Female Photo Reference Flash App!!!

Hey all! I just put up a flash app that lets you look at 9 different expressions from a bunch of different angles. Check it out, and let me know what you think! Hopefully it helps!

I'm _really_ not convinced by this. Very bad acting right there imho. The only emotion I can recognise is disgust.

1 Gnostic -from above it looks okay but from the front as well as the bottom this is not a face devoid of emotions. Actual this looks kind of sad to me. Is there a reason that the eyes are artificially widened?

2 Happiness - the eyes make it a fake laughter, you should put wrinkles on the sides of the eyes if you want a more genuine looking expression.

3 Sadness - looks more like sneezing to me. Also, sadness is a very complex emtion that ranges from grief and despair to gentle pity. All of which have different traits.

4. Surprise - I know this is everything the textbook says surprise should look like, with widened eyes, open mouth and stuff... but actually I always cringed when I saw the textbooks on emotion having those kinds of pictures of surprize. This is more an immediate and fast declining state of shock. For a more sophisticated and coool looking surprize-face I recommend the one and only:

5 Fear - Here it's the mouth which looks really off. I would at least close it in any case the features are way too calm to give the impression of fear.

6 Anger - oh please... cheesy as hell. Although it's only the nonexisting wrinkles between the eyes that make this really non-menacing.

8 Interest - I don't like this at all. For me, there is inspired, enthralled, delighted, concentrated and all that's imprtant seems to be sexual interest. Although I wish women would look at me like that a bit more :(

9 Pain - Kind of hard to tell I tend to think that pain is more bodylanguage that mimic so a face alone doesn't really cut it for me. Although maybe tey wanted to show electrical shock with the hair I dunno.


I any case, listen to your own guts and imagine yourself in the situations you felt those emotions helps more than those kinds of references, since almost all of the time somebody gets photographed they begin to act out but genuine doesn't look like that.

EDIT: Rereading the original post it slipped that you are indeed the author of this. I apprcheate the effort very much so please don't misunderstand.

Faust - No worries. Besides, I treat reference as a jumping off point, not something that needs to be slavishly traced. If something isn't 100 percent what I need, I invoke that artistic license I've been issued.... ;)
