In the beginning was the pencil, and the pencil made scratches in the image of the mind.

I have a large amount of respect for your artwork. I don't even know for sure, why. I look around a lot, like to stroll around "the very best" to get inspired.

From a technical standpoint this stuff isn't the very best, and I'm not really one to talk, but it has something BETTER than the wicked realistic lighting schemes or masterful brushstrokes. It has a style to it, and a feeling that you've been able to very strongly bring to life.

I would encourage, at the moment, two things: The first being, presentation. You've got some great work, but I feel that some simple contrast tweaking before posting it up could make it jump out and seem a lot more professional. These ten second little tweaks could make a big difference.

The second being, do more. I am without very many sketchbooks to frequent, I wish I had more of them. I want this to be one of them.

Many cheers to you for now.

Self portrait done back on nov 1st for self portrait day ...never got submitted...till now...lost on a flash drive...long story...now i cant find that thread
thanx all for the inspiring comments...
most of my recent projects including this one is done mainly in Corel Painter and finished in Photoshop...kinda of nice with this piece...learned with the tablet if you hold down two of the buttons it rotates the canvas to work on as if it were a sheet of paper....makes it easy...learned allot with this piece...

Thank you for the comments...and the ratings......means allot...made my day
My more recent pieces are done mainly in Painter, starting off with random brush strokes with nothing in mind from the start...I find pallet-knives are fun, and oils. Mess around with the values in the brush creator...then move back and forth from painter and Photoshop...photoshop mainly for color adjustments and composition tweaks...I find the color option sliders help me pick hues and values...I use painter 9 and an intuos tablet from wacom...
for my line work and ideas I find myself putting random lite lite lines and just experimenting with shapes in parrallel and contrast...and making beeline dances...I admire all spiders...I would like to get into more reference work in the future...but for the most part its all from outer and inner space these days...Ive used other things in the past for example grass stains, coffee stains... on paper and finding shapes and such in the randominityity of it all...
hope this helps

Love the work. Definitely bookmarking your book.

I really love the soft feel to your work, and the dramatic use of light.

Post more please !

As far as work goes. Don't be afraid to take some low pay gigs at first, just for exposure or to get some work printed. A few top artists started out just doing low paying work for Role Playing games and stuff. Always helps to have a few published pieces in a protfolio. Shows you have some experience working with art directors and under deadlines.

Your sketchbook...
Is bloody brilliant. :O

Seriously great style and eye for colours.
One small crit though, your less stylised portraits such as 68 and 71 (I think) seem to have flat eyes. I only picked up on it myself because it's a problem area for me currently xD

Anyways, keep an eye on that and post more soon!

I never really thought about it...I grew up drawing eyes allot and sort of picked up the process and tricks in a comic sense, but never realized I have been missing the whole thing that eyes are round reflective objects...I can do that. thank you very much for your extremely helpful post.

dear god. your knowledge of anatomy and ability to distort it so believably are.. absolutely stunning. i love your style and your work. im wondering just how much greater your digital environments would be if there were braver, more complex color combinations.. just a thought, a different direction.))
