Hi All.

Basically the background to this is that im a 3d artist, i spent 2 and a half years studying 3d, but came out with that feeling that I think a lot of people do, that i had learned the tools but not the art, also a feeling that i could do much more interesting things if i was good at 2d also.

Sure im fine at textures etc, and really enjoy making them, but perspective? Lighting? don't they have buttons for those?! :dur:

So Somewhat inspired by the mindcandyman thread and also the realization that to get an actual job in VFX/Matte Painting/Games/3d Monkey Work/Man Whoring or whatever it is I intend to do that some actual talent in 2d work may help me to some extent, here i go!

I will be posting all my efforts at drawing and painting in photoshop, in the hope that posting them here may motivate me somewhat.

Im not aiming to make anything that good, just get as much practice as i can, so with that in mind, please tear my work to bits, tell me every little thing i can make better, thats what im here for! :)

One of my favorite paintings, something good happened here :D

Very simple perspective and shape wise, so I found it not too hard for once!

Has an odd green tinge that im not quite sure if i wanted or not..

Done at a similar time as the city (about 6 months ago)

Its sort of a rough impression of a big bushfire near a lake - felt like playing with cool lighting and reflections again :)

I feel like it turned out OK - but the trees are a little odd and the colours arent really what i quite intended!

Again, simple perspective (none really!) which made it easier for me

Perspective is something big i need to tackle, I come from a world of it all being done for me really (3d) and never paid that much attention to it

Having a go at painting some buildings into the side of a canyon.

I liked the idea of having a city sort of built into the walls of the canyon, and this is a painting im keen to finish when im a bit better, im just not quite up to it at the moment.

Perspective is strange on the closer building, but other than that im quite happy with it so far, i think the towers look 'OK'

Some more recent sketches since i got my new wacom (in an attempt to guilt my self into drawing more, since i spent that much on it, how can i not use it? :P)

Just some speed drawings of cubes, my desk, a lamp..

Some recent landscapes - this is what Im quite keen on.

I love huge beautiful fantastical landscape matte paintings, so I figure practicing landscapes is a good start.

These were both done in about 20mins each i guess? - they have issues, but they get across broadly what was intended i guess!

The grey coast one is sort of from a Yanick Dusseault tutorial.

Thanks, that means a lot - what you see in this thread is pretty much the only things (besides textures) i have ever drawn, so glad they aren't too horrific! :)

Some kind of cove thingo, possibly with pirates - thats what you get for listening to the Pirates of the Caribbean sound track while painting!

Its intented to have 2 layers of mountains one behind the other, but somehow they got blended strangely... yea... about that..

Edit... thats REALLY dark on my second monitor but good on my other one...
