TEEN CHALLENGE 70


The Rules:
Anyone ages 13-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline. Please host your image on a remote image-hosting site instead of uploading it to the CA server. This makes it much easier to transfer it to the poll thread.

The Topic:
"Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec Serpent God of the Wind". The legendary serpent headed god is yours to draw and bring it to life!

- You can represent Quetzalcoatl any way you like, as long as it is somehow connected as a mythical being/deity.

Question:
Can we simply paint Hernán Cortés? After all there's the myth that the indios revered Cortés as the god Quetzalcoatl who finally returned from the eastern waters to his people, making it one of the mayor reasons for their downfall. Especially since his "human form" is that of a bearded white guy ;)

(actually I don't want to do that myself, just asking out of curiosity)

Hernán Cortez was seen as Quetzalcoatl by Montezuma. You can picture Hernan as Quetzalcoatl. But you should portrait Quetzalcoatl the way you see him if you read the myth. It's the god of wind, sometimes seen as the god of death and resurrection, one day bound to return to earth and this would mean the end of the Aztec civilization.

It's the way you pretend this, if you see Hernán Cortez in this as well, then by any means draw him!

Oh, and for those who like a little source to use:

The "Quetzal" bird is a beautiful bird, the feathers of this bird is said to be the same as on Quetzalcoatl.So maybe you can use it as a nice reference.\?

Here's an idea. Don't have the wacom or even a mouse at the moment so this was done with the touch pad on my mac. Who needs a mouse anyway...

Neat style you're working with there! And wow, a touch pad!?!?!? The only thing I can think of is that there doesn't seem to be a uniform light source. On the torso, it looks like it's coming from the left, but other than that, it's a bit confusing.

went for that nifty "END OF THE AZTEC EMPIRE UPON RETURN" molarchy... and decided that B&W was the swift way forth...
and the wings are black because of that end-time's the sky is dark idea.... and i got tired after having to do them again after my comp fell over itself and toook photoshop with it...

Auncer: I really like the style you did yours in. I really does make me thing of the runes. The way the trees follow the line of the wings bothers me a bit.

Jerik: Looks good! Only thing I would do would be to make all the fonts match, and move the bar down to the bottom. Not only will the white show up more on the darker area there, but it'll detract less from the creature.

Seferian - Love the composition of your piece.
Ssh - O___o I can't even draw stick figures with a pad...
Jerik - Fffff, GOD! That is awesome, man! It really stands out. I'd maybe suggest only a little piont of colour in the eye, or maybe in the eclipse, but that's just personal taste. Well done! (though I agree with the suggestion of moving the bar a bit downwards)
Pixie Trick - I like the choosing of colours and the birds, but there's something in the torso that doesn't seem quite right... I think it's the angle of the head in relationship to the rest, it doesn't look very natural.
Namien - I like how it's looking so far. Hope you can finish it in time. (Hmm... looks like it's about to eat something!)

Well, first of all I have to dissappoint you guys since I´m no longer able to continue keeping up the Teen Challenge. How much I´d love to i´m simply unable to do so because just recently I´ve moved out of my own home and went to a city far away. Because of this I need to sign a contract to be able to have internet acces. This is a problem since you need to be 18 to sign it and since i´m not, I cannot visit ConceptArt.org on a daily basis. I can highly visit this site once or twice in a month.

I´m very sorry for the holdup this has caused, but since I don´t have any internet connection for a long while I cannot upkeep the Teen Challenge.

And pijus, I understand your point of view and I would be angered myself now this happened but I´m afraid I can´t help it...


I hope I´m able to return one day, but for now I have to say my goodbyes...
