I plan to spend much more time on this one, coloring it in and fleshing out more details. At the moment I have a good outline to work from, what do you think of it...
so far I've only spent 10-12 minutes working on it, drew it in photoshop with my wacom.

Any replies appreciated.

Okay, take the wacom...and toss it in the closet. You won't be needing it for a while. Get a sketchbook and a pencils. Start drawing still lifes, and studing anatomy.

I agree, do not worry about the wacom at all. In fact I'd suggest not using it to sketch at all. At least not for a while. As soon as possible, go out and pick up a book on anatomy for artists. Also, pull out any books or comics or anything with cool art and try to find out what you like about them. Incorperate those ideas into your work. (don't mistake this for copying, the best way to find your style is to try out as many as possible whether they're from you head or a book) And absolutely most important... draw draw draw draw. Draw everything you see and everything you imagine. You'll find that in a short time there will be unexpected progression. Good luck, I can't wait to see where your work will go. Oh! Two more things, pay attention to your composition (where your subjects lie in their format), and don't be affraid to spend a lot of time on a drawing. Many of the drawings and paintings you see on this site take between 6 and 36 hours. Good luck!

:( I can't , I won't give up my wacom. It cost me 100 dollars and I bought it because I spend alot of time animating with Flash...
My mouse work is decent but I knew I couldn't continue drawing with it so I bought the wacom... I haven't had it for more then a month which is why my skills with it are at a loss so to speak.
I will get better... this sketch was one of the best things I have drawn with it so far.
I am far better with pen and pad but there are just so many more tools to use on the computer...
well...
thanks for the replies anyway.
I am going to finish this drawing and then ask what you think.
Be back in a few hours (gotta go to work).

hmmm, thats why i didnt get a wacom, it would get in my way of working on the basics. see i knew that if i started using the computer to draw with or add color to, id be too overwhelmed and be neglecting my basic penciling skills.
"I am far better with pen and pad but there are just so many more tools to use on the computer..."
so what if there is more? id like to see some of your pen and pad stuff. as i said earlier, mroe tools just gets me overwhelmed.
btw you dont need to give up your wacom, just do half and half or whatever ratio you want. but IMO i want to know how to draw soemthing on paper before i move on to working or drawing it on computer.
goodluck:)

I realize there is no improving this sketch so I will start a new one... right now I am working on a tree gnome which I will post later on,
I am adamant that my work with the wacom will improve, and eventually I will be drawing in photoshop with the same skill as I would with a pen.
There is no difference between the mediums, I just have more patience and fluidity with the pen.
Thanks for the support, I don't have a scanner and it would be a great loss to ignore this drawing pad instead of develop my skills... things will pick up, I am improving daily.
