View Full Version : Brian the Angry Art Teacher
bgermain
January 17th, 2004, 11:45 AM
This character is an art teacher with a drill sargent mentality trying to teach art to college freshmen.
I wanted the art to look like it was done by a disgruntled student trying to make fun of the teacher.
You can view the rest of them HERE (http://www.bgstudios.com/projects/index.htm).

Oh man those are funny. I like the one with the desk that flips back and knocks the kid off his seat. "no talking".
Great stuff.

Haha. I sympathize more with the teacher than with the students, even though I'm a student myself! The kids in my classes are frickin' morons, and more than half of them are talentless slobs to boot (not saying that I'm brilliant either, but I can read, write, and I take my art seriously). Except for the "no talking thing" . . . sure, excessive talking is stupid, but I feel that some should be alllowed. Though such a device as the popping desk would be a delight to see in action (on others).

Thanks for the great responses, fellow scribblers! Rusty Red: that's exactly the mark I was hoping to hit. Thanks!

hey these are great brian..er... or should i say Mr. Germain[seeing how you are my elder]
the anime one hit me close to home. i was assigned to a table with two "ANIME FREAKS"[ freaks used not here not being derogatory but to illustrate there obbsession of it] and i don't think i ll be able to stand it for a whole semester. whats more is my art teacher is claims they are two of the best artists in the class. she needs to be hit with one of your trick drafting tables... do you think i could borrow one?

those made me giggle. I've had that teacher (in spirit anyway, mine was tattoo covered and possibly more bitter), but he was one of my favorite teachers anyway, beneath the grouchy, tattoo crusted surface.

Haha hilarious. There are other situations similar to these and some specifically I see all the time. I then stare at my teacher with such respect for putting up with the people thinking its a bird course.

Okay, last one for this thread. I've wanted to cover this topic for some time but I couldn't find a satisfactory way of doing it. I think this works...

"...I'll be here to correct this deficiency."
Couldn't be more true these days. I remember the good ole days when peach tree limbs were a holy terror in the hands of an angry aunt.
I really enjoyed these, maybe I'll have to draw some in defense of the student.;)

This actually happened in a Drawing II class.
Of course you can tell that I'm no comic strip artist.

To be fair, chances are the artist he liked was far more skilled than you, having a much stronger grasp of blacks & whites, and that's why it worked whereas he told you to not limit your pallette.
Personally, I'm wondering why the hell they have you working in color this early on, as color is really just value and you need to learn how to understand & use value before y...oh wait, it's a college drawing course. Nevermind.

Wow, those gave me a great belly laugh. I also like the burger-flippers, since I know some of those myself.
I would've killed to have an art teacher with this kind of humor! Thanks.

Man, I turn my back for a few months and I got a whole slew of new posts in here!
It's awesome to hear that I was able to make people laugh on purpose.
Sean: Killing gets you in a LOT of trouble, even if you finally managed to get off on a technicality.
daspetey: Bill Waterston is like a god to me. Thank you for that!
n69n: Yes, art hurts. Sometimes art will even drug you and bury you alive in a shallow grave just beyond the parking lot beneath the street lamp that mysteriously burned out two days ago.
DanSTC: You're probably right, but it's still funny if you don't think about it too much.
deadmaniac: This was something I tried to avoid doing, or at least made sure I explained it before doing it. As for your cartooning skills; hey, if Gary Larson can have a career... Turning the tables would be great, I'm sure we've ALL had teachers who had no business teaching anyone anything.
