hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help me here regarding custom patterns in Painter X.
Basically I want to be able to pain in colored pattern I could create out of text shapes. I was bale to capture pattern following the instructions on the help docs. but when I do a look up pattern, all I see is a solid black document although, I could paint patterns using pattern with mask pen. But I want to change the color of the pattern and it wouldn't let me do so. I'm thinking there must be something wrong I'm doin or I'm missing out something.
Anyone who can help me on this one, or direct me to a thread with the same topic? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks heeps.
cheers

Use the pattern chalk instead of the pattern pens. :yayca:

Here is a link (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/david.gell/Pages/Tutorial4.html) to a tutorial and some resources which you may find relevant. It was written quite a while back, but is probably still current with more recent Painter versions. Although there is room for improvement in the Painter Pattern Pen system, they can be very useful. Have you seen how Andrew Jones (Android) uses the Pattern Chalk to great effect?

There seems to be a bug however, going back to at least Painter 7, which doesn't allow us to save custom Rendered method variants with the Method set to Plug-in in the Brush Controls> General section. In this case, the data required to identify the correct plug-in is not correctly written to the variant xml and cached variant files.

Thanks David. I'll check that link. Yes I've been following android's works and vid, he's the one who got me back into painting again, and why I got painter and try his process. His works are totally amazing.
Thanks again. Cheers!

Finally figured out! At first I thought the issue is resolution independent. But the document should simply be collapsed. Didn't need to make a selection marque just hit capture pattern. And in the brush control palette, i just set the "source" under the general tab, to "pattern as opacity". And this is using the pattern chalk.
Thanks guys for giving me the idea.
Cheers to u guys!
