I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to WIP shots, such as this one (this is bumskees, from his wonderful painting in photoshop thread)
http://www.minart.net/temp/apple1.jpg
http://www.minart.net/temp/apple2.jpg
http://www.minart.net/temp/apple3.jpg
http://www.minart.net/temp/apple5.jpg
I think it is really helpful to see steps like this, and it would be great to see how different people work with different media.
Thanks!

I basically showed my process for a recent piece here, in my blog: http://yumekistudios.blogspot.com/2009/09/in-last-year-or-so-ive-started-habit-of.html

But don't we have an entire forum here for that now?
CRITIQUE CENTER & W.I.P. SHOWCASE (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=59)
I too love looking at WIPs, but I think it might be a bit confusing having an extra thread here as well as the forum. Besides, most people have these in their SBs :)

I just thought it would be a good place to show finished projects with all of the WIP shots instead of searching for the in people sketchbook, like a little archive?

And I like the second - the worked out - drawing of the battle best.
You can see a lot of detail there which disappears ofter coloring - especially the area with the legs. But all in all a great work.
To the topic: I love to see WIP as an animated .gif - is there anyone who can post his or hers?
But actually isnīt it a "step-by-step" rather than a WIP? My understanding is, that even one picture can be a WIP. (?)

A little gif followed by the end result. The original pencil sketch was drawn from photoref and then was painted in Potatoshop from imagination.

A quick Cornwell study I did recently, just painting straight over an initial sketch. Tried to limit myself to 90 minutes but it look more like 2 1/2 hrs.

hi, new here,
great work everyone,
so many different approaches here, great to see ..
hereīs mine,
download here (*mov, about 13 MB) >> (http://www.ahdesign.cz/video/2009_movies/dragon_movie_Hovorkova.mov)
its a short few-minutes movie,
showing the painting process (final detailing stage) of one of my old illustrations (in which I was testing a "hyperrealistic"-style approach) ..
Painter X; airbrushes & blenders used

1.-4. My NewBorn contest entry. Also made to be an Image for my Book
5. Rough thumbnail, with horrible posing. Just not getting what I want out of it. I like the idea well enough though.
6. Refined and given a little more energy.
7. Refined once again, There is a month between these and I had changed the design of the main character.
8. Mostly Multiply and Overlay layers to get a color scheme.
9. The finish
10. I cant find the Thumbnail for you guys but I drew it larger and wanted to try this one from a more refined pencil version as well. Most of what I do it is either a quick pencil thumbnail, or right in photoshop. Not sure why because I like working in pencil first.
11. I have never taken an Image to this level value wise either. I normally jump to color a bit sooner. This what definitely the hardest part of the whole image.
12. The finish. Much of this was figuring out color schemes and intensifying highlights, giving more atmosphere with the colors, along with correcting a few mistakes. Hehe there may be more.
Thanks for looking. I hope these can help someone.
All Images are for my Book http://seedsofmidgard.blogspot.com
***Its a self published project in progress. Its primarily a project to dedicate myself to so I can teach myself to paint. Saying that, Im no expert on any methods of the WIP's shown here, Im simply sharing.***

Daniel, I tend to like your grayscale roughs the best, your pencils are good too.... something gets lost in the color process, I'm not sure what.

Thanks for being honest about that. My gut tells me the same thing. Ive been trying my best to figure out what im doing wrong. I just gotta keep doing it :D
I have lots to learn. I was almost thinking about scratching any sketch book, or FF thread and make all my posts in the crit centre.
Thanks again!

i doubt this'll be terribly useful to anyone, but here's how I paint characters standing around smoking on plain white BGs!
