Hey, everyone. My factory scene is all finished, and I finally have a fly-through animation all rendered.

First, some stills:

Here's the high-quality animation (10mb) http://www.waylon-art.com/portfolio/factory01.avi

and a low quality version (4.5mb)

I'll probably add some music and ambient sounds eventually, once I tie it together more with the rest of my portfolio.

Anyway, if anyone has any crits, I'd appreciate hearing them! Hope ya like!

Nice work. Nice use of bumpmaps, only crit is that it appears that its all the same bump map, but its metal, so maybe I should just say frickin awesome.

Wow! Nicely done.
I love the rustiness of it all.

Question for you: What program did you use to compile the animation? I've been trying to use AVI's with Divx 5.1 codecs but I still get color banding and some artifact troubles...

Thanks....

mcampbell: I used a program called VirtualDub to compress it, using "Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V2". (I'm not sure if that codec would be listed the same way in other programs.) I also turned the quality up a little bit from the standard. (default is 3000kbits/sec, I used about 4500, I think.) I had tried divx 5.1 as well, but it just didn't look as nice.

Heh. Of course, I'm not sure WHERE that mpeg4 codec came from. Might have been installed with windows, or with some other software. If you don't have access to it on your computer, let me know, and I'll see if I can track it down.

I think it looks really good, nice modeling, good textures. I think if I were to suggest anything it would be to grime it up even more (tarred metal, patchwork pipes) or use adjust lighting a bit to add more mood (though as far as just presentation lighting its fine).
