Painter x quits with lassoo tool.

Hi guys, here I am with yet another request for help and support from the best source on the planet.

I've just installed painter x on my new imac (20" 2.66ghz, 4gb ram) and have found it quits every time I use a selection tool in full screen mode. (command M) Oddly though, it all works fine in normal screen mode.

It's driving me crazy!!! 95% of the time I'm remembering to switch modes, but the times that I forget is wasting hours.

Any help would be most gratefully accepted and I thank you in advance.

This is a known bug with Painter, where it has problems with selections. I can't remember if this was as old as version 8 (or even older). I know though, Painter has had problems for at least 3 versions with selections. Make sure you also have patches installed too.

If you're still getting problems, well the only advice I have is don't use selections in full screen mode.

It seems this bug has finally been solved in Painter 11, or at least Painter is not crashing anymore when doing selections in full screen mode. This used to drive me crazy also earlier. I've owned Painter 8 and X, although I can't remember if the bug was already in 8.

Actually I remember that this was the first thing I tried after installing the demo of Painter 11 (doing Select All in full screen mode), and when Painter crashed I decided not to upgrade. But anyway I did buy the upgrade a few months later and it wasn't until last week that I noticed that doing a selection in the full screen mode doesn't crash Painter 11 anymore. I'd gotten used to always just use the normal window mode but I was always missing the full screen, so I was super happy to find it's working now. Sure there are other issues with Painter 11 (like the super annoying Error 18 that appears randomly) but this one seems to be fixed.

Just a quick thanks to all for your help.

It seems I will just have to get used to not using full screen mode then. Strange that I didn't have the problem with the old Imac, white 17" 1.83 ghz.

Odd piece of software, Painter, for bugs and stuff. Still fantastic though!!!

Another thing to remember is:

Never deselect an active selection made with the Lasso tool by clicking outside the selection. It will (not always) make Painter vanish off the screen.

Instead, use either of the two methods to deselect an active selection:


Ctrl+D (Windows) or Command+D (Mac), or
Select menu > None
