Hi everyone,
After what has seemed to be forever to me...the time has come to post up a sketchbook once and for all.
As it is, life has thrown my way a lot of F*@ked up situations lately completely out of my control. Which at some point it let me to a fear of Art that I had never experienced before. I came back to CA after a long absence where it seemed art and everything I loved about it was vanishing from my life. I am back to STAY!
I want nothing more than to improve and leave the past behind once and for all...to reach my dreams and goals with all my might! :yayca:

I must say I like your posts very much so far! Also your enthusiasm and spirit are something I can learn from. :) There is an interesting quality about your lines, especially the black on the toned papers. Very reminiscent of Oriental-style brush strokes. Is that what they are? I can never tell these things very well. XD

Keep fighting.

@coreanseoul's - Thank you so much for your kind words. The Ink sketches were done with indian ink Brush Pens. They are a lot of fun to use and can be easily refill.

10 min digital sketchy from reference from this morning..
and some oldies I had lying around, some of which are done works.

These are rough partial Turn-arounds for a small boy I will be sculpting in Maya and later on Zbrush. I plan to do the full turn-arounds by hand and ink. This its the final design I'll be going for.
I am still trying to decide whether to give him shoes or not since the main goal is to animate him interacting with a turtle in beach. But then again, giving him shoes would mean that I get to use him more on other animation tests. ;)

So this sketchbook hasn't seen very much from me lately unfortunately.
However, I am gonna bring back to life little by little..first off these are 2 different 3D works I produced last Winter quarter at school. One of them is a Turtle character (still unnamed) done in Maya and ZBrush. I'm having a friend of mine rig this character to be animated by me later on. I've also found some issues with its textures once taken back into Maya since it was textured in Zbrush that need to be dealt with in the next couple of weeks.

The other sculpture is of Heath Ledger as the Joker. A compilation of shots before I took it apart once again and reworked the outfit and hair and a few of the details to make him look more like the actor. I will post more professional photos later on.

Hey, I saw your introduction over on the Girls Only Section and thought I'd pop over and say hi since I'm kind of a fellow SCAD animation student (currently done with classes, just finishing thesis)...
You should post more... although I know how SCAD can suck up all the time in the world.
What is your focus on? Do you want to be a generalist? modeler? animator? concentrate on 2D or 3D?

Comments on your last post: Since one of my specialties is texturing, I would say that the texturing on your turtle seems a little under-developed. You could take this a lot further. I haven't done much with z-brush, so I don't know about your issues transferring to maya, except that it's not an unusual problem. If Sunny Kwon (grad student) is still around I would ask him...He does amazing things with z-brush.
I think the sculpture is a bit ambitious as you'll be fighting the size of it trying to get all the details. Is this for a class?

Hi,
Thats awesome to see a fellow Scaddie here at the forums. I'm currently a Junior and will be starting my senior film next year. :)
How do you like SCAD for grad school? I've been considering doing grad school right after graduation but that is just a maybe..lol
Right now I like a bit of everything, Modeling/sculpting, Animating both in 2D and 3D and concept. I will be taking Ken Huff's texture class next quarter as well as Bridget Gaynor's lighting class. Did you have them while here at SCAD?

I agree, the turtle probably does need a bit more work and some cleaning up as well. It was my first time using ZBrush and I gotta say they sure love to make transferring models to maya a little too complicated for beginners like me. The Sculpture was for a class, its about 12-13 inches and it needed to be as detailed as possible. Its 1 of the 3 sculpts we did for the class over at the Sequential Department. :)

Yea, I should really start posting things up. ;)

Yeah, I did take Ken's and Bridget's classes. And they are AWESOME! I hope you won't be taking 3 studios though...or at least try to make the third one something on the easy side of things. Those 2 classes are a lot of work. Bridget also teaches some texturing classes (character look development, an creature look development) but she is better teaching lighting. Take lots and lots of notes...you will need them. Both classes allow you to come up with your own final project so you might be able to get away with combining the two into one final...just ask them about it at the beginning of the quarter. Might make life easier.

Don't know if I would recommend grad school there to someone who did undergrad there...I think I would recommend the MA over the MFA if there are still some courses and such that you want to take to hone your skills. Plus, you don't have to do a thesis for the MA...hahaha :evilmustache: The grad program overlaps somewhat with the undergrad so you may find yourself thinking "Haven't I done this?"

I did my undergrad in painting somewhere else, so SCAD was a complete change for me and I loved it...The work load just about killed me though as I went to school yr round for 3 yrs (summer too) and mostly took 3 studios at a time...there aren't many lectures in the grad program, like maybe just 1. I wouldn't change it though, I have learned sooo much...now if only I could finish thesis and graduate...lol.

I know this is long, but one last thing...I highly recommend taking advantage of Open Figure Drawing Sessions on Fridays and the SCAD library. Make sure you see some of Don Bluth's stuff in the Special Collections (I think it's on the 3rd floor?). You have to go up there and talk to them to see it, it's not in the library catalog, but you have access to it whenever and they let you photograph/scan it. :)

Yea, I just got a peek at some of the collection over at the library yesterday (they had an open house showing). It was pretty awesome to say the least.

I've also talked to people about taking those two courses together and they've warned me quite a lot about Bridget and how strict she is. But over all I'm really looking forward to taking those classes. :D

I used to go to the model sessions a lot more...but I've had to get a part time job and they've given me a shift of Friday which coincides with more than half of the time they have those sessions.
It would be great to meet you before you graduate, if you are still in Savannah of course.

Yeah, I'm not in Savannah currently, but I have to make a few trips down there in order to finish stuff up/submit everything. I'm currently in upstate South Carolina...so maybe :)

I must say I don't know how people can hold down a job and classes there at the same time. So props to you for that.

This is "Francisco" one of the Ecorche that I'm currently making. This is a work in progress and I needed a name to call it in those long nights ..so Francisco seemed natural. haha
