I'll start.

Unusually, nothing.

I had a pretty good day. My flu is almost gone, sun was shining, read some comics, did a little shopping, currently chilling with a cold beer before Family Guy comes on.

The only minor annoyance would be Mrs Flake having a hair dye accident that turned the bathroom into something resembling C.S.I.: Scotland.

Adds a bit of character to a dull bathroom I guess..

Oh, and Tesco were out of monkey nuts and beef jerky again.

Haha. I did that once. I bought a really big throw rug to cover it up so my husband wouldn't notice. He did. We are no longer together. Hmmm... Related maybe?

Oh jeeze, there's just so much to bitch about my sister...I know it's normal for siblings to bicker, but she's a downright awful....AWFUL...human being.

*Sigh* So instead of moving my wet clothes from the washer machine to the dryer, she decides to leave my soggy clothes out on a table. While she does her own laundry. I come down a few hours later, and think my clothes are done and my sister was kind of enough to dry them...I learned the truth just underneath the top layer of dry clothes....

(New thread idea) What cheered me up today?: I pissed on her clothes in the dryer and turned it back on for 30mins. ^^

continuing the sibling hate, my sister decided to start an argument over leaving our cats out in the enclosure. her reasoning was that we would forget about them and she didnt want anything to happen to them, also its night and they have been out for a great deal of the day. my dad didnt agree because he had just put them outside and they love being outside. also they are nocturnal. dad asked her what could happen to them and she responded "anything!" >.>

seriously, neither gave it up and my sister ended up hitting my dad, all for the sake of the use of the kitty cage that they built together O_O

I have paper to write tonight (eh, not bad but whatever.)

I listened to the new Porcupine Tree album again and despite how disappointed I was by it the first time I realized that it is NOT getting any better. :(

Uh... Nothing has pissed me off, but, then again, I'm rarely angry. Depression and darkness is my game, I'm too lethargic for wrath...

There used to be a pet peeve thread in this lounge. It was good until someone posted a racist comment, then with the resulting fallout it was closed.

Incidently, petpeeve means "five beers" in Slovak, which may or may not be an appropriate cure for your ills.

Recently, I've had a hard time getting into my job, teaching English. My students aren't motivated, and extremely childish. One seems to have a mental handicap, but I'm not sure how to broach the subject with his homeroom teacher.

Heh.. that made me laugh. I can just see Charlie Brooker spitting out those words, wishing who could use harsher ones than The Grauniad would allow. He's right, but I do wish people would stop getting their knickers in a twist over Damien (ever so shiny, bit of a geezer) Hirst. He's not worth it, really. At least he's not slaughtering animals these days!

Seeing as we're moaning about things in this thread... Poor old Keith Floyd has kicked the bucket! By far the most entertaining and genuine of all those self-serving TV chefs.

We have a parking lot outside my school. Afterschool, a couple driving teachers use the space to teach (not from my school). They put up little sticks for students to drive around (apparently they can't afford cones?) I don't know if they rent the space or what.

Today, they placed one of these little sticks directly behind my car, so I couldn't get out, and I needed to get to my next job fast... So, with my broken slovak, asking them to move it, apparently, I wasn't polite enough, and this jerk of an instructor took offence. I tried to just move the thing, and he actually started a wrestling match over the stick. I eventually convinced him, but the fact he thought I was being impolite when he was blocking my car in the first place, and I was parked exactly where the director of my school had told me to...

Some people.

And just to be clear, it's a big enough lot that there's no need to be blocking any cars, period.

I had finished up work with a label, which I was payed $300. He asked me to do two more covers and asked how much for them so I told him $300-$500 (WHICH WAS ENTIRELY MY DAD'S IDEA. I HAVE THE TEXT TO PROVE IT!) and he asked why my prices have raised so significantly (which is true, originally I told him about $100) and I explained to him that it was because his label has a wider audience than others I've done work for in the past (greater audience = greater pay) and he freaked out! Now he says that he's just going to find another artist to do it... :( It sucks. Why do these damn clients scare so easily??? It's impossible to be decently payed in this field!

Waking up this morning looking forward to finishing some sketches and playing some games with my brand new keyboard and mouse that cost almost 200 bucks, getting some coffee and settling in, putting my sketchbook on my desk beside my keyboard, and immediately knocking over the cup of coffee, spilling the entire cup onto the brand-fucking-new keyboard and my sketchbook, and all over my desktop and the floor and then having to spend the next hour trying to clean up the mess, including opening up the keyboard and wiping off all the coffee inside it (and it was a lot), only to find out the half the keys are fucked and some just plain broken, meaning the circuit board probably got wet, in which case the keyboard is a useless piece of plastic board, and to top it all off, looking at my sketchbook only to find EVERY SINGLE PAGE has a coffee stain on the top. And it was a new sb too. So now i'm sitting here typing this with my old keyboard, which is a piece of shit that doesn't work half the time, sipping more coffee cause i'm addicted to it, and watching the blue bombers losing miserably. again. hooray life!

I'm probably going to have to go through that at some point too...

I've got one student who's very annoying. She got a workbook outside of school with an answer key last year. She filled up the whole book the first week, and then every class, every question, she'd call out the answer before anyone could speak. I made her erase it all, explaining the difference between copying and figuring it out yourself. Now she just copies it page by page, following with the class, and letting her friends copy too (who don't understand a word of English). She's basically sabotaging the class and her friends who won't be ready for any final exam, and when she's not doing that, she's asking snide questions meant to "get my goat" such as, "Why did you decide to teach, if you don't like teaching" or "Why did you choose this school?"

I like teaching just fine... It's just certain classes are more fun than others...

Hm, thanks for the tip. I still don't they do such, because I've received both an email and regular mail from them, urging me to renew my sub. So it seems to be out of their hands :) Besides, if if they would try, the creditcard I used last year to pay is now obsolete!

But honestly, if they would somehow manage to do it, I'd be perfectly content with it! "Oops, they took XX money from me for a new year-long sub? Well, guess there's nothing I can do but enjoy the mag ;)"

Asab, my problem is the reverse of yours. I wrote two cheques a couple of months ago.

Only today, I got a letter from the bank saying that both cheques had been stopped because I'd reported the chequebook as lost/stolen in 1997.

One of them was for my daughter's driving licence (which they sent her). AAAAARGH! Another fine mess to sort out......

Edit; this particular bit may well be my own daft fault, but I still hate my bank!

It's 5.35 am, I've spent most of the day lulling around knowing I have a huge chemistry test tomorrow and I just started studying. Now I have to cram 30pp wort of crap on organic shit I couldn't care less about (I care about the grade) in 1, 5 hrs. And my brain is so dead after just 5 pages.

i woke up this morning, knowing i'd had a dream that i cant remember but know that it made me mad in the dream (which never happens), which for reasons unknown continued to make me mad, and it takes a lot to make me mad.

stumbled into the kitchen to find it looking like a bomb had hit it - sisters who dont believe in housework strike again! they'd managed to use every plate, cup and cutlery in the house, and i'd only just done them a day before (though i had contributed very few to the mix)

went to make a coffee with my stovetop, found an empty milk carton (which i'd bought/hardly used) and no milk in the fridge, decided to go to the shops to get some. wanted to get cash out at the register to put aside, card declined cause i had bout 60 bucks of gas the night before and forgot to transfer funds.

went to make my coffee. ground my beans, but tamped just that bit too hard, so the water spluttered out of the chamber and burnt the coffee. tipped it down the sink. do not possess the will to go through the whole process again.

and now i gotta settle into a day of productivity. sigh... i dont normally grumble or gripe, but since this thread already exists...

Too bad I only figured that out half an hour in after I'd laid down my washes, so I had to correct it with some watered down white gouache.

Got the values right in the end, but now the drawing looks very overworked. Ah well, the good thing about working traditionally is that when you mess up you friggin' remember and don't do it again. No CTRL-Z for the win. :)

Plastic etch is so expensive and we barely have any money as it is, this isn't a private school. We took printmaking as an A level so we could make prints! How the hell are we meant to do that with no supplies?

Absolutely itching to get to uni next year and get stuck in to some awesome digital art courses, but for now I'm stuck with this bumbling fool of an art teacher forcing printing on everyone else and using half a tub of etching ink on 6 peoples plastic etches...

I'm 17, but "no" would not have been the smartest option (though running wasn't either) as I've missed quite a bit of PE this period already and I need to get my 20 pts together and me going "no" woulda also been a nonjustified miss (aka a skip) and our PE teacher just so happens to also be my head of class=wayy too much hassle sorting that out. We have a tough school, even PE matters.

I got pissed at a girl. Who knew, the same thing happens in college as it does in high school?

I just totally fucked up an ink wash drawing. Problem was that I chose my values wrong, should've made the sky darker than the shading on the bird instead of the other way around.

Damn, I had both of these happen to me at the same time. This one sarcastic girl in class who clings to me all day got pissed at the teacher for giving me an exception on my project. I was working on an architectural ink drawing with a few washes all week when the teacher noticed I was working overtime on it (I had stayed after class for a few hours every day one week to work on it. I was really motivated to do a great job)

So she tells me I can skip the next project everyone will be doing in class tomorrow (dealing with perspective... which I already know. One, two, three point, it's not that hard and she knows that) and I can keep working on my ink drawing and she think it can really be a nice piece. Of course I can only work on it in class, the girl notices and goes off on how she's specifically tailoring to me and that it's unfair for her that I don't have to do the next assignment. (Even though I'm a sophomore and most everyone else in the class is a freshman) So what else is a high school mind supposed to do? Talk to the teacher and sort it out with her privately? No, **** that, she completely demoralized her right in front of her face by being a rude bitch and asking demeaning questions. Though I have to hold off on my anger, I know that one day that attitude is going to stop her right in her tracks.

About the project though, because of her I can't concentrate, made a mistake, one wash was too dark, one was too light, paper started to rip in a spot. I just gave up for now after spending at least 20 - 30 hours on it. i might go back later this week and see what I can salvage.

I HATE IT when arrogant, high and mighty people try to seem better than their superiors/peers.

Just today I talked to my ex-gf for the first time since she broke up with me 1 month ago. I texted her and said "can we talk?" and she responded with "im not getting back together with you and you have to respect that." I was talking very diplomatically and not accusatory at all and somehow she says im trying to make her out to be the bad guy, and, pretty much, tough shit get over it, its no big deal break ups happen in high school all the time, im happy without you.

I knew we wouldnt go out again but i atleast expected some sort of reconciliation, like to be on speaking terms or something, but she pretty much told me to get lost.

The ironic part is that when we were first going out shes the one that was afraid i was gonna break up with her.

What pisses me off about this is that theres no labels identifying whats genetically altered food and whats not. I feel like where just asking for an ass kicking. As a poor student artist, I stuff my face with what I can. However today I feel rather repulsed and not very hungry at all. Kind of reminds of the plot of Oddworld, if anyones familiar. I understand potential benefits to this science, but Im sure it will no doubt be corrupted by control and greed. Maybe Im the victim of propaganda wouldnt be the first time.

The labeling thing pisses me off the most. As a consumer, we should have the right to know if something is genetically altered just as much as we have the right to know if peanuts were used in a product (for example). And we Americans wonder why there's an increase in things like birth defects and down syndrome.

Aphotic Phoenix

And we Americans wonder why there's an increase in things like birth defects and down syndrome.

I'd just like to point out that there has long been a correlation between the occurrence rate of trisomy 21 (Down's Syndrome), and maternal age. In other words: the older the mother, the higher the risk. Considering that many women wait longer to have children than a generation or two ago, it's not surprising that the occurrence rate of Down's syndrome would rise in accordance.

My rant: Anxiety over the past two days has resulted in very little sleep, a pounding headache, and I think the work computer has frozen in the middle of something really important. -_-

Just so you know, this is nothing new. All of the food you've ever eaten has been genetically altered in some way over the course of thousands of years of agriculture. You are most certainly a victim of propaganda.

Anyway, I'm pissed off at my neighbors across the hall here in my dorm, because they got really drunk last night and I had to ask them to be quiet THREE times. After the third time, they got mad and threw stuff at my door. Ugh.

This song and video really made me lose a lot of respect for Muse...

Wow... what were they thinking? Why have they suddenly gone downhill with their songs! They were amazing before, now, not so much :\

Anyway, what has annoyed me is that there are so many ignorant people around at the moment. I cannot understand how people think like that, and then refuse to even acknowledge or listen anyone elses opinions, yet expect everyone else to accept theirs? I am a very open minded person, and try not to judge people until I know them, but people who are like that I simply dislike.

I have no opinion on the late night talk show thing, but ever since Leno started, however nice a guy he might be, I couldn't help but think he was the jerk who appealed to college jocks and fratboys, while making fun of everyone he ever interviewed "on the street".

I see this as a good thing for OBrian, since talk shows are diseases that suck the life out of otherwise decent human beings. Now he can get his career back on track with some films. Or working on Comedy Central where he belongs.

Two things pissed me off yesterday:

1) I broke my knee. From jumping to give a high-five. Lame, I know.

It is my first time that I ever broke a bone and but look at the other side, it means that I can have more time to draw. But still, I'm pissed off about it because I won't able to do any sports I enjoy doing for a long time. And not even to mention that I live on the HUGE campus with ice and snow slush all over. It's going to be a wonderful time hobbling on the ice with crutches to my classes on the other side of the campus.

2) I got ticketed TWICE for same citation within a month.

I attend the university in New York and I'm an out-of-state student. So I brought my car here with my state license plate and it got snowed a lot here so the parking police didn't even bother to brush snow off to see if I have the permit (which is white) on my car. I parked legally in the parking lot where my car is registered to and yet I GOT TICKETED TWICE for that reason. Learn how to tell the difference between white permit and snow, OK? Thank you very much.

I feel sort of better now except for my knee, of course.

So what the hell else am I supposed to say, "You're disgusting?" Adobe.

I'm not even sure where to start. I want nothing more right now than to have their most highest up technical director look over my shoulder and see what his company's products are like to work with. And then kick his face in.

I'm busy designing a fairly large, fairly important document for the company I work for. It involves work in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat. Acrobat's supershit process for displaying alphas means that I need to rasterize everything into compressed JPEGs. This means an uncompressed, 3GB pdf needs to be generated from InDesign. InDesign will crash, randomly, and not give you the slightest clue why. Just a fuck you message. When you try and export pdfs from InDesign, it will crash, randomly, and not give you the slightest clue why. Just a fuck you message. I need to go back everytime into the document, and look for things like bounding boxes intersecting with the margins of the page. Or bounding boxes overlapping. Or not really anything, just slightly offsetting positions of elements. Once I have the pdf, which I need to export in 3 different parts, I need to bring it up in Acrobat and export compressed JPEGs and from there and recompile into a new pdf. I have about a 10% chance of it actually exporting the rich blacks in the document. Other times everything just comes out dark grey. I have fiddled with a myriad of settings and there is NO pattern to it. I might use exactly the same settings twice and get different results.

Even though my colour settings between Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign are identical, colours just fuck up. Even Pantones look different in different programs - can this be right??

Now I work in a studio where 3d is a big deal - it's an animation company. I look at companies like Softimage and see how they engineered and programmed their ICE dynamics, animation tools, this entire, complex 3d environment. They've even written an image format that blows everything else out the water (see .pic). And they get all of this to work most of the time, with some understandable problems.

So how the fuck is it that Adobe can't get their programs to export images and text into a format that they wrote? How is it that they cannot get this to work right? The creative suite has seen less evolution over the past few years than a rock in a vacuum. How is it that suite after suite, they consistently produce the softest piles of shit on the market.

I'm fuming
sorry

A while ago there was some sort of small traffic accident. Settled outside of insurance to prevent both rates from going up. Quotes for hers said 300 and I agreed. For two weeks I emailed her asking when can I pay you, when can I pay you. After the two weeks she finally responds and it goes like this...

"Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, I was away with pneumonia. But since you have caused such a delay in getting me the money you must have it here before 4pm today.

(later in the same email) And I decided I needed to rent a car during the period mine was in the garage. Now the total is 674.82. If I do not receive it by 4pm today I will be going to my insurance."

*mind explosion*

How can it possibly be my fault and I delayed things when every day for two weeks I attempted to contact her to no reply and SHE was away sick? How can you apologize for not replying and then blame it on someone else in the same breath? Oh, and then rather than you know letting me pay in cash or by email money transfer, I had to go get a certified cheque to which I was out another 15 dollars. And I had to leave work two hours early, losing approximately 50 dollars in pay. So not only did she decide to more than double to original agreed upon cost, she cost me money being a difficult so and so.

Top it off, when I got there and handed it to her. She finishes it with "there will be no further communication between us" in a snarky voice.

What is WRONG with people.

screw 'em and dont let them eat your confidence. If you're at high school level, you just have to tough it out till you leave and then the whole world changes. You'll realise just how petty and irrelevant the idiots you've been forced to share space with for the last xxx amount of years actually are.

I couldn't wait to leave school, the social system that the kids created for themselves and the teachers refused to moderate, spoke nothing of the real world, They spent their time worrying and talking about how people dressed, who was the hardest in a fight, who was a 'geek' and who was 'cool', you know stuff that means shit in the real world.

Now twenty years later I'm looking on facebook and seeing how all my tormentors married overweight partners, stayed in the same old boring town and never amounted to much. I'm also confident I'd slap every one of them silly if we were to get into it today.

I was the awkward 'ginger' haired kid who everybody loved to harass and was definitely not considered 'cool', yet I married a hottie (seriously she's model hot), moved to a different country and have had a relatively exciting life (if not frustrating.) The issues that confronted and tormented me at high school, dissipated into the wind on the very day I left, and never bothered me again.

Good luck, and if its really bad, message me and I'll try to give you specific advice. School bullying has been a pet hatred of mine since.....well since it happened to me.

There are mountains of snow outside and now the weather's warmed up so it's slosh and positively swimming everywhere. So I decided I need a pair of wellingtons.

I mean crap.

Everyone's been buying them so what is left are mostly either very small or large. Also wellingtons seem to be a hot thing among the crowd a few years younger than me so try finding something that looks 'normal'. I mean don't want fucking cowprint with pink souls or something floral. So after prowling through rows and rows and shops and shops of these I finally find something I'm OK with and, like all of them did, they charge hideous money for it. 50$ for a pair of fucking wellingtons!

Well it was not today but the other day. Some of my classmates always try to bully me every time. I just don't know what has just gotten into them. I don't to mention names here or I might get banned.

Do they have rainbow tattoos and wear short shorts?

One of my pet peeves is when people ask me "How're you doing?" when passing by or when they're busy doing something, instead of just saying "Good day" or "Hello". When people ask me a question, especially if it's about how I'm doing, I feel inclined to answer it and maybe start a conversation. But if you don't have that time, asking me how I'm doing is not interchangable with "Hi!" >:[
