December 3rd, 2009, 06:36 AM
good stuff man, I think you need to push the detail and form of your pictures.
because (generally) your forms seem geometrically very basic when on the exterior. Interior is pretty good. Surprised there isn't more comments here. :)
Thanks for dropping by me and mine.

Natzuur-JK
December 3rd, 2009, 10:38 AM
Incinerated: I agree about more comments=P The reason being is comments like yours help me so much, its so nice having a fresh pair of eyes looking at my work, and seeing things i don't see. You're right, a few of my drawings are too basic in geometry and if the shapes were more complex it would create much more dynamic feeling. Thanks for stopping by

This morning ill update with some 3d work since i haven't posted any since my first dump. These are both WIP models done in blender, niether one is rendered yet, just screenshots from blender workspace. Sword is a low poly game model that needs a texturemap (like first one) and tank is prob gonna be for 3d paintover.

Hope you like!

December 3rd, 2009, 03:06 PM
Hey there, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

Nice 3D concepts.Blender is awesome! Are you using 2.5?(because it is great,if not,you should try it)

I want to learn perspective,If I go slow I can do pretty good perspective drawings, but when I leave all the carefully planned helping lines and proceed with a quicker method,my drawing suddenly turns into a mess.Well,I guess it is a matter of practice.

Keep up the good work, drawings are awesome too!

Natzuur-JK
December 4th, 2009, 03:59 AM
Dsmith:Thanks! yeah perspective is def a matter of trial and error, going through the motions of setting up perspective grids helps immensly. I'm using blender 2.6, I love it, i tried 3dsmax, and honestly, blender is much more user friendly. I think it's as powerful too, which says a lot for being free. I'll drop by your SB again soon.

Small update for today, my damn scanner wont work, and my camera is out of batteries so only digital for a day or two. This is a light study, i'm not completely satisfied with it, but i think it helped me really consider light more when drawing and rendering.

Hey, nice looking sketchbook, I like the oriental feel that some of your pieces have. It's very unique. Are you going to school? if so what for?

Natzuur-JK
December 5th, 2009, 10:55 PM
Rhoades: Thanks man, I feel like my style is starting to emerge finally, but it's still in it's infancy. While I still have a lot to learn about light, perspec, anatomy, etc, Im glad its coming out finally. I'm not in college (yet), im looking into illustration or animation, not sure yet. Thanks for dropping by, glad you liked it!

December 8th, 2009, 11:47 AM
AlexTooth: Thanks! I really appreciate you stoping by! Yeah if i def need to keep practicing people and anatomy. Thanks for the kind words.

This post is some thumbs, and the resulting image ( I did more thumbs but dont wana show.) The image and thumbs themselves are a bit older, i've started reworking the image as i feel i'm getting srtonger and more confident in my digital painting. I may not finish it but still fun to do.

Jephyr X: Thanks, will do.

Here is an update on that enviro i was working on before. I'm not sure how much more im going to push it, but its not feeling quite done just yet.

Natzuur-JK
February 16th, 2010, 09:22 AM
So ive been looking at my last piece, and the colors seem so different on all types of monitors, obviously its gonna be different, but im so sure mine is that accurate. Is it too dark, or not enough contrast in some areas to any of you? anyway small update.

Speedpaints/WIPS both about 1 hr. Made a lot of custom brushes at work then put them to use for some speedies, was quite fun.

Natzuur-JK
February 18th, 2010, 11:58 PM
This one is done now.

Jasper_
February 19th, 2010, 03:30 AM
Cool stuff man, I like that your trying out more styles. I like these latest speedpaints, they're not as geometric as your older work and have got some great gestural textures and forms. Keep working on that style, and maybe you can work to combine the two effectively. Haven't seen any figures lately, but from what I've seen before they could use some work, particularly in showing the structure and form accurately in the human body. Enviros seem your strong point right now, but keep working figures and landscapes as much as you can man, there's definitely some improvement from the first page!

DSmith
February 24th, 2010, 04:03 PM
Hey there,Natzuur-JK,long time no see!
Your work is definitely improving, and you've got an unique style going on!
Some crits:
-there are some perspective issues with the grey house in your EOW.
-in your last painting, there is something off with the circular window on the door.
Both of the paintings look grait, just thought that I should point out the mistakes,as it could be helpful for you!

Keep going,I love your style!

Cheers!

Natzuur-JK
February 25th, 2010, 10:30 AM
Jasper: Thanks! yeah your right my enviros kind of took the forefront over figure/anatomy etc lately, I def need to work on my weak point. Your SB looks great btw, gonna check up on it again soon.

DSmith: Hey, thanks! You keep at it too.

Update, first one is another... guess what, enviro! lol

Second is a speedpaint, not rly gonna push it anymore, messing around with some alternative techniques in this one.

NeonDuck
February 25th, 2010, 08:54 PM
pretty nice work, but your perspective always seems a bit wonky... like there's always a vanishing point that's a little off or inconsistent. might have a look at that.

i'd also recommend focusing more on studies so you develop your shapes and anatomy etc. creative work is great but you might need a little bit more to base it on. the studies you've got are pretty cool, so you got a good start already!

Aresa: Thanks im glad you like.

Here is some traditional studies ive been working on, the painting is in Gouache, a medium im not too familiar with, this is my second time using it. The others are copies from bargue and jerome's Cours de dessin book. I've just got some oil paints, so im going to start an oil painting soon, should be fun. Update coming with some digital very soon. Sorry for the poor photos.100607810060791006080

Natzuur-JK
July 17th, 2010, 03:38 AM
JoshDArtist: Thanks, yeah i need some moar life practice for sure, who doesnt?

Lately ive been focusing on light and form, as well as learning to oil paint and forcing myself to not use acrylic techniques. I also bought greg manchess's vid and its awesome. I think im making progress and ill show some of my oil studies soon.

Here is a revisit to an old CoW and some small progress on my newest enviro. Really trying to focus on the light, composition is probably the next subject i'm going to put in the forefront for my education. If all goes as planned i'll have a nice portfolio with 8-14 pieces in 6-8 months.

I've included the final as it was before to show the difference, its still WIP and im going to tone the glow a bit, but i think it reads more believeable now.

Mussy: Thanks!

NEXT: Yeah my process was pretty much shit here, but I really spent about 3 hours deciding what makes a good image and how to go about from start to finish, I think I came up with something nice, Thanks! Glad you like it also.

Here it is almost done, I'll have some other work to post soon, but I wanted some feedback/critque on this one, the setting is purposely two light sources, i feel the middleground rocks are off, but know what to do, also needs some clean up, but besides that, any thoughts? I want this to be a portfolio piece.

i really like the traditionnal studies they have a bit more caracter then your digitals, i would advise you to do some landscape studies from photos, to find out what makes a enviro "real" and blend it with your "surreal" kind of style. just my 2 cents.

go draw! :)

Nice updates, always a joy coming in here.
Maybe think more about your edges, they look good i many of he enviros, but in that top one in your last post, I think maybe a bit less sharp in the top areas of the green foreground would create more depth. and also on your creature, blurring some of the edges at the top of the head and at the side of his legs pointing backwards would make the 3d feel better.
