Just wondering if any of you share some of the same maladies I do? Man, it's the worst! You feel dead tired, don't feel like doing anything, yet you can't get to sleep or don't feel like you've slept at all when you do. I should have put an option for more than one on the poll, but if you have more than one list them below.

I have sleep apnea, RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), and PLMS (Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome) and I HATE EVERY ONE OF THEM!!! GRRRRR!

I sleep, on the average, 3-4 hours a night... I find I feel better, concentrate more and generally function at a "higher" level...

Every 3-4 weeks I have a 8 hour sleep stretch...

That's my story.

Hey Stale,

That's pretty much the state I'm in.

Although I get a real "tired burst" @ around 8-9pm.

i sleep 3-4 hours a night as well during the week, lately only 2- 3 hours.

as long as i get some dream time in I good to go the next day.

i realized a while back that no matter how much i sleeo i still wake up tired. so whats the point of sleeping more than you need.

i would rather wake up tired and have a new pice of art i made last night, than wake up refreshed and have no art to wake up to.

but i burn my candel at both ends,
actualy i dont even do that, I take the candeel and break aoo the was off of it, then i tie the wick in a little ball and burn it all at once.

as long as we are on the subject of sleep disorders, i often wake up with sleep poralisis. i can open my eyes slightely but my body is paralyzed. it feel s like an alien abduction, scarry stuff, only happens every month or so . anybody esle get those??

Its really strange. I can sleep for 8 hours a night during the weekdays, wake up and still tired. I can sleep 4 hours on a friday night, wake up saturday and feel hyper. I mean, whats the difference between waking up on the weekend and the weekday?

Android: I read about that in my psychology book. Theres a 15 minutes during your sleep where you body secretes enzymes that paralyzes you so you don't act out your dreams. I think. But, I had that happen to me. I woke up, a huge flash of light came thru the window and hit me in the eyes. I winced and shut my eyes and opened them back up. And there was this angel in all black walking to the left, and blinked and it was on the other side of the room walking right and it stopped. I tried to move but as soon i did, the flash of light hit me again, and I couldn't move, i couldn't speak either. Man, it was so freaking scarey. I wouldn't have a problem with it if supermodels came into my dreams, only to "wake up" and see them "acutally" in my room.

im sure that youll find the majority of artists are going to be "sleep deprived"

often my brain is way to active for me to sleep no matter how tired i am...

interesting stuff
i often have many thoughts in my head when i goto bed, so its hard to sleep. it's been getting gradually easier over the years tho, i guess.

i wonder, is it particularly unhealthy to sleep so little, 3-4 hrs a night? i haven't even thought about doing that.

I get those sleep paralysis moments to Android.

I used to get em everyday, but not anymore. What happens to me is that I somehow realize that Im dreaming, and that Im laying in my bed, but once I have realized this, I can't wake up from the dream. So I can't move, and it feels so very empty. Sometimes my brains trick me into thinking that I have woken up and everything is fine, but in reality Im still asleep until I actually wake up, and notice that I was asleep the whole time.

Stupid dreams!

I guess I'm breaking the norm on this one. I generally get about 5-8 hours a night. I just crash out suddenly so when that happens i go to sleep...its kinda wierd. I wonder if it is normal for people to just be hyper one moment but then suddenly be really really tired.

also if i ever try to sleep early to get more sleep i just end up thinking about stuff and get even less sleep cause then i have to draw it or think more about it.

oh and i roll around alot when i sleep. I remember one time i woke up and was so entangled in the blankets that i couldn't really move.

you guys sleep not so much, i get at least 7 (12 on weekends) i heard that as you got older you generally sleep less (im not implying that you're a bunch of old guys or something )

AnarchyAo2, maybe it has something to do with motivation, weekends are more fun than weekdays usually

sleep paralysis; yes monthly , often with hallucinations similar to what AnarchyAo2 described, more vague though or sometimes of people i know . i have a feeling that sleep paralysis is more dream than actually being awake though, i've had sp sometimes while not in the room i fell asleep in.

does anyone else have lucid dreams btw? those ones where you're aware of dreaming and you can do things to your dream

Yeah I have trouble sleeping. I can go to bed at anytime from 9pm - 1am and I still wont get to sleep untill 3am. Then I'll wake up at 6am and feel super tired, as a result I can't make myself get out of bed but I can't go back to sleep either so I remain in a half sleep half dream state, in this state I have some really weird dreams. After thats all over I wake up at 11am very drowsy and sometimes with a pain in the neck or a headache. I thought this was related to my depression, I started on medication for my depression, now my depression has lifted but the not sleeping and wierd dreams haven't :bash:.

holy crap, I can't believe you mentioned the sleep paralysis thing... I've never had it happen until 2 days ago. It was one of the scariest things to happen to me in a long time, i thought i was dead or something. I just remember looking at my sheets and feeling like there was someone standing there watching me... but i couldn't move. thought i saw a hand waving in front of my face too. jesus that was nuts. glad I'm not the only one.

thats strange. i haven ever had that paralysis thing. i usually dont remember my dreams but withing the last few months i am beginning to remember them.

it is interesting though...you who sleep only 4 hours!!

too much caffeine and drugs i tell you. its not normal.

i need at least 7 hours a day to run normally! some times i take naps haha

Now that I say i havent had sleep paralysis i most likely will ;)

Sweet dreams!

I have the most amazing lucid dreams. Given absolutely no obligations (i.e. summer/vacation time) it seems that my natural sleeping order is something like 5am to 3-5 pm.

My record is more than 24 hours, but that was after a severe migraine (and I get for real atomic bomb headaches, like, blinded in both eyes by pressure [my vision gets all purple, its just like pushing on both eyes with your thumbs], then severe nausea and vomiting, then I pass out; hasn't happened in awhile though [knock on wood]).

Anywho, my dreams are always vivid, I always know I'm dreaming, and I can't really control what happens, but I can control myself perfectly, and many times I will 'rewind' to replay good parts or do things over if they turn out dumb. They are also almost always (seemingly) hours long action epics starring me as the hero. so whatever you want to get out of that about me as a person :D

I'm in the majority on this one. I only sleep about 3-4 hours per night. I keep myself busy to the point of exhaustion and I still only sleep a few hours a night. Another reason may be because I'm nocturnal. I HATE the daytime, I enjoy being up at night.

I usually get about 4-6 hours of sleep a night... could easily get more but I wake up right before I need to leave for work. I stay awake all night and even if I feel really tired I push past it until I'm awake again... when I go to bed I'm in a dead sleep 2 minutes after I get under the covers... I never lay in bed and try to go to sleep.

When I was younger I used to sleep and move around all night long and I'd end up getting myself into a cacoon with with blankets and when I'd wake up my hair would look like it went through a blender... but since highschool I sleep perfectly still... I get into bed into the same comfortable position, which is on my right side, and stay in that position until I wake up. And what sucks about my sleeping is that I NEVER can remember my dreams... maybe once every half a year... literally. I mean, I know my dreams kick-ass but when I wake up I can't remember any of 'em at all.

I get about 4 hours a sleep on average. I find I'm generally never tired until I wake up. Usually for me to fall asleep I need to grab a book and read for about half an hour. If I don't do this, I'll stay awake 24 hours straight more than likely. It's weird.

I had some weird sleep problems awhile ago, don't exactly know what this one is, but I used to be asleep, but people watching me would think I was awake. My roommates came in one night because my TV was on loud. They saw me sitting up in bed wide awake watching it, they asked me to turn it down and according to them, I was just watching it and said OK. I had no recollection of this though, and I thought they were joking with me. But when I stayed with the parents over the holiday's, the same episodes happened there. It's weird and probably not a good sign :)

I've been unemployed for quite many years now. I can sleep as much as I want, which is really nice.
Normally I sleep for 8-12hrs. There's periods of 2-3hrs of sleep and compensation with vast amounts of coca cola, and there's days when I sleep for 16 hrs or even more.
Since I always stay up longer than than I should and sleep longer than I should, my days are something like 24.5-26hrs. This means I rotate my sleeping pattern and get less days per year...

Someone told me the paralysis thing is a witch or old hag that sits on your chest so you choke. Sometime ppl even see the hag, or a spectre of some sort, watching you.
google for old hag paralysis or something, there's plenty of info on the subject.

Wow...I guess my hunch was right in that many have trouble with sleep.

Android (and others): I recently had an overnight sleep test at a new doctor I've been going to at the Center for Sleep Medicine near me. It was really fascinating to sit down and go over the results with the doctor. Everything from brain waves to what position I was sleeping in. Anyway, one of the initial questions was if I had these moments of paralysis, which fortunately I don't, so it is a valid sleeping disorder. You may be able to get treatment, even through whatever health plan you have if that's possible. I'm still in the middle of getting treatment for my various problems. I can't even remember a single time I've ever not been tired. I can count on one hand how many times in my whole life I can actually say I've felt rested. So annoying!

The lucid dreaming thing is a very interesting topic. I've been trying to train myself to control my dreams. There are little techniques you can employ to make it happen. I started keeping a dream journal too which is interesting and helpful for this as well. There's a great article my brother found on techniques to improve lucid dreaming techniques. I'll try and send him over to this thread to post it if anyone's interested.

My school days are over. I'm happy to say that I can sleep as much as I want usually getting 7-8hrs a day. I can only get to sleep around 4-5am which I always think is quite unhealhty but that's when I get most work done usually. I'm still trying to readjust my sleeping habits.

I roll in bed a lot during my sleep too, waking up with a stiff neck, my blankets and bed sheets all messed up. Is there a reason for this? I always thought its because of the hot weather and it gets quite hot in my room.

6 hours is cool for me. It really depends on which crappy job I'm working while still going to college. Sometimes I come home so exhausted that I don't even what to do any art work.

I need 8 hours of sleep to feel good in the morning, to much or too little will ruin me.

However, i have to get up at 5:40 am for my commute and I can never make myself go to sleep earlier than 12:00 am so I end up sleeping 5 hour 40 minutes or so. I usually end up almost dazing off in class until the first break and then I am cool after that.

I sleep until 12:00 in the morning on the weekend though so I make up for it.

im usually in bed by about 5 am - then i try to sleep in till about 10-11ish. This has been a really bad habit lately, as by the time i get up, get showered and dressed, check my emails and moderate for about an hour on CA.org, its like early afternoon, and i cant get a full day in (of going out, work, w/e). My gf is annoyed cos we dont go to the beach as much any more hahaha.

My mum is a counsellor and shes done a lot of research into dreams/sleep patterns etc. She encouraged me a while back to keep a dream journal (insisting it wasnt girly hahaha) so i could remember my dreams more. I sorta forgot about it till now, im gonna start writing dreams in my sketchbook :D.

my sleep disorder = conjunctive itis

That is if i get not enough sleep, or too much sleep (ie any amount of sleep that is what im not normally used too), then i wake up and my eyes are literally stuck together. The muck (sleep0 that builds up during the night becomes so bad that i get itchy, sore, gunky eyes for the whole day. GROSS HUH! I blindly stumble to the bathroom, and i really cant open my eyes till the end of the shower cos they hurt too much.

As for lucid dreams: no WAY! i dun wanna have em. Maybe when im older but......if i can get to the point of actually remembering my dreams, the last thing i wanna do is control em. Some of my best ideas come from the occasional dreams i remember, and thats cos i have no control over em - my brain has no inhibitions and the ideas just flow.

Anyhow, ima start my dream diary again.....peace all!

I kinda got the same thing as Nimrod..

Before i wake up I'm usually in this dream and i can control it to some extend.. and it's usually with people I know but the setting and stuff that's going on doesn't make sense. When something happens in my house, the dog starts barking or someone makes noise down the hole I get this push back to reality and can't get into the dream again.. I can ignore some noises around the house but if it's too loud i can't go back to the dream

I usually forget what the dream was about in the day but i remember it when I wake up cause i wasn't actually deep asleep but more in this half awake state..

excuse my grammar :p

who has more nightmares than dreams? I had a recurring nightmare because i live in a long house, single story, and all down one side of the house its just open floor to ceiling windows facing the pool etc, with no blinds. Not only that, but it backs on to a bushland reserve thingo, so its not exactly the busiest lil spot. I had this recurring nightmare where i would be sitting on the kitchen bench talking on the kitchen fone which is right near the windows, and id see the shape of someone walking towards the windows outside and then itd sort of fade away and then it would come up again up the hallway (its a long house where all the rooms open into each other - no doors) and id just see the shadow walk down and all the lights were off, and there were no light switches. But the person wouldnt hurt me, theyd just walk past and brush against my foot and walk out the back door. The dream ended there.

About 2 months ago (around the time i stopped remembering my dreams) i was sitting in the kitchen and we had a blackout and there was someone in the backyard. They walked towards the window and then say me in the kitchen and ran off towards the front of the house. I was alone and so fucking shitscared, i think thats why i dont dream any more - my brain has sorta shut it off to stop the recurring nightmare. Itd be ok if the nightmares came after wot happened, but the other way around...freaky.

So if premonitionary dreams count as a sleep disorder, put me down for the show!

I recently got over a severe bout of insomnia during the break, mainly caffeine and idea/excitement induced. When I can remember my dreams they're usually reality based and include alot of what I see on tv. My most memorable dream would have to be one where I rode a donkey with 1 leg to my friend's house, like a pogo stick... and then stole his computer because i wanted his warcraft 2 cd (yes this was a long time ago) and then on the way home, i rode by a diner and could hear and see very well inside, where "lyle" from wings was taking a butter knife and cutting a large gash in his forearm saying "and THAT's what being in a gang is like"... and i remember thinking, "WELL, i'd better not join a gang!".

Wow, I'm surprised how many of you have had the sleep paralysis/night terror thing...I've had it about five times, and they were truly some of the most terrifying instances in my life. I couldn't open my eyes, couldn't move...but it felt like the sheets and blankets of my bed were snaking around me, twisting, pulling, and tearing at my body like a thousand grasping hands; I also heard whispering, which i couldn't make out but somehow i interpreted it as truly vile and sinister. I really felt like I was being attacked by something. They usually end with a great sense of building pressure in the chest and head, a POP! kind of sound, and then I am awake...when I was around 12 or so this happened and as soon as I could move I ran into my parents room, sure that something was chasing me and I had just barely escaped.
It's funny, Prometheus, I can totally see how people could interpret this thing as the "hag" myth; our interpretation of the experience is largely based on popular opinion. If I would have been around in more superstitous times, I probably would have chalked it up to being ridden by the hag; now, in a more scientific era, sleep patterns and enzymes are the more believable culprit. Either way, it's a truly freaky experience. It's also one of the leading contenders for explaining the "alien abduction" experiences people have, with the bright lights some have mentioned, the grabbing, and the whispering ...
God, with all this talk of sleep terrors, I really hope i don't have one tonight...

i really need someones advice. i go to bed late ( around 6 or 7 in the morning ) and am usually up before 11. i feel fine, but when i try to sit at the table and draw i just feel impatient, frustrated, lazy, un-inspired, you name it. i dont know if it is because of my sleep apnea or not but i was wondering if someone could tell me how to cure this cuz its really fudging up my drawing practice.

Metaphysiks: If you haven't already, you should get evaluated like I did and take steps toward treatment. Possibly a mask for your apnea. If you already have done that then you may need a follow-up visit to address any other problems. I guess my encouragement to you is cover all the bases when trying to get energy back...diet, sleep, maybe even your blood pressure.

I'm in the middle of this type of thing right now myself. I don't sleep well and even when I think I have I still find myself nodding off at my desk in the afternoon. Of course I have a bunch of other things pulling at me, family of 5, etc., so that may have a little to do with it! LOL! But it's really, really annoying. And it affects all the rest of your life as well, including our creative power and drive. So I feel your pain man! Some people have commented that they can get by with just a couple hours of sleep, and that's great (I envy them!), but I don't think it's the norm. Get it checked out again if your not satisfied!

Iīve had 2 instances of sleep paralyzis with hypnagogic hallucinations. Scary, since I had no idea at the time of what it was. Both involving aliens and a rod put somewhere, ahem... The thing is that you can only move your eyes, (so it seems) and see your room filled with the scariest shit you will ever see. A friend of mine is worse of. He has it every time he falls asleep or wakes up sleeping on his back, meaning; pretty much every day. The pain can sometimes be so extreme that he actually thought he was not going to survive, and he just gave up, waiting to die, only to let him live in the knowledge of the pain that COULD fry his body every morning and midnight. 5% of the population has sleep paralyzis and a few percent of these again have hallucinations. But not many have it so often as him. You can see some pretty insane stuff. He has been attacked by an annoying pacman munching on his blanket, torched his skin off in an inferno, penetrated by a laserbeam, been attacked by a bishop, an axe-man midgets, vampires, God, Satan, aliens, small green goblins and a crowd of passangers armed with chainsaws(while sitting on the subway half asleep. When he awoke, people stared at him as if he was a madman. You get panic-breath and sound really fucked up to others. )

Anyway, he has found out that you can take brainaltering chemicals made for strong mental illnesses, or sleeping and eating in a regular pattern. He wont take the chemicals, as they have a side-effects as long as rolls of toiletpaper, so he tries to sleep and eat regularly. This reduces the frequenzy of paralysis quite effectively. He also has asked me to get a friend of mine to make an eye tracker which can give him strong electroshock on a combination of eye movements. (He can move his eyes when he has the paralysis.) He could tape his arm to the ceiling, but it would not be too easy to sleep with, hehe! Really shouldnīt laugh, as it is a foe of Pain lurking every day.

Lucid dreaming is some cool shit: To dream and know it. Persistence of willpower can make you excert influence on everything within your dream. i usually run about killing left and right, making great landscapes and extreme buildings, and i found a very useful tip to not wake up when you discover that you ARE dreaming, and your dreamworld starts to fade into consciousness: Spin like a ballerina, and you will create a new and fresh environment. You are truly God, when you realize you can push your unconsciousness in certain directions with ideas and thoughts.

thats some scary ass shit! ive never known anyone else who had that.. it almost always happens to me when im sleeping in a car or just in strange places in general.
i fucking dread that shit..
when i wake out of it i usually leap up flailing my arms, just like a drowning person emerging from water..

appearantly im not as weird as i thought on the insomnia thing.. i get about 3 to 4 hours of sleep every night as well.
its been that way since i was a kid.
i dont like taking pills either, but ocasionally i will take melatonin if i just have to get some rest..

It's good to know that I'm not the only one with sleeping disrders. When still at university and the first years of working I used to get 9 hours per night and that was perfect! With working time taking over my life I tried to keep the amount of free time I was used to - and cut off night's sleep hour by hour. By now I'm down to 5-6 hours on weekdays (longer at the weekends) and I feel that it's not enough for me.

I'm great at falling asleep at the cinema, at theatres, while role-gaming with friends, while watching TV and while reading. Especially the first three occasions can be very embarrassing, to say the least.

On the other hand, when experiencing stress periods at my job I have immense problems of sleeping through. I.e., I fall asleep quite easily at say, 1am, but wake up at about 3:30. Then I can't sleep anymore till 5 or 6 and am dead tired when the alarm goes off at 7. I hate this, and it usually goes on for several weaks and I get more and more nervous which leads to less sleep even more.

I also know that Movement Syndrome, like in my dream stumbling over a stair and actually moving my legs, which wakes me up. Or I experience the classical "fall", which makes me move too - and wakes me up as well.

Someone mentioned that it makes a difference whether it's week days or weekends with how much sleep you are happy. I find that as well but it was stronger when I was still at school...

I normaly sleep from 7 to 8 hours a day but many times when i get back from work i feel really tired (i donīt have a physical work) i donīt feel like doing anything and feel like sleeping again. I can sleep another 3 or 4 hours and then after being up for a while iīm back to bed again.
Iīm started to get worried about this beacuse iīm not able to do nothing since i never feel like doing nothing.
I donīt know if itīs an sleep disorder or depression or a physic problem or what the fucking hell is it, but I definetively have to check myself or i feel that iīll loose my entire life.

I forgot saying that thereīre sometimes that sleeping 2 hours after being all the nigth hanging out with friends i feel fresh like a lettuce.

I find i function best at about 6 hours of sleep a night, but usually run on closer to 4. I havent had full blown sleep paralysis, at least it isnt an unpleasant experience. I feel like im half awake, but my body isnt awake, or even totally attached to me. this happens more often when im falling asleep than when i wake up, and i abruptly fall back into my body, as if someone were tipping my bed so ill fall out. This is usually the same time when i am most creative, my brain seeming to be able to run more intricate creative processes and stronger visualization. Its so hard to record these moments and ideas though, they often dissapear back into the aether....

Ive taken to always having a notebook or sketchbook next to my bed and often hop up in the middle of the night to work on something before the inspiration goes away.

I havent had full blown lucid dreaming either, though all the times i remember my dreams, which isnt often, i distinctly remember knowing i was dreaming during the dream, but not wanting to change anything, just being aware of the flow and content to see where i takes me. I very often feel this way when im awake, in particularly present zen moments.....

It seems most of us are nocturnal and dont sleep much, I wonder if it has something to do with the creative way our brains are wired?

I can never force myself to sleep early, though I want to because I want to get up early and have lots of the day left, but my mind is too active and I want to do lots of stuff. It's often hard to fall to sleep too.

In the weekends I often sleep like 10 hours, but I feel weird then. Tired and sluggish. When I use my alarmclock and get only 4-6 hours of sleep I have a hard time getting up but I end up being fitter the rest of the day then when I had a long sleep.

Never had that paralyses thing though.

Close to Fellah, something like three to four hours per day/night. Sometimes, three days without sleep, the time where I'm more productive. I think I'm definitively insomniac. :(

im a bit of an insomniac too. Its not that i necisarily want more or less sleep, its not really a priority for me. Its pretty damn hard for me to fall asleep unless im ass beat, like after 12 hours of work, or snowboarding all day or something. I guess i should have clicked insomnia, but i also have RLS so i hit that up. Its impossible for me to sleep without my feet rubbing together. Ive rubbed off all the hair on the tops of my feet from that. I dont necisarilly suffer from it, its just part of my habits; something that ive been doing all my life (probably even in utero). Its a comfort thing mainly. It drives the girlfriends nuts though.
whatever beotch, sleep on my other side.

i also cant sleep unless im on my right side. Ive pretty much stress-fractured my entire shoulder because of it, i cant raise my arm above a 45 degree angle unless its directly in front or behind me.
shrug.

I get plenty of sleep, but probably 5 out of the 7 days of the week, I wake up to stories of how I tried to get busy with my girlfriend in the middle of the night. I did some searching and apparently it's called sleep sex. We have a perfectly normal sex life, but sometimes during the night I'll do naughty things and have no recollection of it in the morning. I'm so dirty.

as long as we are on the subject of sleep disorders, i often wake up with sleep poralisis. i can open my eyes slightely but my body is paralyzed. it feel s like an alien abduction, scarry stuff, only happens every month or so . anybody esle get those??

I believe I do. Sometimes it's because I sleep in weird positions that constrict by blood, so I can only move at the joints if at all. One time I woke up and couldnt breathe for a few minutes. Err, I think I could, but I my ears were plugged or something and I couldn't feel it. Weird stuff.

Here's something: Have you ever laid down, then blinked, and it was the next morning? No tiredness, no dreams, it's like you didnt even move. You just BLINK, and bam, next day. That happens to me every 4 or 5 years. I think one time it happened in two consecutive days. I love those days.

Anyways, I'll bet I'm a little insomniac because it takes me a few hours lying there to go to sleep. I'm pressed to go to bed at 10:30, and iwake up at 7 so I have plenty of waking up time. I leave the house at 8:30 and get home around 5:30.

I'm a student though.

On the note of short hours, I find I have more energy and wake up earlier the later I go to bed. If you are cramming and have a tired spell, try this: Take a 20 minute nap. NO MORE. There is some crazy crap called "Sleep intertia", where after 20 minutes you go into a deeper sleep where your body is ready to stay relaxed. Good luck with that.

Oh yeah! I just remembered- One time I spent the night at my friends house, and when I woke up, not only could I not move, but everything was spinning and there were polkadots and colors everywhere, I remember saying very loudly WHERE AM I?
And I was so hungry... he didnt wake up until 2 hours later, and I felt like my head was going to explode. I just sat there thinking "Am I on drugs?" Because It seemed so trippy. Weird stuff.

When you feel trapped in the dream, and you know your in the dream, I'm usually able to warp them as I want. Like, as soon as I figure it out, I stop everything- Time stops, it's so awesome. Then I see light coming out of my mouth and eyes and ears and crap, and I scream WAKE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP and I do. It's odd.

I also get that movement thing, sometimes when I "sort of" wake up in the morn, then drift to sleep for a few, I wake up jumping or kicking my leg. It happens when I'm awake too, it freaks me out.

Seeing how much I wrote I feel lucky and diseased at the same time. I get like, 9 hours of sleep, but so many weird things happen.

I wake up around 6:00 am and go to sleep around 11:00, but as android said, no matter what time I go to sleep I feel exactly the same. I go to sleep feeling great, I wake up with a headache, tired as hell, and just basically feeling like shit. It aint fair :(

You guys made go turn on the hall light with all your talk of scary stuff... Only sleep disorder I hae is that I have to fall asleep to a commentary track on a dvd, so bad that if im in a hotell, I bring my computer. If I have deadlines and/or a project that is fun, I also have difficulties sleeping, feels like my mind is overclocked.

I suffer from sleep paralysis. :) for about 10 years now, about 5~10 times each month on average. I guess I am used to it, but it had to be the most terrifying moments of my life... everytime it hits me it's with some new fear.. but afterwards I forget about it. hehe

I wake up 2 to 3 times in the night which takes about 15 mins (not sure) to go back to sleep. I also seem very thirsty during this tims. i dont know if this is a sickness, maybe I should cut my sleeping hours too.

technology keeps me awake.. tv.. computers...even lights. I cant fall asleep these days until by body sends a signal to my brain saying "f'k it, we're taking a break whether you like it or not".

I went backpacking a few years ago, and before i left i was an insomniac (or a "night owl, as i call it), when i came back i was one, but for the entire duration of the trip, when the sun went down, i got tired and fell asleep. I would awake when the sun rised and felt amazing. I miss that...

I get 7-8 every night, have had the sleep paralysis terror a couple times, and used to do a lot of lucid dreaming, but has anyone hurt themselves while sleeping?

I was about 14 when I awoke with a start in the night; something had brushed against my outstretched arm. When I went to feel it, it was a FOOT! I was now fully awake and recoiled away. I looked at the disheveled covers, but no one was there. I touched the foot and then started to feel up the leg, with the horrible realization that it was MY FOOT! It was completely numb from the hip and took some effort to move it back to where it was supposed to be (it wasn't responding to my commands). I managed to get it pointing away from me and after about 10 minutes, the pins and needles started. It was some pretty good pain for about another 10 minutes, then another hour or so before I got back to sleep. In the morning, my mom (a nurse) had no explanantion (and I had a long time to wait for the internet). I limped for a week.

I fall asleep on my arm some times, goes completley useless and i cant move it. I have no feeling it it either. I hate the sensation, and if I move to hastily, I could quite easily dislocate it without feeling a thing. Then of course the blood comes back slowly, and Im in for a world of pain for a few mins.

I once woke up just a second before a big black bird attacked me. I managed to grab it and hold it back. It was a hard fight and we ended up on the floor rolling around. I swear that thing wanted to eat my face. Turns out it was my own hand i was fighting against. Once there was a rat sitting on the floor starring at me. I didnt move for about an hour because i was too scared and when i finally turned on the light it was a sock... Never have nightmares and weird stuff anymore, but faceeaters, dark shadowmen and all that i have had in so many different ways. Worst period was when i was about 20, every night when i went to sleep there was a dude standing in the corner just starring at me like the rat. He didnt move or say anything, just starring. I used to drink alot just to fall asleep. Finally one night i jumped up, ran towards him screaming and started hitting him. I hurt my head pretty bad on a door, lol. He never came back after that. 3 weeks later the guy in the next room killed himself btw. Scary shit.

I generally sleep around 3-4am everyday now and wake up around 8am. My sleeping patterns are fucked up, but I find that my tiredness doesn't affect my creativity at all, in fact I'm usually more productive as I dont chirp with other people and just do my work all day.

Dogfood: I had a similar experience when i was little, there was this little toybear i had on a shelf in my room and when i woke up i saw that it stared right at me with real large white eyes. That scared the shit out of me..

I got some sleeping disorders I think, can't sleep until I'm really tired. And that's about 12-3 am if I don't do some workout or something other that makes me tired.

Had a weird dream tonight by the way. I was an rocket engineer and i had an underground base at my grandfathers place and launched away rockets across the sea. But the rockets sucked ass because the guiding system was made by a screw.

Then some damn indians came from the river located some hundred meters from my base and attacked me.

Yeah, the mind is the weirdst place on earth. Im am glad its over! Guess i realized that, if those bloody monsterthings wanted to eat me, they would have done it by now:rendered: so now i sleep like a baby (when i sleep).
Oh, just remembered one more weird thing: when i was a kid i imagined there was some kind of cuttingmachine on the roof that formed itself after the shape of my sleeping quilt (right word?). It would hit down on me all of a sudden and every bodypart that wasnt covered by the quilt, would be cut off (except the head - i need to breath, right?). Oh man...

Mmm, I feel like a lazy bastard reading this thread. Somewhere in my life I picked up that 7-8 hrs is ideal, so I've been aiming for that. Now in Prague we were learning and working all day then partying all night, think I got like 3-4 hrs per night over 5 nights, add to that partying and alcohol too. I had no problem with this rythm during the workshop, was pretty productive and generally pleased with my results, seems I can survive on a lot less then 8 hrs. After a few days I got the Marko shakes in my hands though, which was cureable with alcohol, so it wasn't much of a problem.

Never had those sleeping paralysis, but every so often I manage to roll over so that my arms are crossed across my chests with me lying on top of them, face down. I wake up at a point that my arms have been deprived of blood so long that I can't move them at all. When I try to roll over on my back without any sense in my arms I suddenly find out what heavy motherfuckers those arms really are. When one arm is blood deprived I can rub it to get the blood flowing again fast, but with both of em out it can take a while of (trying to) flex muscles to get em back in working order.

I remember when I was having a very high fever I was seeing my body separately from me laying down on the bed, and me looking at it from above. It was a very unpleasant feeling.

Haha, had the same thing happen to me like 2 times while sleeping after an early morning baking shift at work. I woke up and raised my arms to stretch like I normally do only to hear a "THUD" and slowly felt my arm resting on the headboard sliding down into the small crack behind my bed. I was like "wtf is wrong with my arm" and tried to fling it forward, big mistake WHACK right in my face. I realized it was just deprived of blood so I used my other arm to lift it out on a clear spot in the bed (you're right, arms are heavier than you'd think and I don't even have much muscle) fell asleep and when I woke up my hand and elbow hurt for days from smashing it on the wall and headboard.

I havent sleept properly since school. Had my fair share of nightterrors too, pretty vivid stuff.

People, be careful with your sleep, not because Freddy Krueger its going to appear and fuck off, but sleeping its a super duper important part, if you screw with it (as oposed to screwing while sleeping ;) ), it will screw your life, in a VERY serious way.

I used to do stuff like that all the time when i was young. Like, zombies and dead shit would tear through my door and kill any living thing they saw, so i had to keep hidden under my blankets to stay alive. I would make up different scenarios about what would come through that door, and i would scare myself shitless. That all lasted for a good 3 to 5 years.
