Hi -

I've recently been thinking seriously about doing an art degree, but I don't really know where to start. Aside from an art class I took in high school (I'm now 23), I haven't done much else art-wise aside from drawing in my spare time. I don't know the first thing about art schools expect from a successful student's admission portfolio, so I'd like to do a portfolio development course that'd let me explore various facets of art like graphic design, illustration, and animation to see what I like best, and in the end also have a portfolio I could apply to art schools.

So are there actual courses like this in eastern Canada? And would I be spreading myself too thin if I did a course like that where I tried out so many things in the span of a year? Would it be better if I did something like the Art Fundamentals course at Sheridan College? But would I then risk coming out of the program with no clearer idea about what I'd like to specialize in??

BTW, I'm originally from Vancouver, but I'm so tired of the place, I figure if I have to stay in Canada to save on tuition, I'd rather study on the east coast. One of my goals is to go to an art school in the states, eventually.

Any advice and thoughts, please? Thanks in advance!
