Ahh... I'm not really into MMORPGs... But if I'm gonna play one it'll probably be this one.
I'd much prefer it if they had more traditional FF characters though. Like Black Mages in blue coats and pointy hats :)

Wasn't FF11 enough? (You'll probably hate me for saying that.)

Same here, although I did enjoy FFXII's system quite a bit.

This high fantasy stuff is awesome, but would anyone else love to see a return to the feel of FF7? That gritty, dystopia atmosphere was sick.

Yeah, I really miss what Final Fantasy VII did. I was expecting a creative development from that ever since then, and been disappointed by each subsequent instalment. (Not that I haven't enjoyed or found them beautiful, just disappointing) The series keeps reverting back to it's roots, which is great when things get too convoluted, but there feels very little progress.
Problem is the spin-off of FFVII was completely the wrong direction for the studio to go into, it's just milking what they've already made rather than trying to better themselves.
There's so much they could do. I remeber watching Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe, and one of the commentators said the only way game's plot's will ever be good through proper research. And that's what's needed, they really need to stop and think how the next development will push the bar, rather than just covering the same romantically wispy story of androgynous heroes in different settings.

Unfortunately, they probably won't do it. If the "same romantically wispy story of androgynous heroes in different settings" sell (especially in Japan), they'll always go for the same archetypal plot. A lot of plots that stray from the norm either sell poorly (Vagrant Story) and get a cult following in Europe and the US or simply tank (reason why Front Mission 5 will never see Western shores - sold too little in the US).
If milking the pretty boys and romantic dalliances will bring in the bucks with the yaoi fangirls and the big swords and black-leathered guys bring in rabid fanboys, S-E will never seek change. Look at what happened to FFXII due to its lack of everything that a Nomura-helmed game typically has: no teenage romantic love triangle, exaggerated emo angst, stereotypical characters (Penelo is far from Rikku in characterization), and a lot of political nuances. Mixed reviews across the board. Why would S-E dare to change after that?

I think FFXII was one of the best games since FF6. To me both of those have the most wonderfully realized worlds, and there's already so much back story to 12's universe. 7 was fun but I havn't touched it since I beat it.

I'll stick with FF3 on the DS, nice mix between story and gameplay.

I really love Final Fantasy a lot but I never got a chance to play FFXI so perhaps I will play this one. I just don't know if I have enough time to play online games or not.

Nice trailer O_O
I wonder when will it come out, since FF13 is coming out soon.
Surely they dont want their sales to clash? :)
