hey guys, I have a windows probelm which I still can fix. I installed windows xp media center, something seemed wrong so I went to try installing it again then I realised everything was okey so I did not start the installation but it had the time to load some stuff.

Now when I boot the computer it gives me two choose of windows, one which is the good version and one which is the incomplete version and the incomplete version which was secound is by default selected so I hve 3 sec to switch windows.

I checked my boot,ini file and I have this

Boot Loader]
Timeout=5
Default=C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT
[Operating Systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windo
ws XP Media Center Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT\BOOTSECT.DAT="Installation de Microsoft Windows XP Professionnel

I did the thing to detect any bad windows by doing msconfig but it did not find anything

and it seems that I cant find the boot.ini file physicaly again even whit doing unhide the file.

Please if you guys know the file it woould be great cuz now I always have to stay in front of the computer while it opens.

You should reformat the HD, and reinstall it one time correctly.. XP takes ages to install, so be patient and don't think the installation hanged or something, just wait for it to install properly, even if takes a couple of hours.

I had a similar problem when I tried reinstalling windows. If you find that your new windows installation is causing problems with the old one, I would follow Gringo's advise in doing a clean install. However, if that is not the case, to change the OS booting default and change how much seconds the list of OS is being displayed, do the following:

-Go to system properties (right click on My Computer -> Properties), and look in the "Advanced" tab.
-Look for "Startup and Recovery" and click on Settings. There you can choose which OS is the default to load and the duration of the display of the OS list.
No more need to be in front of the computer when it boots :D

Don't you have to partition them separately? If that's the case, you should just be able to delete the bad one with your installation disk.
