Hi guys,

I'm a 2D animation student working on my portfolio for the gaming industry. I'm wondering what sort of drawings and paintings I should include if I want to work as a conceptual artist. Do I include character rotations? Several character poses? Are these ideas even irrelevant to the industry? All I know is design for classical animation.

I browsed through the threads here and I read tegehel's posts on finding work in the game industry(which were very, very helpful. Thanks!), but I could use some more information on the ABC's of portfolios. Could anyone share some tips?

Show the best 3-4 of each of your nouns;

Person
Place
Things

leaving the option for asking for more. Actually, you want your portfolio pieces to be soooo good, and in small quantity so they do ask for more. Then you got them hooked. A number of clients ahve mentioned, they don't want to see sketches (unless requested). But a transition is good. Start, middle, end product. Especially if you ahve yourself or another artist (credited properly) to create 3D images of your designs, this helps promote the fact your dsigns translate into functionality.

Thanks for your reply, Wacom Knight. It couldn't have come at a better time. I have another question. Should I be coloring them all? I'm going to get working on it and I'll be sure to start posting some work.

And if anyone else has any suggestions please feel free to share them.

Thanks in advance!
