Hi,
This is my first post after a long time of just watching
i didn't know how to start, so i decided to make a sketchbook.
Currently im a game design student from germany and 21 years old
(excuse my english if it isnt always correct)

I love spiderman, its the only hero which does not look retarded in some strange poses, so theres my quick sketch.

Really cool stuff! Im really digging the masks in your latest pose, are they from imagination or observation?
Eludor
December 19th, 2009, 02:21 AM
they are from imagination, but you know how it is, you've always get some influence from everywhere

Good start to your SB keep studying the anatomy and keep posting!

Sry for beeing lazy at tidying up the paper.
Hope those two are readable
Made those without any idea, just started drawing, but i like them - hope you too.
Some comments would be nice.

I like the drawing in the first page of your real sketchbook! It's very natural, but maybe needs some stronger contrast. :)
The last two are very good, I like how you shaded them.
You may try to work on faces, you're good with monsters' but the human ones are not really convincing.
Keep it up! :)

The spiderman and the gunslinger body expression is awesome, dude. Keep up the anatomy studies!

Some of the monsters in the first post have teeth so long I can't believe they would be capable of closing their own mouths.
Eludor
January 4th, 2010, 03:20 PM
Saska: Hey thanks. Well i work on the faces as you can see below.*draw draw draw*
Loserbrain: Thanks, such a nice comment.
Trexmaster: Well, thats on purpose, just trying some things from time to time. I kinda like the look of them.
Some new sketches. Think the female is a bit wrong but thats ok in a sketch like that.
Saska Ithiur
January 4th, 2010, 03:59 PM
Good sketches! :)
The girl maybe has the nose a bit crooked, there's something wrong with her nostrils. Also try to add more realism to the eyes, a smaller pupil for example will give her a less static expression!
Keep it up, you're going great! :)

Saska: Hey thanks for the tips, and nice to see you again in my sketchbook :)
Heres a character im working on for my school and classtest.
Its a splitted character, at day hes a salesman, at night an assassin.
I tried to get the feeling of a medivel assassin like in Aragorn in lotr or some rogues from D&D or the german DSA.
He also should remind of the reaper with some skeleton forms and a scythe like sword
We have to model our character in 3D and make a little animated movie of his basic moves. Ill think i post the finished project with scribbles and everything else when its done (think the deadline was 5th february or something like that).
I could also post the character describtion and story but its in german, and i dont think you would understand it.... well most of you.
Enjoy the first rough sketch of his undetailed appearence.
Eludor
January 10th, 2010, 10:59 AM
now heres something funny, wanted to test how much the character sees, so i made a quick prototype and looked stupid, but its all for the sake of my work so its ok, hope you've got something to smile.
Eludor
January 11th, 2010, 08:17 AM
i think thats how he'll looks like, but im not completly satisfied with his look.
hes kinda stretched and too less comic. going to tweak him to a warcraft 3 style. bigger hands and feet, smaller arms and legs.

January 11th, 2010, 10:47 AM
That character is looking really nice.
Well in general I think you should try to work more on gesture, and structure.
Eludor
January 12th, 2010, 10:21 AM
Andres: i'll try my best and working on it, thanks.
Heres a new "final" version.
and the logo of his guild. Heads looking at the hand of death, the balance and the blade, with the 3 spikes.
the spikes are the signal for this guild, he got them on his mask and sword - well its something like a code.

Finished the mesh of my character today.
I dont like modelling but as game design student i have to do it.
It looks ok, but isn't anything great or special.
The mesh has 2491 polys (with sword and dagger; we had a limit of 8k)
Its made with 3DSMax (maybe thats why i dont like modelling, Zbrush really looks interesting).
And im currently working at the textures...what a pain...

cool sketchbook! there's quite some variety in terms of quality here, from not-so-hot to really well drawn, not sure where that's comin from - hope you don't mind my sayin so.
I'd definitely recommend doing a lot more studies and life drawing, that'll sort out some anatomy/proportion/perspective/balance issues. and have a look at drawing volumes, andrew loomis and burne hogarth have great stuff on the topic.
other than that, keep it up! you certainly enjoy drawing, and the more you draw the better you'll get!

Hey, thanks for your comments.
NeonDuck: im not allowed to draw my own style most of the time, there are always people forcing me to draw photorealistic. Sure, i have to learn it someday.

Great sketchbook so far, a lot of thematic variety. Congrats! Your pencil sketches have a lot of gestural boldness and your choice of poses is strong. Look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Keep posting!

Hey,
you're on the right path.
Try to make more anatomy sketches (from books/life) that way it will be easier for you to even make your imaginary characters more life like.
Draw more hands, feet, fingers all other lil parts of the body- it's really boring sometimes but it will definitely help you to get better, i see saw really awesome artist that can't draw a proper hand.
Try drawing from life and not just people, try drawing more buildings cars, trees and etc. so you could understand more how all the stuff around you is built and how to combine it all in a painting/drawing.
Most important of all, keep drawing and practicing.
Alex.

I like it, but I think the green light still doesn't stand out to me. Since that is the focus of the image, as to make the viewer wonder what it is I think you should focus more on it. Perhaps make it even brighter from the center, and also ad a white highlight to the edge of the floating surfaces the green light is reflecting onto, otherwise it seems more like the shapes are themselves green ad not so much the ambient light.
I think...
Good work!

Hey j09,
if you keep drawing you'll be better than i am :P
though question since my school is very new and their system needs to be polished.
I'ts just Game Design in general. But i've got a spezialisation in Conceptart. (meant in this school, i just had more time to draw :D and 2 projekts to do). My red Planetthing is one of them.

thanks eludor yeah i consider myself to be a pretty good drawer (not trying to brag) but i need ALOT of practice because i spend too much time trying to draw and I erase alot so need to practice practice practice. I also need to start working on still life images and human anatomy.
I bought a wacom tablet like more then a month ago and today i actually decided to open it and started using it. It was not as easy as I expected it to be. Sometimes it doesn't move like I want it to. I just need to get used to it. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get used to a wacom intuos tablet?
i figured it was something to do with gaming because you mentioned that you had to do creatures and create a world lol but from the looks of it you're doing very good

sage: there isn't much of a variation, its mainly the same purple with a bit of blue in the light spots
Yeah, I liked your limited palette there.
I think you would improve more if you drew "through the form" some more. Like the big muscly guy with claws on the last page... his left leg looks disconnected from the body.
You render very nicely, however.
Eludor
July 5th, 2011, 11:27 AM
Drawing through the form? thought im doing this :D. Maybe i should consider to give this more attention.

I think you jumped into detailing too early with this.
The basic values should have been more refined before you colored it because it's looking a little flat. The uniform white hair doesn't help.
Your environments are looking really good! I like the loose yet refined linework.
On a general note, don't get too obsessed with details. A detailed mediocre painting will still be a mediocre painting. You can appreciate all the work that went into it but you should always be more concerned with the overall look rather than tiny details that you can only see in a close-ups.
Keep up the good work!

Hey Xelar,
thanks for the advice, you may be right.
But values are a general problem of mine, I don't dare to go too much in the darks or lights, to avoid an eyestraining look. Too early detailing? yeah, I am not as loose as I wish to be.
I'll keep in mind what you said for the next piece, it's a bit too late for the ape :/.

Didn't know exactly what I was aiming for, just another female training and something with a scythe.

some fast sketches from work
what do you do if your pencil stops working? asking a cooworker for a biro - you know, for writing ;)
The digital head was a test how my "generic head" looks like.
Well, he's a bit big I think and young.

Another episode of "Analog Sketchbook"
Yarp, I'm a bit lazy cleaning the linework from the sketchbookpagetexture, but it gives a nice background, even with other sketches looking through.
