Hey fellow CA, starting a new sketchbook. I'm looking to improve on my anatomy, drawing technique and rendering so I'll try to update often and hopefully get some crits and feedback.
09/26/2011 - I've recently given away one of my sketchbook to a dear fried as a parting gift. It was hard to let go but at the same time presented an opportunity to start anew.

Started a sketch this morning to get going again on a new sketchbook. I'll be making an attempt to colour it digitally, perhaps tonight.

You know I think your boards are great. <3 The pinup's head looks a bit small, and her lower leg has a very short calf. I'd also do some work on the skintones as she's looking a bit orangey-red.

Some nice work around here. I especially like the girl with tigers. That piece has a lot of potential, so I'd really like you to take it to a finished illustration. Some of the issues you could solve before doing it are the tigers, which seem a bit small. Also, the chest, waist and pelvis of the girl don't seem to match well. Anyway, good work! keep it up:)

I'd suggest you take Loomis' Figure Drawing for All It's Worth and Drawing Heads and Hands, plus Bridgman's Constructive Anatomy. Read those books, copy the drawings, turn the page of your skecthbook and close the book and try doing those from your head.
Keep up with the great work.

Let me say that I love your pencil sketches the best, post #1 studies are great, you are very strong with a pencil. I like your storyboard/comic idea on post #2 and think it would be great for you do to more, clean em up a bit , maybe ink them?
I adore and envy your tree/nature and building studies, the cardboard-ish background gives a nice effect. You are very strong with lines!
I see you experiment a lot with different styles, that's a good thing, keeps you as a well-rounded artist IMO. This recent marker dude in post # 37 is cool, too.
I would like to see more pencil sketches and studies of things in nature and people. Maybe expand on your storyboard ideas they have a lot of potential, and the more recent postings could develop into a really great urban art style! Keep it up, you have lots of talent. Hi Kitana, I think you hit the nail on the head there with your comment about my lifedrawing figures. I have a habit of rushing and making up shadows even with the object right in front of me. I'm kind of stubborn that way, but it is a limiting factor most of the time so I am training myself to be less 'lazy' in that sense and really grasp the idea of 'seeing what is there' Thanks.
I came across a book of caricatures so I decided to try a few. and then some teeth practice.

http://myoldart.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/boards1.jpghttp://rlillustration.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/boards1.jpg
This set of storyboard panels were based on a Short Film idea that I originally planned to take into production. This was going to be about drinking and driving, yet a perfect excuse to draw cars, velocity, cars, collision and finally cars, but it was later scrapped and the project abandoned altogether. Looking at it now, some four months later, I’m glad that I kept it shelved this long and now I can make the proper changes and a better direction.
A good storyboard can…
tell a story, but it communicates it through information like camera moves, arrows, text rather than the picture itself. Lacking a background in Film, I will often rely on storytelling through drawings which is a mistake I make all of the time. Sure you end up with nice drawings, but it doesn’t help the director nor the cinematographer whose job is to capture the scenes based on the script/storyboards. Luckily, these are non-commissioned work, and learning from these mistakes. An example of a great storyboard can be found here
Below are some of my storyboard thumbnail drawings for exploring action-based sequences.
Storyboard – Short film concept
http://rlillustration.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/junglefever.jpg
Just mindlessly formulating an action sequence based on a hunter/hunted idea. Note, action sequences are fun and exciting, also very tedious and planning. I was deep in my study of storyboarding at this point before a lot of my personal studying time was sidelined.

Iven: I'm glad that you found my comments and link useful, but I hope you keep on looking for more until you find one or two that really stands out for you. (then you can throw that link to me as well :confident )
So, here is yet another post on storyboarding to keep the flow going.
There is a rule in film, called the 180 degree rule. It basically state that the actors in the scene will share the same left and right throughout the scene to avoid visual distortion / confusing the audience. A better explanation can be found here : link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/180_degree_rule) wink wink
With some exception, here is an example of breaking that rule and solving the issue by creating a moving point of reference. I used the approaching figures with the baby stroller as the moving point of reference in order to move the camera from the back view to the front of the couple sitting on the bench.

iven: Thanks for coming back! I'm also trying to put more effort these days to fill up the pages.
Pixie Trick: Thanks for the kind words, that is a huge deal but be careful with them jaws. I am going to fill my sketchbook with even more faces and be more creative with their expressions.
Update: I finished working on a set of these comic book panels which involved a man in a cape in specific scenarios. Some sets were a lot less challenging to draw compared to the ones that really pushes my ability draw and to watch out for the usual culprits of mine ... perspective, hands, arms, and proportion .
For the most part, the coloring was the rewarding part of the task for me (because I know that I can move on to the next set of panels when I'm done).

Hey Iven, you're right.. he has no heels at all! I was rushing to finish and foreshortening is always tricky for me. I'm working on a new set of panels again and this time I want practice the use of the foreshortening technique.

A little bit of progress...
I've been working on a couple of illustrations pertaining to the moments of the "sublime (http://www.bartleby.com/24/2/107.html)" in Mary W. Shelley's "Frankenstein."
This one particular scene is the killing of the protagonist's wife, Elizabeth, while the murderer, Victor Frankenstein's creature, examines his work. Need to control the shadows more, but again I rush I rush.

Here is another illustration in b/w relating to Frankenstein, the scene which Frankenstein's creature attempts to introduce himself to a family that he had been observing. Also trying some digital work on the side.

Hey thanks Iven, I agree about having a black frame around the artwork. I will try it with my newer pieces.
I did a self-portrait study earlier, needs a bit more work.

Hi there I really like the new works, but why would you post your stuff smaller than 1200pix
OOhh you don't want me to see the details well, lucky you that the hands look good
when they are so small ! :assspank:
1200pix fits on all small laptops, DOES IT?!
No seriously sometimes I am like, dammit why is that so small wanna see the details!

Here are some drawings leading up to the holiday break.
@Iven - I agree, 1200 pixel width does fit the laptop screen.
