Quick question for all of you artists out there.

Within the past few years I've seen a huge resurgence in the comic book industry from an outsider's perspective. I've recently started avidly reading again and I'm loving the heck out of it. The Comic-Cons and the big blockbuster Marvel movies, and even the indie comics like Scott Pilgrim, seem to be crossing over into mainstream pop culture and media more and more. Being a big fan of many of the artists and writers that whose work I'm reading, I'm wondering if there is a need for agents or if most artists and writers already have them.

I'm asking this because I currently work as a booking agent in the music industry. Not a sleezy cliche industry agent like Hollywood makes most of us out to be, but an agent that is passionate about his bands, helps them grow, and attempts to keep them working. We work with small acts that tour venues that hold 50 people to artists that are selling out huge 20,000 person amphitheaters.

Do writers and artists commonly have agents and is there a larger need for them right now?

I just keep thinking when I am reading the 5 or 6 series before bed each night, man I would really like to be a part of this and help spread his/her talent to others. I also think that the music/comic crossover right now is so prevalent.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. This obviously isn't meant for me to "sell" you on anything - just curious if there's a need for more of these services.
