I'll go easy on myself and do Picasso, or just tile a few colored pics and call it a Warhol.

lol, Mrpicassohead is funny. There has to be something wrong with critics who tout a man who's works can be that easily replicated.

Picasso isn't nearly as easy to replicate as, say, Mondraine. Picasso's paintings at least have a unique style and use of color. Mondraine just painted colored boxes. *yawn*

after her failure as an opera singer, she became known as the infamous "madame x" organizing large crime rings and always carring her trusty tommy wherever she went.

I dont mean to rant, but if you put yourself in the position of an aspiring artist then you should learn to appreciate the significance of any form of art. If an artist is famous then chances are it is because their art has significance. Maybe you should read up on Picasso and Mondrian a bit, you might find it will help you to appreciate them more.

I do have respect for Picasso, but only up until he ruined his style with cubism. Blue period was especially good, but I find his newer paintings to be soulless and meaningless.

Don't mean to fuel any fires with this one, but I loved Larson's take on Historical Artists.:D

ChaosEidolon: (Whoa. Didn't mean to push anyone's buttons.) I'd like to respectfully reply that as someone who's been studying art ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil, my many and varied teachers have beat a sizable knowledge of art history into me. That being said, I agree that there can be a point made for Mondraine's *significance* as an artist. I'll also acknowledge that he influenced other artists, but personally I think his work is tedious and boring. Just because I recognize the significance of an artist doesn't mean I have to like that artist's work. I don't think there's anyone who likes all the art ever produced by every artist. But this is just my opinion - I know there are people who love Mondraine and Picasso and probably hate a lot of the artists I like. Que sera sera.

There's some really good ones here today, keep up the good work everyone.
I'm going to go ahead and sit this one out. I did a bunch of reasearch last night when the topic was posted, and after about 10 startovers I decided this wasnt a topic I could really complete a satisfactory(to myself) painting.
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your paintings. And maybe I'll come up with something that fits the thread.

just a quick one. The jesters hat was added to ruin what composition I hadn't already (not to say that I don't like Rembrandt, he ROCKS :)).

Salvador Dali is one of my favorites, so I paid my tribute. Time. We can't escape it.
All done freehand from attached image in Painter, with, unfortunately, a mouse...

This was a great topic. Alas, Rosa Bonheur's great painting "The Horse Fair", reduced to three horses.

This one's very directly based on H.R.Giger's "Necronom IIIa"... one of my favourites of his.
I'm having so much fun on this that I won't at all be able to stop here (at 1.5 hours)... So, I'll be updating if y'all are up for it. :D

Hunger_Artist - Great face, nice choice.
brianl - Wonderful! Reminds me of my dog = Wins my vote.
plaf - Awesome energy! Kickass use of colours and contrast.
Defunct - Nice job - Reminds me of Sir P. McCartney... who's the artist?
brianl - Cool! Dunno whether I'm ok with the heavy bevel and emboss, but otherwise: Cool!
shadoman - Mouse werk, huh? Wow! Funny take on that tired old piece.
Turokess - Outstanding! (I especially love the chocolate coloured steed.)

Mr. Hand... WOW!!! I was going to do Giger too, but I knew that I wouldn't have the time. Plus, as you noticed before, I have only a mouse... too broke for a tablet for a few months — being a "starving artist" and all. I do have to admit, if it makes any difference, that I did not paint the numbers, those were Photoshop.
I do have to say again... wow.
Great work from all!!

davi - Thanks! I suppose I could post a tutorial... I've never actually done one though (despite meaning to on several occassions), so I'm not sure how to best approach it to be most helpful. Luckily I did snap some shots of this along the way, so that'll be good.
shadoman - Thanks! Yeah, I doubt a decent Giger could be done with a mouse :D heh heh. Sorry I don't have an extra one laying around!
eliot - Glad you like - But, please don't self-destruct! :(
