Hi, I've recently started a small entertainment company and it's a big switch from being just the artist.

Are there any general contract templates or legal resource sites for concept art commissions online somewhere? I've found a few, but could use some more recommendations.

I've recently starting commissioning artwork from other artists on the internet and want to make sure I have things covered.

Some have graciously been willing to work without a contract (and I have paid them) but this seems unprofessional of me as a fellow artist. So, I want to make sure things are set so that when I approach some of the more professional and experienced artists who need the contract, I can get them started quickly on any concepts I need. And, of course, this also protects me and my company as well as the artist by providing deadlines, rights and ownership, etc...

A good chunk of the artists I'm in contact with are either in other countries from me (I'm in the US), which poses the question of whether these contracts are valid.

If there are no such resources I can find, can anyone recommend some good lawyers that I can consult with (for the usual consultation legal fees) on these matters? It'll cost a good chunk of my startup money that I'd rather use for artwork for now, but eventually I'll have to do it.

Check out some of the resources for artists' contracts online (I don't have any links, but you should be able to google for something). With some tweaking, you should be able to get a contract that works for you.

Also, see if there are any free legal clinics in your area. Some places, even if they are ostensibly about one area, can offer legal advice on things like copyright, too. It's worth a try, anyway, to save you from paying $900 an hour or similar fees. D:
