Decided to start a new sketchbook since there's too much time difference between the new sketches and the old ones (took a looong break from sketching).

Here it goes.
Some newer and some older:

My scanner is fucked up so I have to post something older.
This one is a portrait of my brother, done in December.

His left eye is messed up, but I think I nailed the rest.

Some C&C would be VERY appreciated.

Yes, the position on the left may be off too.. but its closer.. Also the nose angle was done very well. but the lips appear to be dragging behind - to the right.. no angle/shortening there to distinguish the perspective the eye looks for judging by the other features. But still its nice. Do more :) - chudds

the portrait's pretty good, as said before about the eye, and the cheek seems to be a little large, otherwise i'd say this is a very good start to a promising sketchbook! great previous sketches!
keep up with the portraits, they're a great way to improve understanding of the face shapes and shadows!!!!! keep it up bud!:D

Few days old

And todays' scribbles.
I was bored while doing homework, so I tried to work with a different technique. They may not be that good, but some crits would be good. ;)

Gah. I'm getting lazy. :/
So much stuff running trough my mind lately that I got distracted from sketching.

Tried to fill up a whole page like lung_bug, but that took quite a long while, so I don't think I'll do it again. =P

Here's some sketches from the past 2 days. It's really fun to draw faces "from head".
No ref used for these.

Spellshaper, you are just 15? Great works for that age. Just keep on that track and you will improve inevitably. I'll certainly watch you! :D

Shell - Thanks for commenting in my sketchbook. You have a great lineart style. I specifically like the last faces you drew with only marker (I'm assuming?), and the lil talking blob in your earlier stuff.

But the sitting angel is my absolute favorite. Love the movement and the melancholy. Excellent. I think my only criticism would be that your faces tend to have small mouths. Not much of a criticism tho, seen as how it's part of your style.

Thank you so much for replying guys. Really appreciate it.

- Jester: thanks alot. and yeah, I'm 15. :)
- stormy: np. the sitting angel is also my favorite, maybe because when I did it I went trough an emotional period so it kinda means alot to me. and thank you so much for your kind words.

today's update. not a big one. have so many other things to do. :/

Sorry spellshaper, havn't checked your sketchbook for a while! well here we go,

-The Swifts- advice to getting motivated

-look at other peoples sketchbooks(mindcandymans is incredible) and instead of thinking "dam i wish i could draw like that", think "hey if a work at it, i COULD draw like that"

-buy some good anatomy guides (brigdgemans complete guide to drawing from life is imo the best) and use them!

-self portraits are a good way of understanding the shape and shades of the face

-alternate what you do, not just anatomy or just pencil sketches, try different topics........vechiles, environments, characters...........and try different mediums..............paint(digital/ other), charcole, pastel

-take your time and ENJOY sketching!

that's what it's all about, well i hope i've helped, i'm 15 myself and i know how hard it is too be recognised as being serious. keep at it, i'll be back

-The Swift-:)

- The Swift: Thanks for your advices. I'm sure it will help though it has been hard for me to find some time lately.. Bah... Thanks anyway! :)
- Angela, Yiako: Thanks for your kind words. I also hope to see my work more often. =P

cool updaye spellshaper! the first one without a ref is really good, the proportions of the face seem really good, the jaw bone looks a little pointy though!

keep going:) !
