great idea's Lander. I actually noticed the leg rotation right after posting.

So far I've made the upper body changes, but I'm still working on the legs. I'm not sure if I like the hooves, but I'm having a hard time coming up with something else I like.

Lege1 - You might have my favorite so far. If I saw that thing floating overhead I would shit a brick. What if you put some buildings up in the foreground, so he looks like he's interacting a bit more.

DwinbotP - Coming along nicely. Now let's see the dissolving human!! And on your next creature I challenge you not to use veiny conan muscles.

Golden Serpent - Cool, you've got some time! I like the insectasaur torture pad so far.

Vaghauk - That's a nice puker. The second color one is looking promising. Hope you have time to render that out.

Here's an idea from last night, just trying to channel some demons through the pen. Not really satisfied with it though. So I think I'll bat around a few more concepts after work tonight and commit to something by wednesday.

I like some of the creepiness of the drawing, but it doesn't really communicate a tangible threat yet. Thoughts anyone? Don't be shy, I'm a big girl, I can take it.

Steve Somers
October 6th, 2009, 10:01 AM
oh, and Death By Chris - Really like the light source on that. Doesn't totally look like it's coming out of his butt, but I think it's worse that it tears out his whole lower back. Looking forward to seeing the finish on that....

audit
October 6th, 2009, 10:14 AM
so many disgusting ideas! you guys are sick. and is it my imagination or is there a bit of a rectal theme going on??

steve s - I guess it needs to look like it could deal some damage, like, at the moment it has a sort of insect-meets-bat vibe which is creepy but doesn't seem immediately harmful. I'd be interested to know why you redesigned the facial area?

anyway, update with the tentacles, hue, balance.. I should add a person, probably would help to sell it better.

audit: looking great. what if you darken the neck midway from head to the summit of the bend so that it looks like it's going down and then get s lighter towards the head so it moves more towards us. Or/and maybe show a bit of the neck on the left side of the head so we can se how it connects.

Got inspired by my mother's Staghorn plant out in the backyard. Had been looking at it awhile out the window and always thought it looked like something I'd rather not deal with in creature form.:yayca:

Steve Somers: Thanks for the compliments man and suggestion of the buildings. I am not wanting to distract the chaotic creature design with background elements. I felt that the best scenario for this situation was to keep it simple and portray the creature. It is after all all about the creature. Thanks regardless and keep doing best.

Lander: You give great advice man and although it hasn't applied to me much in this COW I just wanted to thank you for being generous with your wisdom. Nice concept this round, I look forward to it's finish.

Dwinbotp: A triple decker? hahahahahahhahahahaha You;re awesome broski! That compliment was fantastic. Your creature is looking great this run as well. I am really liking your rendering especially on that anatomy. The background is nothing to fuck with either. Love the clouds and rock elements on the ground. Great painterly feel!

October 6th, 2009, 01:32 PM
steve somers : it eats people and then pukes them and eat´s them again and so on - glad you like ! ;) I actually thought showing the two pukers together - to see their behavior better... and show they are an species and not an single charakter like my lava-puker.:(

Your drawing looks really dangerous ! wouldn´t hug this one... !

October 6th, 2009, 01:52 PM
Lege1:Thanks. And here you go. We like symetrical things. If you want to make it scary then make it asymetrical. How huge is your creature. Looks like it's from beyond the skyline and up in the sky ahead of us. Maybe you should make the mounthpart somewhere in the middleground. Also you could make the skyline come more in the way of the far tentacles. Food for thought. You can throw it away. I'm no pro so don't listen to me :)

audit, that looks fantastic. I dislike deep water, something pulling me down is a particular fear.

One point, it's hard to see red in deep water without additional light sources; the long (redder) wavelengths of light don't penetrate as far as the shorter (purple) ones. As it stands, the red details of your nessipus are the most saturated.

Check out color underwater (http://www.deep-six.com/page77.htm).

Steve Somers
October 6th, 2009, 02:37 PM
Audit - yours is just begging for the classic chick in a bikini swimming away... or something to show scale, sunken ship etc. For mine I switched the head because the 4 eyed thing looked more goofy than scary, so I nabbed a head from another sketch. But I'll probably dump that idea anyway.....

vaghauk - thanks, but I think my beast needs an overhaul. Doing both pukers would be cool, but doing one of them to the best of your abilities would be just as cool.
Don't feel too bad about your lava creature, I've had so many rejections over the years I barely even remember them. The main way to get beyond a rejection is to start the next project.

lege1 - nice translation of the plant into creature form. What about seperating the different areas of your creature into seperate layers and playing with the desaturation / focus to help push the immensity of the creature?

Mongreldesigns: Fantastic concept.

DefiledVisions: Haha, yeah crazy monster, what can we do? Looking forward to see your sketches!
Lege1: Man, I laughted loud when I seen your reference. That plant is evil! Godzilla wouldn't have a chance against your monster ;)

@DeathByChris: Great concept (ewwwwwww....)! A few things that might help strengthen and clarify it- Perhaps bend the victim forward more. If the creature really was growing out of his... anus... (shudder) I think it would protrude from lower, by his tailbone. Also, he might be a little more than PO'd. (screaming in unfathomable agony sounds about right) Other than that, I got nothing else to say. I'm looking forward to the story of your creature, I keep wondering how that poor chap got into this predicament...

psantha : hey thanx ,man ! for some reason i´m unable to draw truly scary stuff - i always come up with something half cuty ---- :) your teabagger is also a charme ! ;) crazy idea...teabagger...
carnifex : that´s intimidating 1 like it a lot ! - could give him sharper tooth maybe -
ikdfsdha(or whatever this spells :) : that´s - just awesome ! love it ! like the medieval feeling !
death by chriss : nice upgade - the guy with the knife gives a special shock. I have to say though that your first maggot-like design was even more disgusting .... i just loved the guy sitting helpless and alone with a big maggot hanging from his ass - and some guy in an abc-suit making anotations.don´t know - stroke me more - maybe because it
me gave more room for the imagination --- but hey - that new version is awesome aswell i just think the creature was more disgusting before and it could be enough to see a table with some gruesome cutting instruments in the background or so - -know what i mean ?
ah ! and - i actually like that he is NOT screaming but trying to look back --- to see what´s going on --- ( i wouldn´t do that). It´s a more subtile approach ....
whoa - your painting is delaying my breakfast to later on........... :D

DeathbyChris - that is just...wow. Yea...that's definitely something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Ex-girlfriends, maybe... :)

Only crit I would have at this point is maybe show the guy in pain, or unconscious. The guy looks way to relaxed for having something like that spilling out of his rectum. Maybe some tubes pumping liquids into the creature itself, indicating that it's been sedated. Looks a bit vicious not to be.

Looking forward to the finished piece.

A few concepts/doodles of my monster.

I want the tongue to be a type of lure, originally i was going to use a baby, But i think the female torso would make a better lure. 2 rows of nasty teeth. No eyes, Heat pits instead, i think something like this would creep in the dark. I plan to work some bio luminescence into the "trap". The feet and "toes" of the tongue would work like feelers.

and tentacles, because every nasty monster needs some to grab prey items that try and fee.

lkjhgfdsa - That is one bizarre concept, but I'm sure you'll paint it real nice.... but with a beast like that, do the little dudes really need guns?

dwinbotp - I was laughin the evil laugh when I saw that.. Nice dissolving human! He's like the boy in the bubble, except all melty and dying. Top notch buddy.

scorge - Although your guy is just standing there, not really murdering / dissolving / mutilating any victims, I bet lighting and details could add just as much wickedness - perhaps more frightening because you can't tell how this thing's going to murder you, but you know he wants to. That would be cool to see, but tough to pull off.

Death by Chris - hmmm.. I get what the others are saying about the victim showing the pain, but on the other hand, if handled the right way there's a morbid humor to his indifference. As though he strolled in the Doc's office casually "Say uh, Doc. Got this thing here... I was wonderin if ya might take a look see..."

dwinbotp - i never post, just browse and discus all these great creations many of you come up with week after week, with Lege. This time i just had to say that this is amazing and genius. the way you rendered the man inside the belly is incredible and though painterly your work has a realism that can be felt.

I drew a couple more ideas for this, trying to think not about what I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, but what I WOULD wish on them. Which is hard if you don't really have enemies.

Crazy dogs and monkeys freak me out when they get hyper and start going apeshit, so I thought I'd go that route. Got a busy next few days so hopefully I can give this the time it needs.

Steve Somers: They are both very cool but I think the left is to classic. The right one on the other hand is crazy cool. I'd go for the one on the right who's really having a blast.

Down a different route. I don't like spiders and I think that maggots have a sick color so I'll combine those into this. The larvae was also quite close to my first cow entry and I don't want to do it again. :)

I can't quite make out which side is front on the little guy, and thus am having a hard time picturing how the weight is distributed. Is the end with antenae a false front, or is that really its head?

It's a gas daemon. It's generally unpleasant - you know; eats people, excretes it's victims as gas from it's shoulder sacks.

My notes:

Gorgers start off as small, maggot-like larvae, with a surprisingly strong jumping ability. They bury into the victim's skin, with only the tips of their tails peeking out. Once inside, there's only a narrow window of time (hours to a week) to safely remove one.

Once it settles in against the victim's spine, it wraps its mouth at the base of the skull, clamping its teeth in, and winds the tendril "fingers" around the spinal cord. That, coupled with the back facing spines make it impossible to remove at this stage. Unchecked, it will feed itself and the growing egg sacs in its tail.

First two stages:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/wyna_hiros/Gorger1Wyna.jpg

Eventually it can potentially liquefy the host's interior. At this time it will have completely gorged itself and go into a coma inside the body. It will produce an attractive smell to try and bring in any nearby mammals. Eventually the gorger dies, the egg sacs bursting. Millions of new larva will attempt to launch themselves into any living being nearby.

Last stage:

e) Only 2D art is allowed. No 3D, animation or photography.
Why? It is not possible to compare 2D art with 3D art or other forms. The judgement needs a base to judge on. The base is 2D art with the given topic.

Bralt - I had to go back and look at your again because I wasn't getting it -- NOW I see. Us circumsized dudes don't always recognize our uncut brethren. That's pretty damn horrifying. btw, you made a creature stuck to a lightbulb several COW's back -- one of my favorites of all time.

Evil Sloth - if that's a zbrush thing, I know they have similar forums to this -- or maybe cghub, so you can get some informed feedback.

Vaghauk - Yeah, maybe MJ will. I like scary crazy giant creatures as much as the next fella, but I don't play D&D or 3-d shooter games, or Magic so when something comes up in those worlds I'm like "Huh? A lich what?". I guess it depends on what you want to do with these creatures. I use them in art exhibits so nobody really has an expectation beyond it looking interesting.

Probably pushing my luck on this one. Oh! Hi MJ :) (it's not personal)
So I'm back with the bony legs and a clownface. Will have to have a close up on the face or do a nice cropping of the canvas. Crit anyone?

Steve Somers
October 8th, 2009, 01:04 PM
Lander - Kind of tough to crit at the early stage. The thread thing underneath it is a bit confusing. Something to show scale would help how it reads too (like a victim), but mostly just getting back in there and painting more. Maybe repeat some of the colors and shapes from the clown face on the body?

Lander: Definitely appreciate the crit man. I was definitely into doing something symmetrical this round cause I never do. I thought it would be good practice you know? My creature is fucking huge! LOL hahaha I was thinking of putting the mouth part somewhere in the middle ground actually but decided not. Thanks again man and good luck with your entry =]

Steve Somers: Thanks for your crits as well man. I don’t really know what you mean by separate my creature into separate layers and probably can’t because I painted everything on one layer =/ I played with the saturation and color balance and came to what I did which I am pretty happy with. Thanks for your two cents man.

Scorge: Thanks very much for your compliments man! It means a lot coming from you. I am trying to improve my skills just like everyone else. It’s a lifetime commitment you know? I am like 1 year and a half from 30 and still trucking along here believing in the dream of one day being able to do something with my abilities. Your creature by the way is coming out great. At fist I was a little skeptical but you really followed through. Great work and thanks again dudski!

Dwinbotp: Bro……..for real….are you fucking serious? HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH I LOVE IT! You came nasty with both the rendering and concept on this one. I saw that shit and it gave me those disgusting feelings like the first time I watched the “Faces of Death” movie series, or SAW. Ridiculously sick shit! They should give the sickest COW award to you for this one cause I haven’t seen anything exceed the level of nasty that you got on this time. Rip rock the poll for real!

Bralt: Good to see you back broski! I was just going to say can’t wait to see what you conjure up for this one but then I saw the most recent post. WTF! LOL I have no words for this brizo…………………………except……………..SIKAZFUK!

Psantha: I really like the way you rendered your Teabagger friend. Nice work on that. What’s poppin with that black halo? Dope anim gif too.

Lkhgfdsa: You blow me away with your ability to sit and paint out all these little precision pattern like details that you do on almost all the work that I’ve seen come from you. Very cool man, you must have the patience of an old man for real. I like the colors in this illustration you have going this run and I think the concept is pretty dope. Thank for thanking me for my post by the way. I should probably be a gentleman and return the favor =] Funky creature this week but looking great.

Vaghauk: That is pretty gross no doubt. I could only imagine what it smells like in that cave, lol. Nice work!

Steve Somers: Your creature is lookin awesome. A hyper bundle of fury huh? Nice decapitation action going on there. This would be an awesome Mortal Kombat animality, lol.

Bralt Hannicart: NO. Nothing is meant to look that painful. JUST NO. For shame!
(great rendering, even better idea. Your piece hurts my loins)

FishyBoner: I like the idea, and the mouth of your creature is really interesting. Might I suggest rotting skin/mucus on your creature?

sketchius: Your pit bull from hell is looking good. I would love to have that thing guarding my backyard. Do you have any colors in mind?

Lander: A clown faced killer insect? Well, you have done it. That is something I have never seen before. And hopefully never will again.
(apart from your final, of course)

Steve Somers: You have a cool critter. The torn up body really helps. It's head is also really interesting. I might try to put even more detail into the face, because it's that cool. Oh, and spit/drool would be nice.

Carnifex: I like the idea, so I would really try to stress the evil motives of the beetle. Give him meaner eyes, horrible mandibles, and maybe hair. Insects, for one reason or another, look horrible with fur. And then imagine that inside you. Eating, and very itchy!

Evil_Sloth: Does that plant have motion or heat tracking abilities? Lets hope no one meets that while visiting the "bushes" on a camping trip! And you thought poison ivy was bad.

jigatron: He looks like a pretty mean leech demon. I might try to make that tongue even more obscene.

Vaghauk: Dude, that vomit looks great. If only you could attach smells to these pieces.

scorge: I freaking love the dismembered body. The face especially. It really adds character to the piece.

evolvingeye: Oh man, the hair on it's ass is just too much. TOO MUCH.
I bet some people might describe their ex-girlfriend as something like that.

Wyna: I admire your dedication. That fact that you made a pic for each of it's life cycles is a great feature. Nice stuff.

lkjhgfdsa: You have a really unique creature. Something I would not have thought of in a million years. I might go so far as to put a few more future victims running around in hopeless despair. Despair is fun.

psantha: Your creature looks like it could preform it's task quite aptly. And horrifically. Hooray. Add slime.
(or would that be lube?)

My creature isn't turning out so hot, and not so finished. Been crammed with other work this week, and will be traveling this weekend. I really hope I will be able to get something in, but it is not looking good.

I started out doing some thumbnail paintings just to get some ideas out, but nothing really stuck. After several silly sketches, the main take home was some sort of creature who shot its tongue at something with venom that caused paralysis. The cherry on top was that the creature then allowed its babies to feed on the body. So I wouldn't wish that death, that of being torn to pieces by baby monsters, on anyone...not EVEN my worst enemy.

http://theklaus.com/PICS/COW_157_sketches.jpg

I designed several versions of spider like creatures, but eventually ran with a more reptile like female creature, with pockets that it's babies jump out of covered in fluids and overall nastyness.

http://theklaus.com/PICS/COW157_drawing.jpg

As always, I love critiques. I probably won't do dramatic changes to the POSE (because it's a bit solidified) but feel free to trash it, hehe. Let me know what are your artist eyes out there see!

scorge - that is looking SWEET! the face is perfect, I'd add some bounce light to the body. The pose overall is a bit stiff, with such an intensely disgusting face, I'd expect a more ferocious pose. Also, he is looking a bit humanoid, so you might want to revisit the body in general with a new idea. Don't lost that face it is insanely creepy. Reminds me a bit of Donnie Darko.

Steve Somers - looking forward to seeing more, the roughs are pretty cool looking

Vampire Ninja: Like where your going with that, really digging the composition. Just watch your positioning of the teeth and horns-they're looking a little skewed.

psantha: Like it, the little halo is a nice touch too, perhaps the "head" (or whatever you'd call it) area as well as what I could translate as shoulders could do with just a touch more value variation to describe the form, it looks a touch flatter than the rest of the body.

jigatron: Sweet silhouette!

sketchius: Very cool stance, looks like it could be epic

Bralt Hannicart: Nice render-the action shot is horrific, so far it's the strongest concept for me :P. I hope those red stripes make a reappearance-they looked cool

The putrid Regurgitator - Lord of Vermin wip 4

His stench is so strong that who ever gets to close becomes sick immediatly, and while choking on his own vomit - the Regurgitator grabs him and starts to suckle until the victim is suffocated. Toothless - like an old mans mouth - the regurgitator then uses his strong muscles in his throat to crush the bones and swallow the body down to his stomach only to puke everything out and start the whole thing over again. This regurgitating can go on for some days.....

Vampire Ninja - Very cool drawing(s). If the viewer could see how the babies eat the victim alive it might help communicate the idea without relying on description (as MJ reminded us last COW)

Carnifex - Thanks - yeah, I was looking at some fish gills and thought they'd work on the head. As for the human head, it's mine. I figure I'm my own worst enemy - I guess it is sorta oddly mangled. But now that you mention it, I should throw a spinal column hanging out!!

Lege1 - I felt like a lazy douche on the last COW, don't want to insult my fellow artists with some half-hearted dogshit. Plus I was having a party with adjusment layers in photoshop -YEE HA!! Yeah, crank the Death Metal! I reccomend Meshuggah!

Steve Somers
October 9th, 2009, 02:41 PM
Tomorrow Man - That's a killer rendering. Not sure how you matched up the perspective on the tile with the angle of the body, but something on the left, where his body meets the floor, perspective-wise looks a little out of skew.

Thanks everyone.
Steve Somers- Im really digging your entry this round. evil mutant baboon haha.
Vampire Ninja- Thanks, try and imagine waking up one day and having this attached to your butt.
Dwinbotp- Thanks, gross was definitely part of the objective for me.
lkjhgfdsa- Nice I love the surrealism of your creature.
psantha- Thanks.
Sperling- Thanks for the feedback, yeah I thought about making the victim look more in pain but since hes being operated on hes been given drugs to help him stay calm and its more depressing lookin.
Vaghauk- I love the vomit totally sick. the creature looks like a giant stomach with bad acid reflux, and thanks for feedback on my creature, I really wanted to put this creature in more of a context to help explain its nature. Im gonna try and have a detailed description on how this thing grows.
luvazquez- Thanks for the feedback man, thats a good idea, I think might actually add tubes sticking in the creature it would definitely add to it.
Bralt- Haha nice one, but your urethra creature is no match for my rectal monster :)

heres where mine is so far I think getting close to done, what do you guys think about the chromatic abberation does it help or is it to gimmicky, I wanted to experiment with it to make it seem as if your watching the disection on a moniter, sort of voyeuristic.

Wow, the stuff up in here keeps getting better every time I check back. All of it twisted, horrible and macabre, as it should be.

Bralt Hannicart: That is genuinely frightening and downright disgusting. Bravo!

After seeing all this grotesque splendor, I fear mine is all to generic. Will need to pimp up the horror factor before I do the finishing touches.

Here's the man-eating flesh slug horror in its current state:

Sweet entries everyone... i kinda went off on a different tangent to everyone else. More like a big man eating lizard:P

The Horned Devil Skink located in the wilds of the Tambopata rainforest. Its eggs are rare amongst treasure collectors, due to its shiny gold shin. An explorer or two have risked life and limb in hopes of stealing one. Sadly few have made it back out to civilization. These lizards are foul tempered and have a nasty habit of snacking on

Dwinbotp: Thank you, and it’s just one creature but with lots of arms.

Scorge: Thank you :) yeah, at least it seems to be evolving into something less alienesque in more recent sketches. I’m glad I’m not the only one whose stuff looks a bit reminiscent of alien.

Steve Somers: Thanks, yep I’ve got some time not sure if it’ll be enough to finish, but I hope so. I really like the head on your creature, I think there’s plenty of blood, you could try adding a long strand of drool flying form his mouth. Overall I’d say this looks poll worthy.

Wow, this topic has taken off like wild fire! Well here is what I have done so far, I’ve figured out my creature enough that I can start on a final drawing, now I’ll just have to see whether I can manage a digital picture or if I’m going to have to resort to paper and pencil (not a horrible thing but I like to use COW’s for more practice with photoshop)

Really sick and scary and Woooaaaah entries!!

Cant wait to see the finished sketches!
Great Work everyone!!

I guess it will difficult to vote one of the above cause i like most of them and the one is more scarier than the other. :)

I would however distinguish DeathByChris entry, cause its actually shows a living man who actually lives a living nightmare and fits perfectly on "wouldnt wish to your worst enemy".

From other members i like very much the bug entries and those big nasty love-to-eat creatures who really wish to find a quick death on their fingers before reaching their mouth. Spooky!

Keep posting..!!

Alright gents 'n ladies, let's do this. LET'S DO IT.

Starting from last to first (LIFO!).

Verehin:
Very good colors, dynamic light and shiny fleshy stick on it's tummy. I love the parrot beak and the extra, small legs on the side. Fabulous!

Goldenserpent:
Weird anatomy, very good idea. The thin spike spidery legs make it extra creepy. The whole reminds me of the alien queen from Aliens as you mentioned before!

Rodimus:
Nice lizard with a cool paint scheme. I see you also work with values first and add color later, cool. Not too sure if I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy, I'm a pretty sadistic person.

Nightherald:
The concept could work, slugs are nasty things after all. I think you could benefit from working in grayscales first to lay down your values and add colors later through various layers in various blending modes (overlay, multiply, color burn). Keep posting sketches!

DeathByChris:
Ah yes rectal bugs are icky too. But let's be honest, my critter would rape your critter right in the peepee hole. It does have one I hope? Cool work man...

Tomorrow-man:
Very good painting skills. But as others have pointed out, the floor and the man are on two different planes. He looks skewed. Try flipping your image horizontaly from time to time during painting to help you notice such mistakes. About the creature, it looks like a nasty alien...chihuahua thing. I would however wish it upon my worst enemy, if my worst enemy was Paris Hilton. Ah yes. yes.

Fishyboner:
Very vivid lines and a nice graphic style. I like the creature. There is something I don't get about the bioluminescence on the lure. I think, to trap a man, the breasts and other female goodies will do just fine. In fact, flashy glowing spots on women's skin is a turn off for me. EEW.

Sketchius:
Mmm smooth. Very good and soft values. So what makes this thing so nasty I would not wish it upon my worst enemy?

Steve Somers:
Babboons are frightening, especialy if they rip out peoples guts with those monkey dancing moves. Nice rendering but I'd desaturate the blood just a bit. Perhaps add some white specular lighting on some globs of blood

Vaghauk:
Swallowed whole, left to rot and digest in it's belly and then puked out? Awesome. I love the little maggots surrounding this beast.

Daveneale:
Yikes. That is seriously painful. Torture bugs. Very good concept!

Lander:
Nasty spider thing with a clown mask. It's like what would happen if Pennywise and 'It' would mate and give birth. Is the clown mask something that was crafted for this creature or is it a naturaly grown feature? Either way, it's a good painting.

Vampire Ninja:
I like the idea of some thing popping babies from various cavities in it's body and I think you rendered that really good. I don't feel the dragon creatures look vile and disgusting enough so that I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. I'd wish it upon my worst Pokemon enemy though! You have some nice lines and I really dig the tiny environment and the birds.

Scorge:
Nice brute. The stabbing arms are especialy delish. Rendering is rocksolid, as always.

Carnifex:
Eaten from the inside out is always better but be sure to draw a scene. How much I like to watch clean and clear pictures of creatures, this topic screams for an action scene, or at least show how it works. Cool rendering of the bug for now!

Evil_Sloth's:
I'd love to learn 3D some day so I can't really comment on the quality of the rendering etc. The design looks good though but make sure we really see it's an animal, not a plant! The spine running down is a REALLY good idea to show us it's something more than a mere pretty plant! Goodie.

Jigatron:
Looks demonic, looks evil. I love the black smoke and it's vertical mouth! Nice painting too.

evolvingeye:
lot's of big tits, a big ass and a protruding sack of guts/eggs hanging from it with extra sweating glands on the stretched skin connecting the whole thing together. Mmm. Good stuff.

Wyna:
Ooh. I like lifecycle pictures! cool concept! Very evil. I like the sketching style. Is that digital or did you do make those on textured brown paper? Either way, it's cool.

lkjhgfdsa:
Eew! The creature is awesome! Very unique shapes and an excellent paint again. Not sure why the minions wield guns? Are they aliens? They look like spawns from hell but the weapons don't compliment that. We need an explanation!

Psantha:
Urgh. It looks like a fleshy heart with a penis head so that's freaky! I would have prefered an action piece where we see this thing do it's nasty business. Lovely rendering though!

dwinbotp:
For a professional bum, you sure are drawing a lot! Very cool creature and indeed a disgusting way to die. And you know I like translucent sacks on creatures, so that's also a plus. Excellent paint.

skullbeast:
Hey this looks interesting so far. Make sure to finish it in time! The head is bizarre. The legs seem a little frail to hold such a massive creature upright.

JoshDArtist:
Dune meets Star Wars meets fallus. A tad bit too generic and not something that looks so evil that I would not wish it upon my worst enemy.

Cy-AN:
Nice thumbnails, really good studies but imo, you took the least interesting shape of all! But perhaps after finishing and with a proper explanation of what it does, how it works, it could grow into something really good!

kingkostas:
A tiny thumbnail but already neatly rendered. Really soft values and great shapes!

Lege1:
It looks like an underworld god! A lord of doom! How big is this thing? I see the background but I'm still unsure of the size? Splendid rendering too, dood!

audit:
perhaps it looks messy from up close but the rendering is very solid. Plesiosaurus crossed with a squid. Neat! To add to the submerged, underwater feeling, you could blur the creature a bit in the back and make it blend more with the surrounding colors. Also some bleak speckles of dirt out of focus add to that feeling.

Bonedaddycash:
VERY strong, confident and dynamic lines! be sure to finish it!

gibbo19:
I like the color scheme this thing has. The background does need some work to match the dark shadows on the creature. Looking good so far.

mongreldesigns:
Hey that is a very unique design! It's like an entire scorpion with an extra body and legs. Neat!

Duman:
Reminds me a lot of the brain bug in Starship Troopers. What exactly does it do to it's victims? Keep posting!

I'd like to thank everyone for the nice comments and especialy the tips and suggestions! This here is probably my final entry:

http://www.bralt.be/Ixodes-Urinaria_web.jpg

I would have loved to enter multiple images where I explain the lifecycle and show you how this thing gets from egg to penis dangling bug...but I will certainly explain it in a nice neat text.

DeathByChris: IT just keeps getting better. I Love the atmosphere you've created, insanely eerie. One note, the victims facial expression doesn't look very concerned, I feel he should be much more horrified and hopeless. He looks like he is on a cigarette break. the colors are amazing though, as well as the style.

Bralt: What can I say?.....wow, painful and disturbing! Very Well Rendered

Here is the updated flat for my piece, just outlined the base colors for this piece, I'm going to use much more saturated colors!

Hello all, this is the first time I've decided to enter a contest on CA, I needed something to help me step up my game, and it seems I've found that thing. I only just started last night, so Lord knows if I'll be finished on time, but I figured it's worth a shot anyway. I hope this guy is enough of a creature, and not so much a character. I didn't do any thumbs, just visualized the cruelest being I could think of. The weird bony-faces he sits among are captured souls, each forced into an individual bone, which is connected top the rest. The creature delights in causing pain, and plays them like an instrument. The truly diabolical aspect of it is that each bone is connected to all the rest, so each feels the pain of all the others, and thus they are all tortured in unison.

Everyone's stuff looks great

Vaghauk - I believe yours would be the worst fate of all. Just imagine having all your bones crushed at once, being suffocated, spit up, and slowly digested as a giant, broken pulp... that would suck worse than a spiky thing up the pee-hole, I do declare!
Bralt - I would totally wish that on my worst enemy. a person can live without a penis, and some people get piercings there deliberately.... I think yours is still the most visually cringe-worthy, but the concept behind Vaghauk's image... ooh
Lander - yours may be the prettiest to look at
Fishy Boner - love that style

Deadline is today, poll will be set up hopefully sometime tomorrow. I just turned in a major chunk of work to a client, so I should be pretty free, unless I get revision notes I am not expecting. :)

I'm pleased to see a general uptick in quality this week with the entries thus far submitted. I think the draconian measures of last week was a push in the right direction.

I realize I owe a few folks COW stars and in at least one instance a crit from last week. I hope to get all that housekeeping done tomorrow as well.

Figure you have until about noon, Monday CST USA time to finish up your entries and submit them.

Congratulations, I'm not even male and I squirmed in my seat looking at it. Wonderful job on the coloring)

Pochifux : I'm really getting a kick out of that huge smile. Those claws are a nice touch.
