Finally finished my first animation project! I drew all the assets in Photoshop and animated with After Effects. It took about three months from inception to completion. That's probably longer than it should have taken, but I had to figure out AE.

It's available streaming here:

or

and available for direct download from my site at 480p and 720p.

I look forward to some good feedback, and thank you for watching!

That was great fun. I love the feel and style and the cute little story. Alot of work has gone into this and it pays off. I do have a couple of crits though... the text, although part of the whole thing is distracting a bit. You spend time reading it and missing what else is going on. I personally think narration would have worked better. It would allow the viewer to take in more of the scene. A deep throaty Brian Blessed sort of voice, overacting! Perhaps the animation takes second place to the story as well, when it should be the animation telling the story... However I watched it twice and enjoyed it, particularly the moon springing up. Well done!

Thanks, Posh. That was definitely a concern when I was editing it. I had to check each part twice to judge the timing of the text and then to check the animation itself. I believe my next effort will be entirely text-free. I really appreciate the input and I'm glad you liked it.

I really got a kick out of this! It kind of reminded me of the Monkey Island games. For me, the text went by too fast. I wanted to watch what was happening so I kept missing the narration. But I really really liked the title effects at the beginning.

I feel the visual storytelling would be helped if the kraken visibly changed somehow before attacking the port, maybe even just a subtle shift of expression... his eyes becoming more sinister or something.

I look forward to seeing more stuff from you!

I liked the Directors Cut too, I think the origin they did really well, the only thing Id like to see done differently is not cramming so much into the first movie and maybe a less funny Bullseye.

This was really nicely done.

I love that you had the kraken run off to devour the city while the credits start rolling. That was great.

I agree somewhat about the text, though the way you have done it feels pretty solid. I would consider the possibility of finding someone interested in doing a voice-over. The text might even still fit as a graphical element, but if it was read it might help the audience to be able to focus on the animation.

Some voice-over for the kraken chortling seems like it could be pretty fun too.

Aside from that, the only other thing that jumped at me was the 3d space in the beginning shot. The lack of a background made it feel kind of sparse. I liked the big crane action you had to bring it into the title, just felt like their could've been something more going on in the empty space.
