Hey

This is the WIP thread for Team ASAD - comprised of myself, and munkes from the 'A Sketch A Day' thread.

This is my first idea for this challenge:

Basically I am imagining a high fantasy setting with a bit of a twist; everyone is morbidly obese. (can't wait to draw the obligatory scantily clad sorceress...)
The difference between good and evil, being determined by what they eat - and maybe when (ala Mogwai/Gremlins) - the physical impact being more pronounced than in real life, almost to the level of mutation.

The good guy here sticks to hunting and eating game/venison etc. while the evil version has tasted something forbidden (maybe human crackling?) - and degenerated into a bloodthirsty, cannibalistic monster (who is even fatter).

Heres some more idea doodling.
This time I am thinking that maybe the evil side, are the ones who forsake food, altogether.
So maybe in this world, where food has such a huge importance, and is directly linked to powers - denying yourself that, will surely lead to the dark side...

I keep painting naked bodies, when what I should do is some actual character design. With this one I was trying to figure out how to make my character obese(/humorous) though elegant (inspired by barocque painting style; which obviously failed here).

I have to get on with some actual design now.

Hehe that is nice that last one - but as you said, not very 'character designed'.
Here are some more ideas of mine.

@ Ninjerk: Thanks for your comment - Maybe I will add just that! I was also thinking a loot bag, full of food =)

A quick sketch for a Fat Fantasy Brawler/Gladiator. Probably Evil.

Can't seem to get the pose right, and I wasn't happy with the one I posted above, so tried some other options. Im still not happy with it.

After a bit of a break from this challenge, Munkes and me have decided to try and grind our way to the finish, during this weekend.

I have settled on the good/evil rogue, and to open the ball, here are two quick composition sketches.
I am fairly satisfied with them, and will almost vertainly be working on the illustrations, based on these.

@ Munkes: Welcome home - can't wait to see your stuff!

Here's a sketch of my fat mage whom I'm considering turning into a druid. She's supposed to wear more clothes, but that will come later.
I don't think the balance is quite right yet. The right thigh is a bit too dominating.

Lookin good! Your anatomy and proportions are so much better than mine.
Really looking forward to the evil one.

Heres my progress so far.
I have tried to make their different personalitites come through, in their poses, as well as facial expressions. I think that the similar lighting - it being night on both - might hamper the differentiation.
Maybe I can bring that out with colour.

Up for a bit of the ol' switcheroo soon?

@ ALH: Thanks for your comment. At this moment I feel like its doubtful, if we can finish on time. We are going to do our best though!

You guys have some good stuff here, I especially like the two sketches on the top of the thread with the ranger concept and the fat+skinny witch - the contrast between those two was great. Rather sad you guys didn't push them as they were.

I recognize the Craig Mullins fat man as one of your references, that guy is elite and makes for great inspirational material given your fatness topic :) If you go to his website you'll find a number of works similar the same character (or looks close enough...) http://www.goodbrush.com/

Good luck, hope you guys get to finish.
