these are beautiful, the texture and the raw emotion. Is this acrylic or oil?

The color palette and texture remind me of Sophie Jodoin

Hi

First pic is very centered- to a point where all possiblity of an interesting composition is threwn out the window. Your choice of colors and stroke evoke emotion, a very dry angst look. However, I would recommend on not using a certain color too gratuitously. Also think in combinations; what colors side by side will give a stronger sense of the feeling your going for?

Eyes on the second pic are very very well done, I wish the entire peice had that consistency- but then again, maybe you only wanted the viewer to appreciate the eyes?

Thanks for you work, I love fine arts.

amphex> sure! soon as i take some better pics of some of my other stuff.

cchen> hehe ya i rarely consider composition at all. 18x24 is pretty small for a painting so i guess i dont feel i have any room to 'get fancy'. besides while working on the angel painting the only thing i was sure about was centering it as precisely as possible. everything else was just moving paint around hoping for the best. as for color combinations, you're right, it's something i really need to work on. i have a very bad sense for color so you will have to forgive me until i get more experience.

ya i wanted the focus to be on the eyes, didn't expect the 'other stuff' to come out as abstract as it did but i'm happy w/ the abstraction nonetheless.

i'm really really really not into abstract art at all but while i paint i guess i get frustrated with not being able to paint well so i start experimenting and the strange thing is, not only does it feel very good, i'm generally happy with the results. go figure.

i'm not really an angry person, though emotionally disturbed (at times) wouldn't be too far off! and yes, i love the blood in the angel painting. i was slapping that shit (aliz crimson + ultramarine blue = yummm) on like crazy and loving it.

cchen: what do you do with your extra thumbs?
