View Full Version : A disturbing info from Men's Health Magazine

According to the mag, there are seven single women for every square mile in America. I know that much of American soil is unoccupied, but this is a disturbing news. Seriously, 100% of I met are with somebody. I don't think I've actually talked to a single girl for a while. All the women I encountered, I mean all of them, were either married or in relationship.

So I guess the article is genuine. :(

Well, there are over 3.5 million square miles in the U.S. That ends up as about 25 million single women. Honestly, once I manage to get a career started, I kinda like my chances.

Wikipedia says the population density of the USA is 31 people per square kilometre.
Converting to the imperial system, this gives us 80.3 people per square mile.
Assuming half of all Americans are female, this means 40.1 women per square mile.
7 divided by 40.1 is 0.175, therefore, if Men's Health Magazine is to be trusted, 17.5% of American women are single.

That's a little less than 1 in every 5. Doesn't seem all that low, although these numbers are incredibly rough. Now if you had the breakdown by age, we could then apply the "divide by two and add seven" rule or something like that to determine a better value based on those within your approximate age range. Assuming that the same number of adult women are single at any given age, we can apply that rule and get a result somewhere between 1 in 10 and 1 in 15. Still not terrible. Probably closer to 1 in 10 because you're still on the younger end of the spectrum and it seems pretty safe to say that there are more singles in their 20's and 30's than in their 70's.

Anyway, SCREW STATISTICS. They're too approximate and simple to be much use in a case like this anyway. I just did all that because I like the math. For all you know these single women could be looking at the stats for single men and having similar worries. Forget about it.

If she is single and she's the kind of girl who would leave a good relationship with her current boyfriend for you. Then you are ALWAYS at risk of having someone steal her from you. Hitting on a girl who has a guy is seriously low class anyways.

Right. I don't want to steal a girl from a guy. I am a very non-confrontational person. And I don't want any drama, either.

Mad Cross, I don't want to argue with you, but I think the lounge should be a friendly place and I find that image rather insulting to women in general. It implies that the only value women have is in their appearance and that only a certain small subsection of women (the extremely beautiful) should have any value at all. It's rather depressing.

Well, Katfayheirti, I'm sorry you found it insulting...it wasn't my intent to insult you or anyone else. Rather, I wanted to make a point...that there are actually many single and lonely women out there and it's ridiculous that guys are passing up decent women just because they aren't perfect. Okay, I guess it wasn't a good way to put it...sorry...I didn't think people would be insulted by pictures of happy, overweight women who are obviously having fun.

Okay, to even the odds...

so if there are 7 spare women per mile, what is the percentage of datable/scorable ones,
do they count girls under 18? and whats the cap on this number. do 80 year old widowers count too? are they good looking? do they count mentally challenged people, or what about lesbians.

I agree with the picture of the large women and men. lower your standards and increase your chances. that's no way to live. someone is offended by a picture of fatty women?
everything in life you choose by it's visual appeal, food, cars, houses, people are the same, if you didn't immediatly seperate and classify every person you see then you wouldn't be human, or you would be counter productive to the species. It's perfectly normal to want a healthy breeding partner, yes that means that she can't be morbidly obease. And if you think you cant judge character by appearance, please read the writings of Paul Eckman.

still in the end it doesn't matter, I do just fine. but then I'm not in America. dun dun dun

if a person is single theres generally a reason for it and for a very very small percentage that reason is choice

for everyone else its probably because your too needy, stinky, ugly, fat, stupid, you live with your parents, or people just cant stand to be around you because of your personality.

Wow, talking about yourself here I see.
I think the OTHER single people are actually those who have finished a relationship and not yet met the person with whom they are going to be in a relationship with next. Or they haven't been in a relationship YET. Because I never knew anyone who was born dating.

you may not like me, or the things i have to say but that doesn't make them any less true and usually when things strike a nerve its because they hit a little close to home.

but you know you can toss out personal insults and call names and whatnot but it doesnt change anything it only deflects and at the end of the day if your single and lonely theres probably a reason for that situation.

Eh, I think that even lighthearted jokes can have profound meanings. After all, they are a reflection of our culture. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy them. "Maybe you can just try being bi for a while. Enjoying both ends of the boat can be quite nice."

This just triggered a funny memory. So, in highschool, I used to carpool with this kid who was very macho, and a bit crazy - as in he'd get really angry if he thought another driver was staring, and yell at her. He was a chauvenist, constantly talking of drunk girls passing out at parties, that kind of thing. So, one day, we were discussing AIDS in the car, and he said something really surprising. He said, "I don't blame the gays, that's ridiculous. God didn't do that." For a second I thought this kid might really be enlightened, at least on this one subject. Maybe he could actually realize that diseases occur randomly and it's lunacy to assign blame. Then he went on, "It's the fucking bisexuals we oughta kill, for bringing it over to the straight folk." I've never seen a more perfect example of logic bound by stupidity.
