Hi!

I recently discovered Michael Kormacks art and read in another forum that he's using 3D Software. My reasearch on the internet brought nothing - no tutorial, no WIP, no nothing.

Does anybody know how he works? I guess he's using photographs and software, but how, which, what? If anybody knows more...

Thanks in advance

judging from the guys website it looks like its all digital painting in photoshop. In his info page it says that he paints digitally. He probably just used photos as references. He is extremely skilled and his work is extremely realistic but it doesn't look 3D generated.

I wouldn't be surprised if he uses a little 3d to help himself with the architecture/perspective, but most of it looks painted by hand.

I'm fairly certain that Michael uses photos as a base, and then digitally paints over them.
(at least for his current work)
If he does make use of 3D software, it's likely just for architectural elements.
Really talented guy.
His covers continually make me jealous.

Edit:
Took another look...
He is using 3D here and there for robots and monsters too.

Yes indeed. He has incredible talent and incredible skills, all together in one person.

Thanks for having a look!

i really like his work. after i took a closer look i recognized that he also uses poser figures for paintovers (mainly recognizable in his older works, the new ones are well integrated), 3d elements and photoelements. i do not know if he shoots the photos of his character's faces himself, uses stock photography or models.

i would love to see a tutorial by him sometimes, but i think that won't happen, with all those 'do-everything-out-of-your-head'-groupies and the resulting witch hunts.

like i said, i like his work and it inspired me to take a closer look to the daz3d figures and their possibilities as a supporting tool...and i did not regret it, using those techniques now for myself (but , right now, not as good as Michael does :) )

just my 2 cents

Ah there are gazillions of illustrators that show how they use photo ref and 3D models in their work and nobody is complaining.

But the thing is: there isn't even an interview on the web with him. All I find on Google are some of his covers - nothing else. This man is a miracle in several ways. :O

Maybe I should check my Google Fu?!
