I am taking an honors English course at my school. Usually, I do just fine, but in this specific occasion, were supposed to write a narrative that describes specific events leading up to becoming literate in a specific category. Naturally, I chose becoming literate in the creative art process.

I struggle with memory, and I'm an artist and love what I do, but writing a narrative is almost impossible for me. Its due tomorrow and its got to be 3 pages. I've been struggling with it for days and haven't even known really where to start. Now, there's no more waiting, its do or die.

So, basically, I need to fill out this outline about how I became literate in art:

1) Opening line (I can do this just fine, as soon as I know what the hell I'm writing about)

2) The conflicts you overcome throughout the narrative - essentially the subject of this piece. (And where I NEED THE MOST HELP)

3) The point of my narrative, why should my teacher care?

and its going to have paragraphs and show progression, so any ideas from very intelligent artists who may remember their own experiences is what I need. My teacher doesn't know me that well, so she'll never care if some of it is... inspired ( :lounge: )

So, anyways, thanks for the help in advance.

Good luck on your paper. But please don't waste time looking here for answers as it is generally the unwritten policy that those who come here looking for help with their homework are told that it is good training that artists learn to think for themselves and solve their own creative problems.

With all due respect, the assignment will do you no good if you don't overcome obstacles on your own.

What do you think artistic literacy is? If you don't know or aren't sure, have you tried looking at resources like Google (http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en) or Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org/)? Look up some art as well as discussions about art and see if that helps you determine what artistic literacy is.

"The conflicts you've overcome" should be awful easy. That's what you're doing right now. Discuss what difficulties you've encountered and overcome both in your life with art and in this very assignment.

Finally, why do you think artistic literacy is important? Why should your teacher care about it? Why should you care about it?

Just try to do the assignment honestly, don't worry too much about mucking it up. Worst case scenario is you bomb your paper and forget about it later in your life.

Edit responding to what Kev Ferrara said: Yeah. It usually goes something like this: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2036315&highlight=do+my+homework#post2036315

Thanks. I didn't mean to break any rules and get help with homework. I think I'd do fine just talking about art, but this was a narrative.... and I have the memory capacity of a goldfish for remember specific memories from my own life.

Well, if your teacher doesn't know you well enough to figure out you've taken someone else's experiences then I don't see what's keeping you from "designing" some of your own memories.

So long as you can still answer what artistic literacy is, why someone should care about it, and provide relevant experiences... then it shouldn't matter much if those experiences are somewhat contrived.

I don't know... I don't know how to write an experience because as far as I can remember, I haven't had any. Maybe its the way I am made, but I've always felt lacking in past.

Well, you have had experiences and even if you have problems remembering them you should be able to write one up based on what feelings you get about the subject. Even if you cannot do that, you can make it up entirely.

If you're still having issues, talk to your teacher about it. I doubt it'll get you a score on this assignment, but you'll probably fare better on future assignments.

Good luck.
