Got to see if last night in threatres, subbed.
I was suprised (not unhappily) by the slight difference in art direction from othetr ghibli films. Loads of the background painted looked quite a bit more stylized than expected.
I quite enjoyed the movie. Anyone else see it yet?

I enjoyed it, but this is definitely a kid's movie. ..like "Totoro in a bucket"

I absolutely loved it.

Was smiling all the way through when Ponyo became a girl.

They really got those toddler like behaviors spot on. E.g. Ponyo running on the sofa chair two times. Kids always do that multiple time.

It also has one of the best car chase scenes I've seen, beside Bourne Identity. I know Lisa is not going to skid off the cliff, but somehow you never know.

The sea rendering is just marvelous. That's the essence of animation - stylize and exaggerate. And Ponyo chasing on the waves...BRILLIANT CHASE SEQUENCE!!!

Most highly recommended.

I'll definitely be getting the Blu-ray when it comes out in December 2009.

I absolutely dug the movie. Great animation as always.

The only thing that bothered me (mildly) was Liam Neeson doing the voice of Ponyo's dad. It just didn't fit to me. Neeson's got a deep manly voice and Ponyo's dad was a thin wispy lithe sort of character.

Mild criticism of it, sure- but still a movie worthwhile seeing.
