Starting a sketchbook finally. Hopefully I can update it at least once a week. I have some stuff that I am scanning it, but it is taking longer than I thought, so there may be a big load dropped off soon. When I say big that means like 5 pictures or something. I am going to try to start a comic but I feel I need to get certain things done first. Like up my drawing skills. Also I am trying to get into 3d a little bit so I will be posting some concepts that I have.
Here's a little OC I did while waiting for anyone to show up and sketch with me. No one did.

Okay. Here is some more.
This one is done in Col-Erase Blue and Ink. I just got the ink and tried it out on my roll of butcher paper.

This one I am working on for my sister's birthday party. She wants it to be a masquerade party. This is the first image I have done completely in Photoshop so the colors and everything are expected to be sub-par. I am still working on this so any comments welcome. I don't have much time but this only took me 44 minutes or so.

I just got a Tablet PC. This is one of my first sketches. It's amazing how different sketching is on a screen. It's like drawing on glass.

I've been using pose maniacs and trying to practice anatomy. I'm trying for a dynamic lunge and I'm having trouble with the left leg, Also, I have a spot to use this for my comic, but it wouldit leave me any room for an opponent in the shot. Or at least A facial expression.

This is the final. I may work on it some more a later date, but this is what my sister will have to use for her invites. I got the font off of a free font site. This font site. (http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/calligraphy-fonts.htm) The title of the font was Aquiline.

I like the composition in the Masquerade Ball image. I think a wider value range (darker shadows, lighter highlights, more inbetween) would make her "pop" a little more, especially in the face and the mask.
Cool gestures and studies. Isn't Posemaniacs great? I just found out about it two days ago and am loving the timed gesture feature. :)

Thanks Teowli. I will probably go back to the masquerade image later. For now I have a sketch I did at the car wash. It's somewhat a self portrait.

Okay. It's been almost a week and I haven't had much time to practice, but I found a copy of Andrew Loomis online and started reading it today. This is a portrait of my brother. Most of it is from memory. The nose, well I made him stand by me for a bit on That part. I don't know why the gif's come out so pixilated. The Second is a png of were I am at.

Okay. I finally purchased Sketchbook Pro 2010. It's wonderful. I just found out yen can have textured brushes. I'd feel like an idiot, but I'm having too much fun. I have two or three images to post, but only one right non. Anyone Know if you can lock transparency on layers?

I need some help. This is the first page of the prologue for my comic graphic novel. I really need help. To me this is ugly and I'm working on it. I specifically need help with composition and angles. I will be adding dialogngue/text later. But the main thing that happens on this page is a wrestling tournament. The main character sees his girlfriend holding hands with another guy. He goes home and sees the message machine.

hey man, you asked me to drop by so here I am.
yep, sketchbook pro is amazing, keep playing and finding yourself, find your brush.
For your comic book, keep a few things in mind when doing your breakdowns, primarily you have to tell the story without confusing the reader. Simple things like ensuring the character who is speaking first in a panel is on the left. Remember close-ups can focus, remember your camera angles are as important as the action in the panel both from a narrative point of view and to grab the reader. Of course, breaking with these rules can create an equally dynamic narrative.
You know in your head what is happening but will a stranger know who picks it up..?
Okay, keep plugging away at you draughting, comics are all about drawing, draw, observe, copy, draw, reference, draw.
Repeat.
You have a style I can see that, focus on what you want to show with your style, but underneath you must strive to be be the best draughter you can be.
keep it up!

great dragon sketch, nice amount of personality in the face.
to take it to a more finished sketch? Yeah maybe, I normally tidy up a sketch, they certainly don't look as neat as the final pieces. The tidy up is there to add details and ensure the form stands up, I don't want to have to rework too much at the 'inking' stage (though that will always happen).
If you feel there's enough information in a sketch to take it to the next stage then cool, whether that's to ink of paint, everyones has their own approach.
For inking, I drop down the oppacity of the sketch layer and then create an inking layer above that. I normally sketch in a different colour from the ink also, this helps to differentiate between the two layers.

Tightening up the sketch as suggested. Will keep working on it. Let me know if anything is blaring. I think I need to work on the tail.

Hey there, Thanks for visiting my thread. From what I can see it seems like you are very comfortable with more cartoon like characters. Some of your blurry painting are hard to look at because I feel like my eyes are out of focus. I'd try using a solid brush edge but with the pressure affecting the opacity instead of using a blurry brush. Just my opinion though.
As far as the comic goes, just start sketching your scenes over and over. Try it a few different ways and then cut and paste what you like and don't like. Creating compositions are the same as anatomy. The more you sketch them the better and faster you get at it. Try not to obsess over one little thumbnail that you like. Draw it again and see if you can get it better.
Don't know if any of that helps. You have a great start to a thread. I'm looking forward to seeing more comic stuff too.

I've been sick for the past few weeks and I was taking a class on Solidworks for my work, so I've been very busy. I finally had a chance to sketch some more last night. Thanks for the replies.

Hi there, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook.
I notice right away that some of these head drawings look a little flat. I think it might help to emphasize the planes a bit more so as to make them look more 3D. Take a look at some of Michael Mentler's head drawings here at Conceptart to see some excellent examples of how to go about doing this. I also think that subtly indicating the Sternocleidomastoid muscles in the neck can help add some anatomical correctness. I know that realism is not what you're going for, it's just that in my opinion a neck just doesn't look right without them. Even in animated features both western or eastern, the muscle is usually visible (depending on how stylized it is of course).
I hope that helps you out in some way, I'm no master of head drawing either as you noticed. :) Good luck with your work!

Thanks for the tip. I will look at his stuff. Un-surprisingly I did not know what the Sternomastoid was. I looked it up in an anatomy book. Wow, I must be missing a lot if I missed something that big. I will try to pay more attention to the muscle and face planes. Thanks.
