Two page spread magazine comps for a make-up company's 2004 campagne. Kind of a odd job from my usual work, but I had a lot of fun doing these.
The ads (Photographed versions) should be out sometimes early this year :)

Thanks!!
These were done for magazine ads and they are set-up so you can use them both as a two pages spread or crop them to make a single page composition.

They were all done before the actual photo shoot. Their purpose is more for presentation reasons to help them pitch ideas for the campagne. It also serves the purpose of helping them plan for budget and see how many models to use and what materials, costume, sets to prepare.
Most likely the final ad will be quite different from these images. The comps serves as a spring board for more ideas from the creative director and photographer. It is also much easier to get budget and sell your idea if you have some visuals to accompany it.
The image was to convey the origin of the company, which is a photography studio. The owner want the ad to show the behind the scene activities from the set and also to sell the make up on the model's face.
Basicly it need a wide shot and a close-up shot at the same time. I try to cheat it by adding monitor showing close up details of the models face. I also tried medium and close up shots to give them some options to choose from.
I was trying to play with long exposures to illustrate the motions that goes on off camera on the set. It works well to establish focus and loose background details.
I also tried to show the model during breaks while the assistants help her with make-up & dress. Just trying to capture a nature off camera moment on the set.
One other idea is to stage from the model's POV. So the model became foreground and the set and photographer became background.
I have some reference looking at Peter Lindbergh's photography's for composition & set up. Other than that the figures and sets are all invented.
Hope this will help :)

Ack! Two great posts by Kchen.
The best bit about these is the composition.
Really like the play of shadow in light going on here.
The fact that you focused the detail on the models also really helps to sell the idea.
Really nice stuff.
Btw, your figure work has really helped me.
