Hmm, if you are planning on starting your own company and comic and becoming famous out of school...well... that is really risky! (and you don't need a degree for any of that, you could try to do that right now).

Having big goals is good, but you have to walk before you try to run (along with having to pay the bills). Breaking into the industry (low level job) is normally the first step (and safest / most secure) ... and then you move your way up while learning the industry and making connections (working on your own projects if you can)... then, once you get a name and have sold something, you can split off and do your own thing.

It's not the only way to do something... but it is the most secure and I guess practical? Everyone wants to make it big, but there are bills to pay until that happens :P

Well my goal is both to help a renaissance in the comic industry (met a lot of inspiring cartoonists with a similar goal) since right now its not doing good at all... and I want to do animation since that's what drew me to art in the first place (currently self teaching myself that... if I changed majors at school from cartooning to animation, they would hold me a year back and I dont wanna). You are right though, I dont remember where but I read of how some newcomers who already want to press their ideas can be arrogant, and when their bark is louder than their bite, they never really reach their dream.

"10. Art school recruiters will say anything they think you want to hear in order to get you to go."

oh the hypocrisy.

as much as I'm grateful to Massive Black for this forum, I loath all the ass kissing and favoritism going on here. step outside the box...

Insult 1. People may also agree with Manley due to personal experience in the industry. Like I said I don't care if you decided to direct that insult at me, but I do care that you are insulting other members with that assumption and backhanded insult.

But... srry for judging, from this post alone... you just come off as Lazy and unwilling to challenge yourself. You want to trace things that would just take you seconds to sketch out... if tracing is a "learning tool" (I chuckled) then its one for the incapable.

Insult 2. That I really believe you owe an apology for the most.

1.What other members? If anyone takes offense to that, that just means they think they fit the criteria. Not that there's anything to apologize for, since it's true... there is favoritism, and when I first joined I was guilty of it. I still admire what they've done, it just didnt take me as long to realize they aren't gods.

2. notice the apology already inside that comment? I apologized for what I was about to say, and just stated my observation bluntly. I'd rather be honest than beat around the bush.

Anyway if someone was offended, they should tell me, not you. You arent the care police.

You're right, it's gone on enough.

Closed. See this is what a "Care police" does when you derail the thread enough.
