A guy at a german speaking artforum had an idea, I liked, of an 1on1 close combat arena.

I took his idea a bit further and painted this...

Ps. Its also some kind of a Vance Kovacs<3 hommage. If you want to see some kick ass levelconepts try to find his baldurs gate stuff...

i like this a lot.. its not necessarily an original concept, but its well executed.. just a couple of things to watch for.
there are some issues with perspective like the door not quite lining up with the wall.. granted it is just a concept painting, but those are things to watch for.
also, i'd love to see you refine some of the strokes in the ground and get some detail in to it.

Well if I had to fight to the death, I'd rather do it there than anyplace else...

Elevenrequiem, the door looks like it's supposed to be a little turned and leaning back like that. It looks more dungeony, like the door leads down some twisting corridor to somewhere full of bunnies. A nice touch I wouldn't have thought of.

Thanks for your comment robolus (and all the others too)

and yes the door is supposed to be leaned back a bit.

Mysen: I'd really love to see one of my designs to be put in 3d. If i can help you any further than with this concept - let me know :)

I like it, but the hole leading into teh lava pits on the center, well, when you have a one on one, theres always that breath before the plunge, that moment when teh badguy an teh goody stare each other down. I think you need to have a larger center area for that confrontation, but i guess thats just an aesthetic oppinion, really nice work, i like it a lot:)

Very cool! Great atmosphere for a one-on-one duel! I can totally see that being a duel map for some cool game, like Jedi Knight or something.

What really bothers me is that the rather bland rock is clearly visible on the upper right and the interesting altar/window with the candles is hidden in the lower left, turning it's back on me. Apart from that - great job.

looking good but ingame this wont be much fun to play. think of floorplans and what kind of tactics they involve

your layout looks very open which will kill most gameplay(look at most ut2k3 maps... that's what I call bad mapping :( )

Hey Bal, how're you doing? Those links are cool, some good thoughts. Makes me want to go back to mapping :)
I think this would work better for a boss fight in single player than as a multiplayer map. I'm not sure about the jedi games though.

Sorry to be spamming your thread magira… i seem to do that a lot lately, another bad habit to get rid of.
Don't get too much into your work, Abitur is hard, but not impossible at all. After all, *i* got one, and my work usually consisted in lifting beer glasses. Just relaxe, most teachers try to make it as easy as possible for you if you cooperate :D
If you know how to pass a test and know the basic stuff it's not much more than a walk in the park.
