Hey, folks
Been wondering about the book by Don Seegmiller, digital painting and character design. I keep on looking at it in my local bookstoe...been doing this for a while. It says it has quicktime clips on the cd-rom. Is there any audio on these.
As I flip through it, I'm finding that it's missing some steps in the painting process for his demos. Color palettes that he uses being a major thing for me. :(
And his technique really isn't explained...maybe the Quicktime movies on the cd-rom have a more thorough explanation? Hard to say.

What's everyone else's thoughts on the book "Digital Character Design and Painting" by Don Seegmiller?

yes, worth it. The tutorials explain every thing very clearly. THe videos dont have audio they are just timelapses of his paintings.

Very much so. He offers brush selection advice, but speaks a lot about theory too ie how do build color and create volume. Its pretty easy to follow along, and he includes some of his own brushes.

-I own the book and it's been the best resource I've found for digital painting other than various tutorials on the net. It's fantastic and I think that every artist who dabbles in Painter should pick it up. Can't recommend it enough!

Hey, thanks for the advice, I have it in my hand now. :D
Best to go through it thoroughly than to eyeball it at the bookstore for months. ;)
Thanks a lot for your thoughts on the book. :D

"The best investment a student can make is in books." This is one of them. :)
A worthy investment for anyone working in digital art, and don't forget to study other painters like Helen Van Wyck, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Sargent, Ingres, Degas, Velezquez, Sorolla, Anthony Van Dyck, www.artrenewal.org Rockwell, Wyeth, and everyone on this board. :) El Coro, MAnley, Jones, Feng, Chiang, Church, etc. A lot of 'em hey Frazetta, wait, I'll stop now, I think you get the point. :)
