Great colour so far, the airbrush is a perfect tool for rendering plastic, metallic type surfaces.
Finish of the back legs (create some more depth) and you've got a great image.
Interesting creation there too.

Where is Auckland in relation to Wellington NZ?

Wellington is near the bottom of the North Island of New Zealand and Auckland is near the centre of the North Island.
About a 8 hour drive in a car.
PS - And most of New Zealand hates Aucklanders, and it's fairly easy to understand, most of them (us) are rude pricks.

I use painter 7..so I'd like to know, is there a real big difference between 7 and 8?

The main difference is the interface. Most of the tools act and respond the same. Some of the brush libraries are better, but some aren't. The biggest difference is in the brush editor, it totally separates you from the action, which I dont like personally. I still use 7 when I'm in a hurry.

I like the tail end alot, it's very designerly (is that a word)
the colors are great as well. Unfortunately I think you lose alot of energy as you move up the figure.
can't wait to see more

Yes 'designerly' is a word, i abuse it all the time...DOH!
Then again, there's inevitably designers with the last name 'lee', which would make them...uh, yeah.
I get the comment about the figure losing strength, but I just rationalized that as the thing was running around, the back would stiffen up, as would the suit & muscles in areas. I am sometimes bored by muscles that are constantly flexed beyond thier limit *makes grunting noise* HRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
But seriously, do an overlay and make it mo-betta!

btw, what is a skaneateles?

ha,
skaneateles is the town where I presently work- it's full of boring white people who pretend that there rich. On the plus side it has the most design firms percapita than any where in the world. I'm currenty with brownlie - in a few months who knows- I am just about to wrap up my portfolio (maybe tonight) and I'll be looking for greener pastures (hopping nyc)
ps, never rationalize your work to yourself, chances are if you have to rationalize somethings wrong. Keep pushing.

great coloring technique......not too excited about hte pose though.....despite the technical subject...try more dynamic poses or angles to bring the figure more to life.

Truth be told, I was doing a side view profile for the beginnings of a production phase, thus the boring perspective. I did do some early worms eye stuff where this thing looked totally massive, but you couldn't read the form, et al.

this has that crisp, clean studiopaint feel. i would have never guessed that it was painter for the color. was it also painter for the lines or did u do it analog?

Ah, a veteran studiopaint guy I can tell! Truthfully, i had been working on Studiopaint 9.x for about 3 years before I ever got into Painter, which was the basis for alot of my technique (not that it's anything to brag about...)
Yeah, I do all my lines with painter now, including anything that is fully painted or rendered out in PS7. Painter seems to be the best 'inexpensive' linework tool. My only complaint about abandoning Studiopaint/Studiotools is also abandoning the 'curve-snap' tool (ctrl key). I LOVE the ability to trace 'sweeps' along a vector using any brush. This is one of the additions/suggestions I have made to the alpha team at Corel/Metacreations for Painter 9.
