BP Portrait Awards

The BP portrait awards exhibition is on until 20 September. It is at the National Portrait Gallery in London (around the corner from the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square) and is free entry. It is well worth visiting while it lasts, with some very impressive and inspiring examples of modern realist painting. Highlights for me include 'Tom' by Michael Gaskell (which is miraculously fine), 'Benefica Blue' by Mark Jameson, 'Amelia' by Celia Bennet, 'Imagine' by Jose Luis Corella, 'One in Two' by Ian Cumberland and '5 am' by Marianne L. Gibson.
