Need Help: Acrylic / Oil based mediums

Although I can do speed paints and detailed paints in photoshop as fast as I want. I don't seem capable of applying the same methods with acrylic and oils.

I'm desperately seeking critiques and advice on how to improve in those two areas. Any advice or a mentor would be awesome.

#24 from the Venture Brothers. Just a quick doodle to try out some color schemes before I move on to a more detailed plan I had for him and #21.

I think there's a good mix of muddy colors, and then there's a bad mix of them... Not sure what kind this is, but I don't like it all too much, lol. I don't seem to get the same level or richness as I do with photoshop or prisma pencils.

As Schmid would say, muddy colors are simply the wrong temperature. The colors are generally ok. The "richness" you speak of, if you had only spoken of photoshop, could be a real thing- working with light and working with pigment CANNOT be compared. But prismacolor pencils? You are working with pigments there, and wax is not the cleanest of mediums. If you want, brighter colors, use brighter colors. Make your blacks more on the blue side to contrast with the warmth of the Monarch's colors.

Thanks for the crit. Prisma's have always been the easier of the two mediums to handle, and mixing them normally is a breeze, but when it comes to doing one or the other then that's were the complication begins.

Think you could give some visuals on exactly what you mean? I think I understand what you're saying, but visuals are normally the seal of approval for me. :D
