Tonight's log involving our chat

Shawn says:
Hello
Debbie says:
hey!
Shawn says:
I'm doin a little multitasking right now, you have the group chat available?
A bit of cooking and chattin
Debbie says:
oh ok
There is only two of us on line at the moment. Aaron was but he is listed as busy. I haven't heard from t i m yet.
When they do get on line its simple enough to "invite" them to join our conversation.
Shawn says:
cool
Debbie says:
Where are you located Shawn? Where do you live and what time it is there?
Shawn says:
I live in Nicholasville KY USA, and it's bout 6 pm
Debbie says:
I'm in Nova Scotia and its 7PM. So we are only one hour apart.
Shawn says:
that's not too bad
Debbie says:
No, good. I hope everyone it around the same so we can schedule some have decent meetings.
oops "half decent"

Aaron has been added to the conversation.

Debbie says:
Hi Aaron
Hey Aasron where do you live and what time is it there?
Shawn says:
Hello Aaron
Aaron says:
Hi, guys, I'm in LA, so it's 3 o'clock now~
Shawn says:
<<Nicholasville KY, USA 6pm
Aaron says:
ha~
Debbie says:
Oh gawd hahahah ....... you are 4 hours behind me and 3 hours behind Shawn. What time can we all get togther?
Aaron says:
I'm looking at artworks by Justi Sweet.
http://www.justinsweet.com/GALLERY/INDEXES/Prince_Caspian1.html
I think this is a pretty good style for this CHOW. How do you think
Debbie says:
It is an excellent style .... but it isn't mine hahahahahahha
Aaron says:
To debbie:I'm not sure, I think afternoon for me is pretty good, since I'm in the middle~
Debbie says:
OK, so lets say PM my time. That will be 7PM for Shawn and 4Pm for Aaron. Agreed?
oops 8PM my time. Damn I can't type worth shit tonight hahahah
Aaron says:
Yep
Debbie says:
Good
Aaron says:
And anyway, how are we gonna work this out?
Do each of us do a char? Or do some of us do the concepts/rendering and stuff?
Debbie says:
I suggest we meet on msn 2/3 times a week on MSN
We need a captain - any volunteers?
Aaron says:
You've volunteered.........
Debbie says:
Hahahahahahah ...... you're funny
Aaron says:
But anyway, I suggest that each of us submit some sketches to a sketchbook first, the idea is pretty important right?
Debbie says:
Ok, Aaron you set up the sketchbook using our team name. I vote you as Sketchbook monitor. So everything to do with the sketchbook is up to you. Is that ok?
Aaron says:
Okey, doing it~
Debbie says:
Good!
Shawn - are you up to being the set designer? We will need someone to maintain continuity between us.
That just leaves Tim
Has anyone seen tims works, they are pretty damn good
Aaron says:
Yeah I agree
The concepts he did for CHOW II are awesome
Debbie says:
I wonder if maybe we should leave him to be set designer, no offense Shawn. But he does have some fantastic environmental stuff
Aaron says:
http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2371254#post2371254
Anyway, I think we can all do some sketches first, instead of having one set designer.
Debbie says:
Maybe you are right! Tim has already done some sketches for a half-elf. They are pretty good.
Still, we should deside what our roles are gonna be now
Aaron says:
My rendering is better than my concepts, but still I'm not that bad , and plus I can ask my instructors for critiques~
Debbie says:
Same here! My sketches suck. They are more like drawings than rough sketches.
Shawn have you finished cooking/eating yet?
oops there you are
Shawn says:
Sorry just got back here, got some stuff gueling on the oven;
I don't mind letting Tom have the set design but I believe that we should really cement what characters we would have, develop some decent thumbs and then work things out from there.
Debbie says:
ok agreed ..... any ideas what you will be working on
Aaron says:
what exactly are we gonna make anyway?
Debbie says:
Good question?
Aaron says:
Lol, Debbie said the same thing
Shawn says:
Whoopsie,,, Aaron The initials SRD
Aaron says:
??
Debbie says:
What is our timeline .....What is our location ..... What is ..............
ok what is SRD
Shawn says:
Shawn Richard Dunn, ma'am
Aaron says:
...............
Debbie says:
Ma'am ...... did you just call me ma'am hahahahhahaahah
Shawn says:
I might have a shitty mouth but I have my polite times
comes from being the son of a NAVY man and irish bloodlines
Aaron says:
Wow, awesome....
Irish rocks!
Debbie says:
oh gawd, I don't envy that heritage
I am Welsh decent but mostly I am British
Aaron says:
Um, how do you guys think about this anway. doing a good spell caster/summoner/druid and a fighter/elemental/elder spirit type of thing that she/he summons, and a evil necromancer/sorcerer and a summoned undead/orc/Dark Knight/ghost/troll.
Debbie says:
huh!?
Aaron says:
My kinda shitty concept
I mean characters for the CHOW II
Debbie says:
Hows does that work into the dual personalities (light and dark)
Aaron says:
I think it means good chars and their evil counter parts.
Shawn says:
What I thought it was up to 6 character types with a good and evil alternative versions.
Aaron says:
But need to read it again
Debbie says:
Is it some kind of face-off!?
Like the X-men concepts
Shawn says:
Superman vs bizzaro Superman
Aaron says:
Teams of two MUST create at least 4 portraits, teams of three or four need 6 and teams of five need 8(I think it means 6 portraits instead of 12)
4. You must do a LIGHT and a DARK version for each character, please! This means that for each character you need two portraits.
Debbie says:
OK, so we need 3 good and 3 evil characters, right?
Aaron says:
Or 3 characters with both the good and evil version
Debbie says:
same thing, isn't it?
Yes, I mean 3 characters with a good and evil one each
Aaron says:
Yeah
Debbie says:
ok
Aaron says:
And the good and evil version have to be the same gender, class, race I think
Debbie says:
That leaves one of us to do the set design/environment
No, I don't think so.
A good woman vs. an evil man
A white woman vs a black woman
I human man vs a male beast
Aaron says:

Quote:
I know the character we show needs to be shown in both good and evil, and it has to be the same character, but can we change up the gender? Like an evil male orc thief and then a good female orc thief - still the same, but showing the gender options...
Good question, but no, it has to be the same gender. You're very welcome to submit an other-gender sketch version as part of your wips, tho
Debbie says:
Damn hahahahah
Aaron says:

I wonder if we may use medieval fire arms. Our team was thinking about something like an archebus or something. Would that be okay?
Nope. High Fantasy usually doesn't have them, so I would stay away from them. Had a big argument with my teamate yesterday about this, and we checked the dates on when they were invented and they are all very late medieval, whereas high fantasy tends to be around lat
I have another question, how much wiggle room do we have in regards to pose? Do we have to do a full frontal standing pose, or we're free to do standing, walking, running, sitting down....as long as the character shows 3/4 of the front side, and is a full length character? Can we do back view or 3/4 back view?
Please do it mostly front-facing, thanks. :]

My initial idea was to keep the races, classes, etc suggested in the brief but without the european middle age look. Fantasy but with other cultaral aspects.
I don't know however how far can we bend or blur the cultural lines.
There is some aspect of the character that is unremovable?(mainly about looks)
Well, there are lots of other cultures that had 'middle ages' that weren't in europe. :] I thi
Debbie says:
gawd, there are so many rules
Aaron says:
Yep, kinda annoying, especially the gender rule
Okey, I gotta do an errand now, will come back and talk later~
Debbie says:
ok, does this mean I can chose to do a good woman and an evil female beast
They are the same gender!?
Shawn says:
Sorry if I don't seem like I'm here but I'm very attentive.... just don't wanna burn stuff
Debbie says:
ok, give me two seconds I have to put the dog out
I'm back haha
Shawn says:
Yeah I've been thinking that it would be best to illustrate the characters as both the same species...
Debbie says:
You are probably right .......
But how are we suppose to come up with stellar characters with so many rules.
Shawn says:
I don't think that will be a problem, I think though it's more to organize the event a bit better. Besides wouldn't you like to see how to corupt that goodie good dude/chick you made
Debbie says:
what doogie good dude/chick you made?
I mean that I made hahahah
Hey guys, Aaron you had out sketchbook in the wrong spot. Its ok I fixed it. The new link is ...
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=156
Shawn, don't left be hanging - what goodie dude/chick?
Aaron ..... have you checked out some of those sketchbooks, gawd we are so far behind hahahah. Thank gawd we have a month!
Shawn says:
I was just talking about the general aspects of this match... Give me a few more moments, right now what I'm cookin is havin a high risk of burning
Debbie says:
hahaha ok
Shawn says:
I got a few little thumbs but nothing mutch yet
Debbie says:
I agree with Aaron that we need to figure out what we will be doing. I have no idea, although I do have some things in the back of my mind.
Aaron says:
Lol sorrry, posted it in the wrong section.............
Debbie says:
No prob
Did you get the new link?
Aaron says:
yep
Debbie says:
ok
So Aaron any idea on what you will be drawing
Woman are my strong suit so I think I will stick them one of them
I mean artisticly
hahaha
Have either of you added to the sketchbook yet?
Shawn says:
Not yet... I'll be adding on after I get some food in mah belly. I figure once we have a set crew of characters to play with it will make our endevors a lot easier.
Debbie says:
oh I totally agree
Aaron says:
I'm reading the other threads out there. A lot of goodies there!
quote:I think taking a character each would be the best way to approach it ideally, but if our styles are drastically different; the style of drawing, linework, colouring etc then the final outcome isn't going to be great. So not sure how everyone wants to approach this. Maybe we should do some sketches of something and see how they match up, samples of each others work?
Debbie says:
Hey thats a good idea
I am gonna post an idea I have right now, hang on
Aaron says:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=164946, Um....This thread is quite good
Shawn says:
Yep that is an awesome thread. And I believe we have the vertic on the character numbers the minimum is three character types (Warrior, Mage, Ranger for ex) with a good and bad (maybe a bit ugly)
Any more is extra credit
Aaron says:
It's gonna be very hard to put 8 portraits together in a good composition though~
Which means we better do only three chars
Shawn says:
I think that the portraits are supposed to be individuals but all linked in stylizations to some degree
Debbie says:
Oh boys, I added to our sketchbook. Take a look
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=156
What do you think? Could I incorporate her as a ranger possibly?
Shawn says:
possible
Debbie says:
What about a mage/ranger
Aaron says:
Coool hair~

Debbie says:
Thanks Aaron
Aaron says:
design-wise, I'm thinking of short sword/bow/dagger for a ranger, but well, she can be amazon~
Shawn says:
I really like how this one is fleshing out so far. I also believe we should take a cue from the fellows Aaron posted up a moment ago and delve into our reference piles and post up possible thoughts and possiblities... I have a massive selection of weaponry reference.
Debbie says:
Ya amazon kind works
My style is very unique, its not like most of the artist on CA
Aaron says:
Yeah, our styles are kinda different, I'm more of the painterly/heavily rendered/strong chiaroscuro type..
Debbie says:
Shawn - weaponry!?
Aaron says:
But still I like to see people with different styles, and yours look pretty clean and nice......I'm not clean though.....
Debbie says:
Ya, I kinda have this strong yet beautiful thing going on right now
How about this.........
Lets think about things and post some sketches and meet up again on Tuesday. Thats 8PM my time, 7 for Shawn and 4 for Aaron.
I guess I kinda slid in the the captain's chair but if anyone else wants it just let me know.
Is this ok with you guys?
Aaron says:
Okey, I'm off to painting now~
Debbie says:
Sahwn what about you??
Shawn says:
I'm good with that! I'll see what info I can help bolster on the thread there and get some prelims going
I'm mostly figuring that we can use each other's strenghts to help against our weaknesses
Debbie says:
I totally agree, this is a team!
Shawn says:
I'm gonna be the first to admit, my colortheory sucks...
But I do have a good structural knowledge on human anatomy
Debbie says:
We must concentrate on our positive skills. We all have them. This is no time to become insecure hahaha.
Shawn says:
Exactly
Aaron says:
My rendering/form/values are okey, and figure drawing is so-so............
In short, kinda mediocre
Debbie says:
You don't give yourself enough credit Aaron.
Aaron says:
.............................
Debbie says:
OK I will send out an email with what we have come up with so far. Especially for tim. He will need to be brought up to date
Shawn says:
I'm figuring we can also log our conversations in chat on our sketchbook thread... I'll go about doing that.
Aaron says:
Okey, I'll talk later, gotta concentrate on painting now~
Debbie says:
Good cause I have no idea how
Shawn says:
AWESOME We will dominate!!!!!!1!!1!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
Hahahaha lol
I kid
I know that as long as we do what we can we will not only do well but we will definately learn from each other!
Debbie says:
OK boys, you all have each others emails. So lets meet up again on Tuesday. I look forward to seeing what you add to our sketch book.
Shawn says:
awesome this will be a blast
It was great meeting you debbie and Aaron, and it will be fun working with you both and tim
Debbie says:
Oh I totally agree.

Debbie has left the conversation.

Aaron says:
sure it will.
Shawn, you're really awesome, you know, Mentler sure has done a pretty job. haaha
Shawn says:
Thanks, I'll be pushing as much as I can
This is going to be so much fun... I can already see a couple good ideas, I'll be posting them up in the sb thread

Possible Theme ......

‘Heron’ by Debbie Legg
Fantasy/Adventure
Synopsis

Heron, a young warrior set on returning a precious gem back to his island home, the City of Mists, is confronted by a sudden and merciless winter storm. To save his life Heron is frozen in the ice by a mystical force intent on using him to fulfill a destiny written eons ago by an ancient people long forgotten.

Months pass and spring arrives on the mountain.

Thunder crackles overhead as white streaks of skyfire light up the night and a northerly wind rips through the Kresian Mountains. A hushed rumbling resounds off the frozen bluffs high above the River Dhast, growing in intensity. With one tremendous roar a massive ridge of snow and ice releases its hold on the mountain wall crashing down around the small village dotted along the water’s edge.

Skyfire continues to race wildly until it finds its mark between the walls of a deep crevice atop the furthermost peak. The crackle of breaking ice splinters through the night air and moments later a loud roar from a man racked with pain echoes into the night.

“I am Qwinar, the Shadow of the Mountain. I have been here since the beginning and I shall remain here past the end. Pain. I sense the pain of a great warrior trapped in a prison of ice, asleep in time. I know of his quest and how he came to rest on my mountain but now it is time for him to finish his journey. I wait for him to wake and then I will tell him what it is he needs to know. I will be his guardian and he will have my protection.”

The first rays of dawn’s light appear on the horizon and Heron is approached by Qwinar. She instructs him to continue his quest to take the Zenni Gem to the City of Mists far to the east through mountains, deserts and jungles to where the sea meets the land.

Qwinar has gifted Heron with the company of three companions who shall travel with him as protectors and who will be as shadows throughout the day and take the form of flesh at night; Bré shall act as Heron’s guide to the wonders of life, Ki will substitute as Heron’s conscience and confidant, and Gyn will instill courage and honor before sharing the ultimate sacrifice.

The journey will be long and dangerous, charged with many perils. Equipped with only a short supply of food, a Tensi weapon and a swift magical skiff Heron leaves the village of Arbon on the River Dhast and heads south in his pursuit to meet the sea.

To complete the task ahead it will take seven nights and eight days of traveling a predestined course. Along the way Heron will encounter marauding bandits, bathing maidens, vicious cannibals and become friends with an unlikely ally. A powerful and ancient tree will temporarily interrupt his journey as will a civil dispute between warring jungle tribes.

Heron will reach the coast undaunted and continue on to the City of Mists situated on a floating island of coral, east on the Owatan Sea.

The city is not as he left it, many things have changed in the time he has been gone. Only the temple looks familiar and he makes his way through the streets to the highest point on the island. Heron is greeted by his dear friend the Keeper of the City, H’lit. The recent history of the city is revealed and the Zenni Gem is returned just as Heron and his companions are forced to flee the city.

A collage of medieval characters .......

Hey Tim, nice going with the sketches and Debbie that's a nice little story and some good reference.

I have a couple little thumbs that I did last night... would have posted em earlier but it's better late than never. I'm also interested in seeing other people's rough sketches.

Remember we have four basic types of peps to make The Warrior, Rouge, Mage, and Healer. Lets see how hard we can push these boundries!

(edit;; these pintsized pics are thumbs for Warrior Type characters, just trying to remain general at this point)

I think I'm gonna stick with Lynx as a Ranger/Healer type character. There's no theme/location yet so I am just working on composition/pose. I did these up this morning, four were drawn online and two were done by pencil while waiting for the washing machine to finish :) And, yes I did forget to change the hair on the pencil sketches .... hahaha

Debbie Welcome the the second Meeting of Team Obsidian

Shawn WOOT!
Shawn Always gotta start off on a good note

Debbie I saw your thumbnails CD, there are very nice. In what direction do you think you will go. I mean what character are you working on?

Shawn I'm mostly just trying to get a feel for the possibilities.

tclinard@live.com has been added to the conversation.
Aaron has been added to the conversation.

Shawn Hello everybody!

Debbie Well, I know I will be doing a woman and I like the ranger/healer themes.

Tim Hey there!

Debbie Welcome Tim

Tim Howdy

Debbie I do not think Aaron is coming. He said he had a sculpting class or something. Hopefully he will make it later on.

Tim Sounds good

Debbie OK so in attendance we have Shawn, Debbie and Tim
Debbie We should we start
Debbie oops Where should we start hahahah

Tim A theme

Debbie Great, so you have one!? hahaha

Tim I have a few ideas

Debbie Well do not be shy Tim ..... we need to get on the wagon here, time is ticking :)

Shawn tick tock tick tock broken clock

Debbie hahahahha

Tim K, so the way I think the race, class, alignment, all of these are secondary to the when and where

Debbie ohhhh, I mean that the end of the month is coming soon :)

Shawn right so right...

Debbie I agree Tim

Tim Daestwan has repeatedly said that the LOTR thing has been beat to death

Debbie And I so agree with her

Tim Her group has decided to go with an 18th century theme and placing these unique "beasts" within that setting which as everyone can see it really cool
Tim opens up alot of doors for tech and wardrobe enviro etc
Tim so that's where we need to be

Debbie Ya it does

Tim Do we want to just be another Forest, blah blah fantasy

Debbie So that leaves us anywhere from 1200 AD to 1600 AD

Tim correct
Tim on what planet though

Debbie Ya, what planet was one of the questions I had

Shawn Could be interesting to see an alien darkages

Debbie Are we going to go with Earth?

Tim Doesn't have to be

Shawn design a species or two and have em duke it out

Tim Personally I'd like to be able to add some tech to the theme
Tim really opens up creative possiblities

Debbie Can anyone remember what Daestwen said about weaponry?

Shawn thats the fun thing, alien tech could have went a diferent evolutionary route. just look at how our different cultures developed

Debbie I remember her saying that it had to be "era" specific but with a twist .... like a sword could have flames and a staff could be magikal.

Shawn although similarities in form and fuction could help bring things together

Tim Right, but I think it would be too cliche to assume that a place that has orcs and elves would be a place that resembles earth at all

Debbie Cliche..... yes you are right
Debbie What about one of the planets in our solar system?

Tim That's tough due to the inhospitable nature of our neighboring planets

Debbie What about characters that look like our medieval ancestors but who travel around on disks of light energy - you know, more technically advanced

Tim Now your talking

Debbie Of course this idea has been done before

Tim Or what if an super advanced alien race visitied this "planet"

Debbie cool

Tim Prior to said visit the planet was living in dark ages

Shawn I think we can't be too scifi

Tim words, castles, blah blah
Tim we're not
Tim just a sprinkling

Debbie I can see an alien healer or wizard dressed in medieval clothing from our time

Shawn Ah trying to conceil to the world or something of that sort

Debbie By I also thought we had to stick with the class/race as described in the outline.

Tim The aliens would be just visitors, but some of there technology might have been pickedup and applied to the tech of the native planet

Debbie We can always come up with an idea and I can present it to Daestwen via PM
Debbie How would you present the alien influence Tim?
Debbie And, an alien influence doesn't fit in with your half-elf hunter

Shawn are you having trouble with seeing the conversation...

Tim has been added to the conversation.

Shawn ALLRIGHTY then

Tim ah cool

Shawn Lets see if I can quote the last bit here

Debbie What if we created a kind of doorway (transdimentional portal) that would reflect the "good" medieval characters from this world and show the "bad" evil-half comeing thru it
Debbie Naturally they would have different gear, clothing weapons etc

Tim That's a good way of incorportating the two sides

Shawn quoted from the little lapse there debbie:
Shawn Tim says: Have you ever seen Alien vs Predator? Shawn says: yeah, it was alright I see the type of idea your trying Tim says: They introduce the Predators as coming and giving a helping hand to the egyptians hence the pyramids and such Take Lord of the Rings world, and add an alien presence Shawn says: the elves could be alien... I don't know if Debbe can see this conversation... Tim says

Tim The visual aesthetics of the characters have to be striking

Debbie Thanks Shawn

Tim It has to be starkly different than any other team

Debbie I agree, we must stand out of the crowd of other teams

Tim Underwater Orcs, Artic orcs, All of these things change the tech and wardrobe
Tim cause an orc is an orc unless you dress it up differently

Debbie True but they are still Orks
Debbie oops Orcs

Tim exactly

Debbie huh!?

Tim so the place and the theme takes an orc and makes it something else

Debbie True

Tim When you strip it of its weapons and close they are all the same
Tim but it's the weapons and clothes that dictate a cool orc vs. oh another orc
Tim like a cyborg orc

Debbie That is true too but do you really want to revamp anything Orc
Debbie oops another Orc

Tim an orc who has adopted some level of advanced tech and incorporates it into standard orc culture
Tim could be an elf
Tim human

Debbie But we have to stay within the parameters of the Rules and they say medieval

Tim they say "fantast:

Debbie I suppose we could do medieval Orcs

Tim fantasy

Debbie Medieval Orcs of the North hahaha
Debbie Hey What about underwater Orcs

Tim Nowhere do I see medieval

Debbie I reread the rules again this afternoon and they are pretty clear about the medival time frame

Tim Daestwan has her character dressed up in victorian outfits
Tim 18th century garb
Tim 1700's

Debbie That is because there is no specific time frame for medival in the Wikipedia definition
Debbie Go to the last page of the Team Chow thread (not the signup thread) and you can read her arguements and discussion with Jessibean

Tim rereading rules

Debbie Me too!
Debbie I think the Medieval era idea came from the sample painting

Tim "no sci-fi"
Tim shit..

Debbie hhahahahahahahahahahaha

Shawn booo....

Debbie poor Tim

Shawn ah well
Shawn Could still have it where the world's on a different tangent, we still have an opening for species...

Debbie So basically we have conan with clothes and armor

Tim but what kind of clothes and armor?

Debbie I didn't see the mention of troll and such

Shawn LOTR, D&D...esque

Debbie As per the sample Tim

Tim Yea, but I feel like that's exactly what they don't want

Debbie Nope, this is what they DO want

Shawn We could still push the mystic aspect though

Debbie Well, maybe ..... I'm not sure since reading Daestwen and Jessibeans conversation
Debbie ok, lets narrow it down a bit
Debbie Are we going to do off-world on this world?
Debbie oops "or" this world

Tim Debbie, Shawn I think that's irrevalant now

Debbie Why
Debbie Mars could have had a society much like our own

Tim Mars, with plant life, or mars baren rock land?

Debbie It wasn't always barren Tim, there was a thriving civilization there at one time

Shawn trying to still pull the scifi in... maybe like the medieval era of an alien race... but I think this is relevant to that one game idea that Jason had in the lounge.

Debbie oh, sorry I miss read it - I'm thinking plant life Mars

Tim What about taking LOTR era and placing it entirely within the context of an artic wasteland

Debbie Medieval era of an alien race - I wonder if this would fly with Daestwen?

Tim Mixing artic wildlife with fantasy stuff
Tim ie yeti mage

Debbie ARtic wasteland - I like it!

Tim polar bear thief mixed with giant

Shawn mix a little desert wasteland and we got ourselves possible good and evil

Tim a big ass human like polar bear

Debbie Great idea but how does that fit in with the sample (medieval theme) they gace us to work with?

Tim We aren't changing the tech or wardrobe

Debbie I am a fan of the dessert

Shawn So look toward mixing some medieval armor with heavy furs and escimo esque gear

Tim think what would they have worn or carried in lotr if it were set in antartica
Tim exactly

Debbie I like it!

Tim Really focus on what kind of beast would inhabit this land
Tim research artic wildlife and incorporate that into the fantasy
Tim personify the beasts into sentinant beings

Debbie Seal, artic fox, puffin, eagle, polar bear, wolf, etc

Shawn And for their prize they fight over the fertile lands that strip between the two...

Tim exactly

Debbie Yes!

Shawn could have some cold blooded critters in the desert area... huge insectoid mofos

Debbie Have either of you seen The Golden Compass

Tim Which side do you want as the good side
Tim desert or artic?
Tim But that creates a problem
Tim shit

Debbie Artic good and dessert evil

Tim If we do a big yeti mage for example, how do we do his counterpart
Tim no yetis in the desert

Shawn We could have it go either way, different factions in each land
Shawn innerwaring for control

Debbie Have the Yeti smaller, with less hair and more human-like in the hotter environment

Shawn as well as crossover... war is never truly good or evil, its just people

Debbie We could go big=good and small=evil

Tim visually I think we should keep them around the same size, so as to identify they are of the same species

Shawn I'd say this is definately gonna have to be discussed with daestwin

Tim but I like fur no fur idea

Shawn or thinner furs

Debbie "Species" I thought we were doing 4 different species

Tim Everyone is doing 2 pics
Tim same species
Tim different setting
Tim good and evil

Debbie Lets get our idea down first and then I will PM it to her for permission
Debbie An Orc is not an elf who is not a human
Debbie They can not be the same specieis

Tim I think someone should do something humanoid

Shawn or devil or dragon or dragonlikehuman or fuggly little hobit peps

Tim a dragon would be cool@

Debbie Or is our idea to do all the same species but with a warrior, hunter, healer etc

Tim artic dragon vs desert dragon lotsa possiblitiles there for deign

Shawn I dont think we can do same species
Shawn with all of them, there has to be some split up between them...

Debbie I agree

Shawn however human is still in the possibility

Tim She wants a light and dark version of the SAME character

Debbie Let do four different Artic species and four different dessert specieis for the evil faction

Tim so if you have a human artic warrior good
Tim you need a human desert warrior bad

Debbie I want a female artic fox representing good and an evil looking dessert dog for the evil side

Shawn With it being in the same family... I think we could pull something like that off...

Debbie I could go artic white fox and black Enubis dessert dog

Shawn However final say is with the Dae
Shawn a perfect rangerlike critter

Tim Guys, you sure you don't want to stay within the same setting? Example being a artic human who is good, dressed in lots of white fur and well kept vs an artic human who is bad, lots of black fur and messy, ragged etc

Shawn could work out well to stay within a similar setting...

Debbie I do not really care. I like the artic theme of good and evil. There are lots of parallels in the real world too.

Shawn I think though there is still a hope of variety between the two types...

Tim Reason I say this, is it could be very hard to tie the two setting together, they may end up looking nothing alike, and therefore may not work as a coherent theme

Shawn I see your point.

Debbie True .... well I kinda like the Artic theme over the dessert theme

Tim I agree

Debbie What about you Shawn

Shawn I'll get my kicks either way
Shawn so sure lets go for it

Debbie hahahahahahaha good!
Debbie ok so let me revamp .....
Debbie We are going with an Artic theme

Shawn So artic critters, giant penguins!!!!

Tim absolutely,Knowing that its up to everyone to decide what

Shawn lol

Debbie We are each doing two characters, one good and one evil

Tim character race, alignment etc
Tim which we dont have to decide on right away

Shawn Now are we going to do realistic gear or overly exagerated gear

Debbie Ok, I know I am going with an animal race.

Shawn like the bustersword with toothpick handle

Tim tech wise stay within the parameter of fantasy
Tim but incorporated into an artic setting
Tim how would they survive, what would they need to survive

Debbie So I;m doing a female animal indeginous to the Artic, dressed in medieval attire

Tim research what modern humans would wear in these enviroments and what would fantasy characters use in their time to serve the same purpose

Debbie Tim you better re-read Dae's thought on the weaponry inthe thread

Tim NIce debbie!@

Debbie Ya, I know .... i can't wiat to get started

Tim I'm still going with swords, and axes etc
Tim but maybe a whale bone for a club handle

Debbie ok are you going for the warrior then?

Tim Iim not sure yet

Debbie I'm doing the ranger/healer idea
Debbie What about you Shawn

Tim I'm gonna start by doing a lot of various sketches

Shawn I don't know if we are allowed to mix classes...

Tim animals people orcs, etc

Debbie Me too Tim ...... I want to narrow down the possibities of a great character
Debbie Well an Orc is a kind of human slash animal, isn't it. And that's on the list

Tim I really like the idea of an intelligent polar bear wizard

Debbie I will PM Dae and include it in our proposal for approval
Debbie YES! Time thats sound fascinating

Tim Anyone need help with tuts for sketching digital painting etc?

Debbie oops Tim
Debbie Maybe ...... I want to sketch out my ide first

Shawn My problems are mostly in color theory, but I think it will take more than a month to work on though ;)

Debbie We will have each other for critiques ....... do not worry about color theory yet Shawn. I am sure that working "together" we will have a great end-result

Shawn of course

Tim Here's a little something I did for sketching and values

Shawn I see the nice little thing here for debbie...Quote: I was wondering if we could multiclass. I was reading a bit about D&D classes to get an idea about what makes each one different (especially amongst the fighter types), and I glanced at a little about multiclassing. I'm not sure if I'd actually have two types (definitely no more than two; more than that and the recognizablity gets lost), but I w

Tim Doing this as we were talking..

Debbie Tim, if you are adding a link all you have to do is cut and paste

Tim http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/gr4phic4rt/mehcopy.jpg
Tim sketch
Tim http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a296/gr4phic4rt/meh2.jpg
Tim beginign of values

Debbie Shawn, what followed? Is it acceptable?

Shawn If the class is like a mix of two classes
Shawn Could be a field medic

Debbie Hahahahahahah Tim ..... what was that? He doesn't look like a polar bear :)
Debbie ok .... so we have our idea then. I will PM Dae for approval and email you guys copies

Shawn using potions from herbs and such while acting like a ranger with weaponry

Tim Sounds good
Tim next step, is to start posting ref material and sketches in the sketchbook

Debbie yes!
Debbie Now that we have our idea

Tim Remember think cold...brrrrrr.

Debbie Hahahahahah you're funny Tim

Shawn Artic hell here we come...

Tim Oh and check out Trevor's teams sketchbook...um yea
Tim its amazing

Debbie Ya know guys ..... we are going to have to make this Artic theme really over-the-top-good. I mean it has been done so much lately with the Lion and the Wardrobe and the Golden Compass. Two great movies

Tim We'll be fine I think if we come up with interesting characters and concepts

Debbie I've been looking around, some of them are fantastic. But our will be too because now we know what to post

Tim As Jason Manley said, ideas can trump skill

Debbie Ok, so when next should we get together?

Shawn I think everything's been done too much already. but yeah as long as they show a unique idea I say we have as much chance as anyone

Tim How about Fridayish?

Debbie Ideas over skill - that could be me hahahahahahahah

Shawn It's all good!

Tim hehe

Debbie Do you really want to spent your Friday night online with us :)

Shawn I'm off tomorrow if anyone wants to chat.

Tim Yea, its fine. I don't do the bar thing

Shawn I don't care for drinking but eh

Debbie Me too. I will stay on msn just in case

Tim Lets go with early evening friday
Tim maybe abit later so aaron can join us

Shawn I work friday at 9pm, so anything before 8 is good for me

Debbie So your 8 is my 9

Shawn Sundays and Mondays are usually open for me
Shawn gotta still pay them bills :)

Tim Allrighty, keep checking the sketchbook Ill be posting mass amounts of materials in there tonight

Debbie Aaron is 4 hours behind us ....
Debbie Time what time is it there where you are
Debbie oops Tim

Tim Im in Chicago
Tim so its 7pm now

Debbie It is 9 my time

Shawn about 8 here

Tim Friday Im availble any time after 5 so your 7

Debbie So how about 8 my time on Friday. That would make it 4Pm for Aaron and 7PM for Shawn and 6PM for Tim

Tim That sounds good

Shawn That's a great time for me.

Debbie ok...... I will email everyone the details

Tim nice nice

Debbie Shawn will you please post this conversation in our sketchbook for Aaron

Shawn awesome, and yes I will

Debbie I will also PM Dae to get approval for our idea after we are done
Debbie So does anyone having anything else to add

Tim yea lets us know if its all good

Debbie Oh for sure ..... as soon as she lets me know I will email everyone with the details

Tim Looking forward to it, cant wait to get painting!

Debbie Me too!
Debbie Ok boys ..... talk to you Friday

Tim ttyl
Tim has left the conversation.

A bit of reference toward the current ideer... staring in the iheadlights... ending up on the iroad as iroadkill.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g210/TheCrazyDudeSRD/TeamChowCollage1.jpg

I've been thinking about the heavy use of furs to help insilate the wearers from the cold, it will be almost necessary for anyone in these climates to have heavy layers of clothes, Metal armor will definately be of hinderance because it will not only keep from insulation but in some aspect it can amplify the cold. But this doesn't mean that the metal can't be interweaved into the furs and clothes. just as long as the under layers aren't effected.

Just a couple thoughts...

In the ice desserts of the arctic wasteland warring tribes battle to control the few remaining fertile lands left. A once proud and ancient culture now torn between disgruntled factions of a once thriving civilization. Debbie - Love the wolf's head! Also I don't know if I'm gonna add any armor to the big guy, maybe some seal bones on the shoulder or arm. I plan on having some ornate tattoos covering his body.

Shawn - nice studies looking forward to see what ideas you flesh out.

I think we should really look into the an inuit influenced wardrobe for these characters. They obviously are very functional in the frigid temperatures. It's practical for our time period, in terms of being comprised of natural materials. Also the patterns and colors are amazing!

'nother sketch to show off his size & doodles:

Love the scale Tim, very nice! :) Its starting to come together now....

Razorleaf
August 6th, 2009, 03:40 PM
I agree about the Inuit color scheme Tim. We should try and be consistant. I think I will bring Foxtayl out of 2D mode and incorporate the traditional rust and tan color pallet. Especially since this range of color hasn't changed much in the last say 2000 years which will fit into the rules/description requirements nicely.

What about weaponry? I think I'm going to go with a dagger and bow+qwiver of arrows. I'm thinking that a sword on the "big guy" will be a bit too obvious though. :)

t i m
August 6th, 2009, 06:36 PM
Nice one Debbie, yea being consistent is going to be vital for a sense of cohesion when we put all out our characters together. At the same time though, I think it's important that everyone be as creative as possible with their costume choices.

Spent a bit of time doing an ortho for the Orca, I imagine for a primary weapon he could have a giant whale rib bone sharpened down attached to a staff as a sickle. I also thinned him out a bit, I figured that he would split his time between water and land, therefore with all the swimming, he probably wouldn't carry as much bulk.

I've begun the thought process of differentiating between the light and dark side, some sketches of the two versions coming soon...

The Crazy Dude SRD
August 6th, 2009, 07:05 PM
Hey tim that's awesome design progress so far. The size of the dude makes me believe he will have some very tall doorways in his people's architecture, huge towering domains with plenty of room. Clautriphobia could be very common with them.

I also like the inuit color idea, maybe take some of the paterns and designs and twist it to our needs. It would be pretty nice if done right.

Now about the opposite's, I'm thinking we could pull different general designs on the character and give them as much unique personality as possible.

I found a couple little resources

http://www.chinahistoryforum.com/index.php?showtopic=4691
-this has a couple nice diagrams involving the evolution of armor and other useful tidbits can be found... the chinese also have some cold climates.

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=3&q=Inuit+artwork
-I figure this might help us out a bit

t i m
August 6th, 2009, 07:46 PM
Shawn - I agree 100% if armor suits your character I'm all for it! I can imagine that normal to smaller characters would for sure be wearing armor for protection. It would only make sense. Maybe incorporate some inuit design into that armor? That'd be neat.

Let myself go and had a fun little sketch of the big dude in action!

I love how you reshaped the head Tim and yes, dropping the webbed hands was probably a good idea. I'm not reading his tattoos as Inuit though .... I'm getting more of a British Columbia native art work kinda theme. And I really thought that the boots and pants idea worked so well..... it really gave him a powerful appearance. Don't get me wrong I really like the new look, its very meso-american looking. But I gotta say I like your first idea best. :)

Welcome to the Third Meeting of Team Obsidian ....
Just give me a "nudge" when you guys are ready to start
Shawn says:
hello hello
workin on some more designs for the general outfits, might do without the helmet look
Debbie says:
Are you gonna post them so we can see them before the meeting starts ...... please please pretty please
Shawn says:
I'm still workin on em... sorry
I'll see if I can get them pumped through durring if I can
Debbie says:
Well you still have a few minutes before we start .....
Shawn says:
of course.
I'll see what I can pull off here...
Although I do like tims idea and how it's fleshing out.
Debbie says:
Great ... I'd love to see what you are working on
Shawn says:
too bad I haven't any clue on how to use opencanvas one
Debbie says:
I agree Tims idea is really coming to life
what is "opencanvas one"
Shawn says:
the freebe openCanvas
I found it online a couple months ago trying to search for something else to paint through
Debbie says:
Paint thru!? ..... do you have photoshop or corel painted?
Shawn says:
I have photoshop but I don't have painter...
I just mostly wanted to see what options there are, and with this opencanvas, there is online coop painting...
http://wistinga.online.fr/opencanvas/
Debbie says:
Cool .... it never hurts to explore all our options, cause you never know where it will take you
Shawn says:
yep
It's like choosing between mediums, each one has it's own use and limits.
Debbie says:
I so agree ..... I started sketching and painting using traditional tools and I am so use to them .... now I have to make the huge leap to digital and it is so different
Shawn says:
I think that digital should be treated as traditional in the aspect of how the execution should be approached.... (that and a lot of experimentation)
Debbie says:
hahahahah
Shawn says:
I do like the wide range of color choices, I'm also thinking of when I have more funds I'll try my hand using Zorn's basic palette, just gotta get me the funds for it
that and some acrylic medium, gesso, and maybe a few more larger brushes...
Debbie says:
So you use traditional tools then!?
Shawn says:
I wish, I haven't had too much time to use them properly, I'd like to try my hand at oil paint too.
Debbie says:
aaaaahhhhhhh OILs ...... petewy! I never could use them properly. I like to smudge and blend too mush to use them right.
Shawn says:
Have you tried glazing, going though layer by layer to get it to have that glowy look to it
Debbie says:
nope!
Shawn says:
It does take a bit of time so I've heard, but the results can be amazing
Debbie says:
There are a million techniques out there and I can only hope to learn and master a handful of them.
Shawn says:
Ah but there is only one goal there; push yourself as far as possible before the inevitable
Debbie says:
So true!
OK Shawn we might as well get started, it looks like Tim and Aaron will not be attending tonight
Shawn says:
awww
(tim and aaron not showing)
not the meeting
Debbie says:
Well, I can wait til 8:30 for them I guess. Besides it will give you a chance to post an update on your character
Shawn says:
It's alright, by the way, how has your little foxy girl been turning out
Debbie says:
I posted an update in our sketchbook just before 8, why not take a peek and let me know what you think
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=156
Shawn says:
I like how its turning out
Debbie says:
Thanks, any suggestions?
Shawn says:
I'd probably work the forms of the ears, maybe work some subtle designs in the clothes,
Debbie says:
What about hte color pallet .... do you think it will work for the overall finsihed painting
Shawn says:
I think so
Debbie says:
I also wanted to touch base on the light source, it will help to know where it is coming from as we develop the characters
I was thinking having it in the upper left hand corner
If we stay consistent then it will be easier to merge all four characters.
Shawn says:
With each character having to be in separate paintings, we can have some freedom with the light source I think
Debbie says:
Wait - separate paintings!? What about the final image when we put them all togther
It will look pretty starnge if the light source is all over the place
hang on a sec - I will be right back
Shawn says:
I think that is part of the rules, unfortunately... But I don't see a problem with having a couple images that have the good and bad together to help tie things together
Debbie says:
I'm back ....
I don't think having them on separate canvasses is part of the rules Shawn. It is an option that some of the last team opts for but most of the final images the characters were merged onto one canvas
I will re-read them now though, hang on a sec
Shawn I can't find it anywhere that says the final images will be separate and on their own canvas.
Can you remember where you read it?
Shawn says:
Well with it being 6 individual portraits, I came to the conclusion that they had to be individual
Debbie says:
Last time one of the teams decided to do "cards". Their final image was a single canvas with a frame and all their characters inside it. They also submitted individual "cards".
It was very nice.
Since we have to do 6 or 8 characters - each with a good character and an evil character ..... I thought we talked about doing a face-off kind of theme. So we would have all 16 characters on one canvas
Shawn says:
I think that's more the idea with the final image.
It would be interesting
Debbie says:
OK, I am not sure what you are trying to say Shawn...
Shawn says:
I was talking about the previous sentence... sorry
Debbie says:
huh!?
Shawn says:
Last time one of the teams decided to do "cards". Their final image was a single canvas with a frame and all their characters inside it. They also submitted individual "cards".
sorry copy paste
forgot the qoute marks
Debbie says:
I am still not understanding you sorry. We all have to work on our two characters ..... then one of us will take the 8 characters and merge them onto the background/environment
So yes we will originally have them on one canvas but what it submitted will only be one canvas with 8 characters on it.
Shawn says:
Ok
I see now, sorry bout the confusion
Debbie says:
This is why I thought that we should discuss the light source
Please do not apologize ...... I could be wrong. hahahah
Shawn says:
I'd say we should definately talk with Daestwin on this issue.
Debbie says:
Since Tim has done some nice environments I thought he would be perfect to merge all 8 onto one canvas for submission.
ok..... I can PM her and ask her to clarify - great idea!
Shawn says:
Cool
Debbie says:
Did you receive her last response - I fwd her email to everyone
Shawn says:
I did
Debbie says:
Great!
ok then, I will ask Daestwen and then report back to everyone as soon as she gets back to me
Shawn says:
It would be awesome to have a piece in there to depict the two sides fighting, at least as a sketch though
Debbie says:
I agree
ok, is there anything else I should ask her while I'm at it
Shawn says:
ummm, can I haz cookie? (i'm joking)
Debbie says:
Alot of other teams are doing the fighting scene
hahahahhahahahahahah
ok, so when should we get together again?
What about Monday, same time?
Shawn says:
Sounds good to me
hopefully we can get some time with our teammates
Debbie says:
Ok, in the meantime I am still going to work with a light source in the top left hand corner. It will help if we are all consistent.
I know .... I am starting to worry about Aaron. I don't think he has come to any meeting thus far. Tim has missed two our of three but he is posting inthe sketchbook so we know he is keeping up.
Shawn says:
well if worst comes to worst, He'll probably not be counted against us...
I dunno
Debbie says:
This is another thing I will ask Daestwen
Shawn says:
I might omit some parts of this conversation though
I don't want Aaron to feel unwelcome
Debbie says:
Try not to edit toooo much cause we need everyone on the team to know what was talked about
Shawn says:
Mostly just the last few little statements involving aaron...
Debbie says:
It is important that Dae and the other judges to know what transpired in our team.
Aaron should know that we "notice" his absence!
I will email him and ask him his status if you want me to
Shawn says:
hmmm... alright if you feel that it would be best to have the whole thing I won't mind, However Aaron; when you do read this, please dont think of us as bad peeps, we just worry :/
If you won't mind, I would appreciate it.
Debbie says:
No probem ...... I will send it out tonight
Shawn says:
I'm sure Tim would also, it would help keep problems at a minimum if dealt with early on.
Debbie says:
No prob ...... I will sending everything out tonight and then fwd everyone the responses when they come in.
Have you had a chance to post in the sketchbook tonight ....
Shawn says:
no sorry, I haven't but I'll be posting after work... (I do love the overnight )
GRAVEYARD SHIFT OOOYYYY
Debbie says:
Been there, done that hahahahah
ok, so lets meet up again on Monday - same time
Shawn says:
Excellent, and Debbie do you want this conversation to remain unedited.
Debbie says:
Sure why not!?
Shawn says:
Alrighty then.
Debbie says:
Are you going to be online for a while yet?
Shawn says:
nah, I have to get ready for work really quick.
Debbie says:
ok, then talk to you tomorrow
Shawn says:
Got me the friday hell rush at MacDonald's.... fatty food and fatty air... ewwwww.
Debbie says:
Oh I haven'[t had MacDonalds food in a long long time hahahahah
Shawn says:
Let's just say that if I was working somewhere else, I would be a starving artist
Debbie says:
hahahahaha ....... I luv those nuggets
Shawn says:
although I wouldn't pay for that crap even if it was with someone elses money
Sorry I've seen things that would turn people away from that food for a couple lifetimes
Debbie says:
You don't need to tell me - I KNOW
ok, go to work and by the time you get back online tomorrow you will have some answers
Shawn says:
ah you've had your time under the macman
Debbie says:
hahahahhahahahahahhahaha you are SO funny. NO, I actually never worked at MacDonalds. My daughter is majoring in biology and she tells me some horror stories. And, I know lots of people who have.
Shawn says:
Ah ok
Yeah, text based humor is a little easier for me, timing in real life is always so much harder to deal with
Debbie says:
hhahahahaahah ......... I bet you are witty in real life. We are going to have to do a conference meeting before this whole thing is over.
I video conference my daughter all the time
Hey, maybe we should do it on Monday
Are you up for it
Shawn says:
I don't have video and unfortunately I have to solder a wire to my headset before it can work
Debbie says:
oh ok..... do you have a mic. You could still join in
Shawn says:
That's what's screwed with my headset
It's just one wire though, if I can get the iron it should be an easy fix but I have to be very careful.
Ah well. Even so I wouldn't mind if I could
Debbie says:
OK you work on it and let me know
Shawn says:
ok
Have yourself a good one alright!
Debbie says:

Sorry guys for posting kinda late. But anyway, on a meeting with Debbie, I said I would make a human/elf battlemage(supposedly male) which is sent to the arctic land by some empire/council.

(Battlemage = warrior + mage)

So I made a battlemage, but for some reason, whenever I draw from imagination, the char just turns into a girl.......Maybe I love girl tooo much........

Anyway, here it is. Flawed design, mediocre anatomy(I'll be having a constructive figure drawing class tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get some crits on anatomy), and a damned excuse for a rendered painting.......Will be work more it though..........Of course.............

Anyway, I think I'll have to tweak it a lot to make it more fitting with the setting.....But that's for tomorrow~

Still I kinda like the big idea, heavy armor, wings, staff and a mace!

To Shawn and Debbie, don't worry, I feel pretty bad myself for missing the meetings and being lazy about the updates.

About tomorrow, I'll be able to get on internet by around 4 30. So perhaps I will able to be on MSN~

Aaron Death

About some crits.

To debbie, I feel the right shoulder is kinda too large or something, but it isn't connecting very well I feel.

The color palette is working good, but since you put it in a neutral background would help, I think~

To tim, wonderful design! Anyway, I'm not too familiar with humanoid kinda char, so bad crits I guess~But anyway, I love how you make the ribcage lean forward to make it more animal like, instead of leaning backwards as in a human......But I think stronger/shorter legs would be necessary to balance it~

To shawn, pretty strong sketches, anyway, I don't think a curved sword fits an arctic setting though, at least in ma impression~I luv your armor design, sure seems like it belongs to a frozen land~Third and fourth are my favorite

First - sorry I couldn't make it last night guys, I had some dinner plans pop up.

Debbie - Nice update! Yea the webbed fingers were a bit much. I decided to drop the pants and boots cause I imagined that my character would split his time between the land and water (hence the tail and fin to aid him in swimming). So having the boots and pants would probably hinder his swimming ability and wouldn't make much sense. I opted instead for some seal skin trunks.

Aaron you mentioned you were having some trouble with the anatomy of you character, I'm no expert but I made a lil' video on the benefits of using a reference photo.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EBvsOGll9bE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EBvsOGll9bE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Also I didn't mention it in the video but using a picture with natural lighting is best, because flash photography ends up flattening out the subject.

HEEEYYYYYYYY AAAAARROOOONNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!1

Glad to see you postin dude. I like the concept so far there dude. Try out different things with him/ or even her if you want (Sexy halfelf battlemage chick sounds hot).

Maybe even working with the layers to help you out with the guide lines, I pretty much did the same thing with my thumbs, build a basic framework and then dressed it with heavy armor and coats and whatnot.

Tim that is an awesome vid there.

And thanks for the IM there Debbie

A couple modifications to the last thumbs plus some more; remember if there's pieces and parts you like and don't like, let me know I can play butcher!

Excellent CD!

I am kinda liking the guy on the far left, top row of the second set (long hair, sword in hand). He just seems to fit into our theme so well. :)

Update for Foxtayl ......

Shawn - great sketches, I agree with Debbie I like the guy with the long hair, but I also really like the helmet you drew on the guy in the first sketch. Looking forward to see which one you go with.

Debbie - She is really coming along! If I were to offer a bit of advice, the head is a tiny bit small, may want to make it a bit bigger. Other than that loving it, keep it up!

Shawn says:
Hello hello
Debbie says:
Hi, I was about to give up on you guys
Shawn says:
Sorry bout runnin late, had a drier that I had to fix up
Debbie says:
No prob
Shawn says:
So hows been everything
good I hope
Debbie says:
Have you checked the sketchbook today
Shawn says:
I checked and I like what I see
Debbie says:
Did you make any posts?
Shawn says:
Not yet but I was about too. Got the long haired dude a little more rendered, trying out a grisalle technique ~ kinda
Debbie says:
Great!
I can't wait to see him
Did you get the emails I fed from Daestwen?
oops sorry .... forwarded from Daestwen
Shawn says:
The IM's yep
Debbie says:
good
So we are now all on the same page
I was thinking .... why don't we do 4 good characters and then one group image, and then 4 evil characters and another group image.
I see other teams doing it and I think it will make for a great final setup
That way we can have to backgrounds to work from
oops sorry "two" background
Shawn says:
I'm sorry debbie, but unfortunately we can't do so. If you check Team Baguette's Final image here ; http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=156801
I believe that's how daestwin wished it to be.
Although a couple images in the sketchbook akin to what you are talking of wouldn't be a big problem
Debbie says:
In the last team chow they only one set of characters to do, so of course there would only be one final image. But this time we have two sets. If we do not do two separate final images then how do you propose we do it?
Shawn says:
I think one final image could be done, it's just a matter of layout
four top four bottom
two columns or pull a 9 square area and have one of the empty panels with something involving the team
Debbie says:
Oh no .... really ... I don't see anyone else doing that. We want to make the layout appealing to both good and evil characters.
Do you mean for individual characters or the group image
Shawn says:
The group image
the final image
sorry
Debbie says:
Everyone else is doing side-by-side characters.
For their final image I mean
Shawn says:
I'll have to see myself
Debbie says:
ok
Are you looking?
Shawn says:
yep, that and trying to post my image in the SB
Debbie says:
Team Thundercats is coming along great but they are very high-fantasy
ok
oops "aren't very high-fantasy
They look like everyday characters to me even though they are done extremely well
Shawn he is coming along GREAT!
I especially like the realism
Shawn says:
Thank you I try
I'm still a bit wary of how I'm going to play with the color, I seen techniques that someone had on youtube involving color dodge but I dunno
Debbie says:
Just go slow and Tim, Aaron and I will help you along the way
Shawn says:
hehehehe thank you
I;m mostly trying concepts I seen in the underpainting thread in the forum
Debbie says:
Good idea ....
So are you going to have any kind of background with yours
Who are we going to get to do the group image
Shawn you type to damn slow ..... hahahahah
Shawn says:
I know
Debbie says:
Com'on boy faster faster .....
Shawn says:
If it's three words or less I can do it but otherwise
Debbie says:
Can you do an audio conference call?
Shawn says:
nope sorry... I tried to work the headset but it's boned
I
Debbie says:
ok, no prob
Shawn says:
I'd have to remove the old solder first and that has a possiblity of fucking the little chip that connects the usb to the computer
Debbie says:
ok
Shawn says:
Sorry if you don't care for the cursing (son of a navy man with Irish bloodlines and all that)
Debbie says:
hahahahah, I know you said already. Thats some heritage you got there
Shawn says:
Have you seen 30 days of night?
Debbie says:
ok, so focus......how are we going to do our finals
Yes, I am too damn sick of zombie slash vampire movies
Hey do you wtch True Blood
Shawn says:
sorry I'm making you lose focus, but the conditions in that movie reflect the conditions we are trying to emulate. and no I haven't seen true blood... don't have those expensive channels.
Debbie says:
Hey, I watch it online
Shawn says:
I'll check it out when I can then
Debbie says:
You are going for a more urban arctic than I am. I am going for something more desolate
Shawn says:
I'm just figuring that even the arctic has a varying degree of civilization
Debbie says:
True
But do our characters fit into it
Shawn says:
I think they all do
Debbie says:
I know mine and Tims probably don't ..... and some to think of it, yours doesn't really either
REALLY! hahahhaahhaah
What kind of background do you see Tims character in
Shawn says:
I think he's gonna be good to have around a icy slope near some water
Debbie says:
I see a isolated little village ... something out of Conan .... all covered in snow with dogs barking and small fires everywhere
Did you read the summary of the novel I am writing that I posted in our sketchbook?
Shawn says:
yep, but I think things have changed as we worked on this so it might be incompatible with the characters...
Debbie says:
ok
Shawn says:
Although I think your method of writing could be used very well.
Debbie says:
As for as our timeline goes ... I was thinking 10 days for our good characters and 10 days for our evil characters and the 10 days to finish our finals. But at the rate we are going I don't even know if we will finish in time
oh Thank you .......
Aaron already asked me to do the write-ups
Is that ok with you
Shawn says:
I was mostly thinking the final week be the best time to work on finals, but the first two would be time that we could spend organizing the thoughts and getting some thumbnails and roughs done and then on the third week we all get our final image figured out and fourth week we execute. Considering that august ends the 31st, we still have a bit of time.
Debbie says:
I hope you are right!
Shawn says:
Well with the roughs we could bring them up to the level polish people are expecting through the last week there.
Debbie says:
The only trouble is we have to do two of everything
Shawn says:
It's still good, just gotta be diligent
Debbie says:
ok, I won't worry
OK, back to the final image design
The reason I am making such a big deal out if it is because of the lighting. If we all have the light source the same then merging our final images will not be so hard.
But if we all have different light sources then final image will look rediculous
I went for a top left hand corner, and I will probably do the opposite for my evil character
Shawn says:
I think mostly if the images are good regardless of common lighting, it will all still work out well.
Debbie says:
But the should be consistent in the final image ... people (judges) will be able to tell easily if we have not come togther on this point
Some of the other teams are doing incredible backgrounds with the individual images which allows them great flexibility but they are consistent in the final image
And speaking of finals ...... what should I put down for you "job" in the team
Shawn says:
I wouldn't mind being the secretary
Debbie says:
oops nope I already got yours .... its Aaron's that I don't have
You ARE secretary hahahahahahaha
Shawn says:
sorry I'm having a bit of cerebral flatulence
Debbie says:
me too hahahahaha
Shawn says:
*brainfart* CALL KGB
Debbie says:
ok, well for now I am simply going to finish my characters
I will have a top left hand corner for my good character and a top right hand corner for my evil character
hang on Shawn i will be right back ok
Shawn says:
ok
I was thinking the two rows probably be best personally, having good on top and bad on the bottom (pushing the polar opposites)
Debbie says:
I'm back
Do you mena for you final image
The final image has one background and all the characters on it.....
Shawn says:
I was thinking about the teams final image.
Debbie says:
How can you have them on top of each other and still have it make sense
Shawn says:
But our individual finals we could have side by side
Debbie says:
oh ...
Shawn says:
Or a straight row of 8 with the good placements mirroring the evil
G1 g2 g3 g4 e4 e3 e2 e1
Debbie says:
YES, I think I get it. ok, I will have one panel for my characters but two separate image - both facing each other.
Shawn says:
I think that the images still have to be separate though
Debbie says:
so the G1 thing is for the final image ..... right!?
Shawn says:
No it's supposed to be good dude 1.2.3.and 4 with evil dude 4 next to Good dude 4 and going backwards from there
Evil dude 4 3 2 and 1
Debbie says:
Shawn are you talking about the final image?
Shawn says:
yep
Debbie says:
oh good
Shawn says:
sorry
I tend to go on different tangents alot
Debbie says:
ok then i think I understand what you are talking about and yes, I agree with your format
Shawn says:
I think the layout would be best to show the characters on equal ground rather than good over evil
Debbie says:
ok ... so then my idea about the light will work great then
and having my good character face right and my evil character face left is going to work really good too
ok, I'm all set
Shawn says:
I think we should really get a good look at the reference that ms Daestwin gave us, I see the lighting and color is all different, various and unique in each, yet all coincide with each other
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2240230&postcount=12
The final post of the winners of last TChow
Debbie says:
ok, Shawn in the example you just gave me that team submitted one final image broken up into panels, each with its own background and light source
I am talking something different .....
Other teams did one background with the characters all placed in it, and that is what I think we should do. Picture x-men face off ...... good on one side facing evil on the other.
Shawn says:
I'm sorry give me just a second, I have to give my dog his meds.
Debbie says:
hahahah ...... ok
Shawn says:
I'm back, anyhow. I was mostly concerned with how Daestwin wanted us to organize the final image. and considering her example we should definately follow suit. I would hate to see us disqualified for something as small as how the thing is set up
It could make a difference in how things are voted on too
Debbie says:
What example ...... the only example she gave us was the one done by the man in Asia
The example you gave me is not in the description anywhere
Shawn says:
But it was the example that Daestwin gave us in the pm that you sent to us
If I recall
Debbie says:
hang on I'm going to re-read it
Shawn says:
"You will need eight seperate images, as well as a combined image, but this time please do the combined image as simply all eight lined up, like team baguette's entry in the last team chow."
Debbie says:
oh , ok !!
So then I have nothing to worry about
Shawn says:
Yep we can have all unique lighting situations and even some difference in palettes, just as long as things look similar enough to work
Debbie says:
Cool .... that works for me !
Shawn says:
So now we have our final image all situated, I'll do a quicky sketch describing it. so that everyone is on the good footing with everything
Debbie says:
YES! Excellent Mr. Secretary hahahhahahaahahahhh
Shawn says:
Awesome
Debbie says:
ok, I'm happy now ........ so then we are done for tonight right?
Shawn says:
If you wish, I have all night long to work
Debbie says:
Will you please post this to the sketchbook for the others
Shawn says:
alrighty
Debbie says:
I'd like to chat more but it is 9:20 here and I still have a ton of things to do
Shawn says:
Ok
It's all good
Debbie says:
So when will the next meeting be
Shawn says:
maybe wednesday...
sorry I could never spell that day correct
Debbie says:
Lets make it Thursday this time....it will give the other two more time
Shawn says:
And it won't be friday so they might be more able to join in the conversation
Debbie says:
Yes, right!
How much drama/action are putting into your images
Shawn says:
I'll try my best to have as much as possible but I don't want the drama to overtake the character's appearance
I'd like to have the evil dude standing over a fire as if he was a leader of a raider group
Debbie says:
My characters lack action .... so this time I'm thinking on doing somthing a bit over-the-top for me.
Ya, thats a good idea shawn
Shawn says:
I'd say do some thumbnails of different gestures and see which one pops up more for you
Debbie says:
I don't think that will work this time around ..... I'm thinking on doing something that has less substance and more glow
I dont' know ..... I will work on it and see
Shawn says:
It's all good
Debbie says:
ok, talk to you on Thursday - same time
Shawn says:
Awesome, I'll write it out on the end of the post
Debbie says:
ok
Shawn says:
Hopefully we'll all get together this next time
Debbie says:
Ya, that would be nice
Still, you and me make a great team .......
Shawn says:
I try my best, I'll see if Aaron or Tim decide to chat anytime tonight
Debbie says:
Are they online
Shawn says:
That's a negative....
Debbie says:
hhahhahaahahahha ..... ok then
I hope to see some of your stuff posted to the sketchbook tmoroow
oops tomorrow hahaha
Shawn says:
Alright then I'll do my best to work something out
Debbie says:
Nice
Shawn says:
I'd really like to get some color experiments going with it
Hmm' it looks like it started raining outside
Debbie says:
Now that the final desgin issues have been ironed out, I think we have plenty of time to mess around with things.
Hey, thats all it does here in Nova Scotia is rain.
ok Shawn .... ttyl
Shawn says:
At least you don't have to deal with kentucky's muggy augusts'

If you have leather seats and bare flesh.... you literally have to grab a spatula to peel yourself from it
Debbie says:
Hahahahahahahah ..............you are funny Shawn and i would luv to chat more but i really do have to go.
Shawn says:
Alright, Have a good one!
Debbie says:
Good night! :0

----------------------------------------------

Alrighty then Lady and Gent's we have found out how the final image lineup will work out; All of em are going to be lined up panels of individual characters (thanks Daestwin)

I think the line up is still open for discusion but I'm thinking of a straight row of Good characters A B C and D, followed by Evil characters D C B and A, so if Tim's orcain dude is A, his good character would be first and the evil would be last.

Debbie says:
Welcome to the Fifth meeting of Team Obsidian
Shawn says:
Hello.... hello.... hello.... hello....
Debbie says:
Don't forget to post you most recent images inthe sketchbook everyone ....
Shawn says:
Give me a second, doing some touchups with some fresh eyes
Debbie says:
Please do not forget ......

* Tim - I need your character description
* Aaron - I need your team job description

OK CD, we should probably begin.
And it looks like its just you and me again tonight!
Shawn says:
This is unfortunate
I hope they show sometime...
Debbie says:
I really don't know what to day to their absences .....
OK, well we can make this a short meeting tonight
We are already well on our way now that we have the design problems ironed out.
How is your character coming along?
If you are busy CD, we can reschedule the meeting
OK ...... I'm going to call this meeting to a close.
CD, will you please post this in the sketchbook. Thanks
Shawn says:
Sorry I was being talked at
Debbie says:
Our next meeting will be Tuesday 18th August - same time.
Shawn says:
I'm still available for the meeting
Debbie says:
oops - talked at?
Its ok CD ..... we are on a roll anyway
How is your character coming along
Shawn says:
I'm working on the evil version a bit, still trying different poses to differenciate the good
got some simple designs on the good dude too
Debbie says:
I'm thinking that our characters are just not high-fantasy enough
But when I look at the work of other teams we seem to be all on the same page - which is good
Anyway .... I'm still going to call an end to the meeting CD.
Shawn says:
Alright. I'll go ahead and post it in the sb
Debbie says:
Thanks

I'm sorry if I didn't seem like I was as active in this meeting as I should have been. I'll go ahead and post what I refined so far

Your characters is really coming along CD ....... what about some color!?!? I'm really interested to see what you do with him. :)

Aaron Death
August 15th, 2009, 04:12 AM
Sorry guys, I should be more active anyway. Um, some more update on the battlemage. I think I'll change the pose a bit just to make it more dynamic. But anyway, I'm just so terrible with poses, and I spent some hours trying to find a pose which works without any real progress.

So here are some poses which work slightly better. Sorry but I haven't put the armor on him........I think the second one is my favorite so far~

Should the final image be more of a combat pose or a less dynamic one anyway? I've seen both on the last challenge.....

About the setting, I think a more wizardly battlemage would suit the high fantasy setting better. And after all, how can anyway high fantasy team do without a spell caster?

752829

Shawn:I love how your char is turning out. Great mood in there. Anyway, the head is a bit flat, perhaps you can change the way the shawl/hat wraps around head a bit~

Also, I found a pretty ref for your armor.
http://st2008.trincoll.edu/~julan/091205_Armor2%5B1%5D.jpg

Debbie: The evil char is working great. The cloak is simply fabulous, She can be perhaps more different than the good version though, perhaps change the skin tone/background a bit?

Also, what do you mean by team job description in the email? Don't each of us do a char, at least for now?

The Crazy Dude SRD
August 17th, 2009, 04:02 AM
Thanks Aaron, that's an awesome little ref. Where did you find it?

I got a bit of a roughed out baddude.
I played a bit with color today... It's been quite a few months. I'd like some opinions on it and if you find something that could be worked out let me know!

Awesome bad ass dude man, he's real wicked! The head, the pose , the sword, the claws. They're wonderful!

About the image....Image google, armor~

Haha, I did a lil tweaking in ps for ya pic. I don't have much time now but perhaps I can do more tomorrow~
Specifically on the face. If the shadow on the left side is a cast shadow, it should have much harder edge though. I'm kinda confused about it since the light is coming from the left~

And yeah, I guess I wouldn't be available on Tuesday, because I have class on every Tuesday~ You guys can probably do fine though~

Alrighty dudes here's the last meeting's minutes.

Tim says:
no debbie?
Shawn says:
I dunno, my alarm failed me
Tim says:
metting was at 6 central no?
Shawn says:
I believe so
Tim says:
allright well how do we get aaron in here, sorry I'm new to this.
Shawn says:
I'm not sure. I think you have to send him a message or something... I tried and it splits the conversation

Aaron has been added to the conversation.

Shawn says:
Alrighty I think I got it
Tim says:
Ahh cool
Aaron says:
Hi guys
Shawn says:
Aaron you listening
Tim says:
3 out of 4 aint bad.
Aaron says:
`
Tim says:
Feel, like a jerk for missing the last couple of meetings, will definetly apologize to Debbie
Shawn says:
I believe it's all good, so how has your orcaian dude been coming
Tim says:
been playing around with the evil side, quite a bit
started working on the final for the light side as well
should be good, I hope to get another character done too
so 4 final images from me
Shawn says:
Damn that be nice.
Aaron says:
Wow, great.
Tim says:
Yea I was gonna go small with the next one, like a penguin or small mammal
female-esque
Aaron says:
hahaha
Sounds pretty cute
Tim says:
we'll see, been a bit sidetrack but back on task
I saw those updates aaron, really nice
Aaron says:
Thanks
I'm such a nerd about anatomy and stuff
should focus more on the design
Tim says:
I like how you made the armor as if it goes over a large parka coat, very belivable and a nice touch
Aaron says:
But anyway, I just started to be able to draw some figures from ma mind
Shawn says:
Wait a sec...
That's of my design
he just did a little color change to it.
The swordsman?
Tim says:
my bad guys, I got aaron and shawn's mixed up
Aaron says:
Oh, you mean the swordsman
Yeah, I just tweaked the color a bit~
Shawn says:
Alrighty just wanted to make sure
Tim says:
actually no I didn't
Shawn says:
Alrighty sorry dude
Tim says:
aight who's doing the guy with the big sword, lol!
Aaron says:
Be careful hough, if ou put such vibrant colors in the background, it's gonna be hard to make it look like in the arctic
The snow is gonna look red that way~
Shawn says:
I understand.
I'm gonna have to cool it down there
It's mostly the 'underpainting' I've been trying to emulate painting theories that I've read and tried to understand
Tim says:
I like the bits of color you've added to the sky shawn
maybe blend them up a bit with a big soft brush?
Shawn says:
I'm curious, are you guys seeing a lot of blue in the armor...
Aaron says:
I've never done any underpainting though, mostly I just choose a color scheme, and model out the form. That's how I'm taught to paint in oil anyway?
Tim says:
Yea I do see bits of teal that may be a tad out of place.
Shawn says:
Is it a small strip on the lower plates
I believe my lcd is playing mind games with me
Tim says:
or add some teal into the bg, I imagine the armor would just end up picking up refelective colors from the surround areas
one of the perils of digital painting for sure..
Shawn says:
There we go... Too much contrast in my screen
I'll have to see what I can do to remedy certain things
Tim says:
I think your light side is looking great Shawn, and the sketch for the dark side is going to be awesome too
Aaron, Im looking at your wips, your going with a wizard?
might have stepped away for a moment
Aaron says:
Yep~it's coming pretty, um..... slowly
Should have spent more time though~
Tim says:
Are you going with a human, or animal, or something else?
It's all good, still plenty of time left
Aaron says:
Human ha
I've no idea how I can make an animal wizard...
Tim says:
Sure you could
Shawn says:
So we have two humans a snowfox, and an orca... sounds like a cheezy tv show
This was typed in front of a live studio audience
Tim says:
If by "cheezy tv show" you mean "awesome" then yes I would agree
Shawn says:
yep
Aaron says:
Is high fantasy though?
It it high fantasy though?
Tim says:
No seriously though, Aaron, what animals would be reveared as regal, old, statlely, smart?
Aaron says:
human?
Tim says:
Like the old walrus, and how they hold they're heads up
half man half walrus,
Or although A bit obvious, the owl comes to mind
Aaron says:
Oh, holy walrus, awesome is your name!
Tim says:
hehe
Aaron says:
Bears could be pretty stately.
Tim says:
Polar bear battle mage
that could be cool
Aaron says:
Wow, do we choose to do animals anyway?
Tim says:
No, no, but it gives us more creative options, other than a bunch of humans all in eskimo costumes with different armor, ya know?
by no means necessary, humans are a -ok too!
Aaron says:
Well, that makes sense~
Perhaps an animal familiar?
Shawn says:
Could have a sexy female battle mage.
Tim says:
I mean basically you could do whatever you like as long as it's fantasy
Megan Snow Fox....terrible I know..hah
Aaron says:
......................................
Female would be cool, afterall, the majority of models are females~
Tim says:
Aaron the stuff you do from reference is great, I'm browsing your sketchbook, and you should have no problem coming up with a couple of good pieces
Aaron says:
Lol, I haven't updated in a long time......Old stuff~
Thanks anyway~
Tim says:
even better
Aaron says:
School is quite busy you know. The reason I can talk today is because the model is sick~ Or I would be sculpting now. hahaha
Shawn says:
hehehe I understand dude, what days are best for you
Tim says:
Your in school, very cool, where do you go?
lol at my rhyme.
Shawn says:
Damn too many questions don't you agree
Aaron says:
hahaha, Laafa. A pretty traditional art school~ Anyway, Wesdney, Thursday I'll be at home I guess~
This school is awesome, anyway, 20 hours of life drawing per week is pure awesome!
Tim says:
Too many questions, haha, sorry, just making conversation.
Aaron says:
Lol, anyway, are you a student or prof, Tim?
Tim says:
self taught, went to school for biology, ended with psychology.
Aaron says:
Wow, that's pretty cool~
Shawn says:
that's awesome... I
I've always liked reading into psychology... helps me understand why people think the way they do
Tim says:
I don't use either, but I wish I could turn back the clock and go to a traditional art school, had to spend alot of time trying to teach myself, thank god for the internet
Shawn says:
Nah, you should be thanking Al Gore...
I kid
Tim says:
yea no doubt, hah
Shawn says:
I'm gonna have to get off of here pretty soon, so If you fellows want, we could have our next meeting same time on thursday?
I'll let debbie know. Hopefully we all can be here together one time
Tim says:
Sounds good, same time Ill be here.
I'll post all those sketches and what not into the sketchbook
Aaron says:
okey, good, I'll be there~
And I'll work more on the char~
Tim says:
please do mang, can't wait to see more!
Allright guys, have a good one!@

Gawd, these are coming along GREAT! I love the evil orca Tim and the color on your characters is really nice CD. Forgive me for not attending on Tuesday but I've changed servers and the wireless connection isn't working properly yet. I will post more when I get it working. :)

Alls good Debbie.

Tim that's an awesome orca dude

A bit more play with the colors...

Thanks Shawn! The colors are definitely better now, keep going!

Debbie - your evil character is coming along nicely, really glad to see things are going well.

Here's the beginning of my final for the evil orca, really hoping for something nice and polished when it's done. I'll be doing the same for the light side as well:

Popping back in for an update, working top down. Oh, and do we need a background? Is it suggested? If so, not a big deal to add one.

That is an awesome evil orca, tim, I love it! I don't know what happened to the white area above his left eye though. Looks kinda jarring to me~ The neck won't suddenly just end right?

About the BG. I saw JessiBean do this.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=748388&d=1249936671

Not sure if it is required though. However I do feel that a BG looks better than Pure white!

Sorry Shawn, when you called me today on MSN, I was not at the computer~

Anyway, a little update for today. Anyway, heavy armored wizard, or battle mage~
I'm still not decided if I should make it male or female, it kinda overlaps with Shawn's evil warrior if it's a male though. Girl in heavy armor? Sounds better~
I gotta design a better staff though. Staff is hard~

Still, I need to make him/her look like somebody who wears armor and at the same time, can actually decipher scrolls and cast spells, instead of some dumbass big orc who happens to pick up a staff.

Tim, I do believe that backgrounds, while all good for experience, are not necessary for the contest. I do agree with Aaron, plain white ain't right :)

August 21st, 2009, 08:16 PM
Aaron - the white area is the spot above an orca's eye. I'll spend more time on that and his neck to make them more readable.

As for you mage, I'd suggest trying and loosten her up. Right now her pose is pretty static. Take a look at Debbie's fox, alot more curves in her lines. Just a thought...POST MORE! :D

Shawn - "plain white ain't right", hehe. How's the broadsword guy coming along?

A bit more on mine..

Portraits are supposed to be singular... :P

(though I agree that the clubbing seal is awesome.)

Awesome progress, t i m. He's real wicked. Background looks nice, but he's kinda floating now...

Lol, deadline is closing in. I guess I'll hurry up a bit. And yeah, I should give her a more dynamic pose....

I made some pencil sketches today, but I can't scan them in. But I'll be able to replicate it in digital some time later.

I wonder if I can put her in a library, or mage tower though. That should made her more "wizardly". But how are we gonna do the layout anyway?

I think Team Baguette's layout is pretty cool. It's actually easier to do. And backgrounds add a lot to the chars, right?

Like this, perhaps there can be something to divide good team and evil team though.
760103

Here are some other possibilities. They're not very likely to work though.
For example, we can stack them.
760104

Or a ring.
760106

Or put them in a unified background, or perhaps two BGs.

Gawd Tim your evil orca is fantastic!! -- Its so Ahab and Moby Dick -- :) And I love the little "pal" that you can't use hahaha.

I am still out of commision with the damn wireless ..... our recent hurricane could have effected it somehow?? Who knows. Anyway, I should be up and running by Thursday.

Here are some recent posts ......

Nice job Debbie, 2 in the can, awesome!

Aaron, if you guys want to PM me your finals I can arrange them on a nice background.

Daestwen...I'm sorry for bringing this up again, no disrespect intended. :) What if my little clubby is a pet for my main character? I see some teams have there characters riding animals, it's kinda the same? I was gonna do a white seal cub pet for my good character so they balance out. Lemme know, either way it's all good. THANKS!

I agree with Tim, I think he should be able to use his "pet". :)

As a companion piece to my newest idea I thought I'd post her evil counter part

Tim - That's an awesome little dude there, if he's not allowed to be in the portrait, you could do a 'spinoff'

Debbie - Quite the pair of frosty babes workin for yeh..

I figure I'll post my wip so far on the bad dude. I think the lighting is a bit funky but I'm trying my hand at a close flame being the source... I'll experiment later on tonight but it shouldn't be too bad (i hope)

Debbie - I like the ladies, but I say go with the foxes!

Shawn - Nice one, loving the progress on the evil dude.

Debbie:Those are cool chicks~What are their stories?

t i m: Your pencil lines are delicious, and the pose and composition is awesome too~

Shawn:Love the wip on the evil dude....Pretty cool setting~

So I did some work on the evil battlemage~

She betrayed her fellow battlemages and fled to the frozen land to study the art of necromancy~
After long prolonged influence of the dark arts, she obtained supernatural ghoulish strength. The muscles on her hands gradually faded away, and now, she has SKELETON HANDS!

Here is the armor design.
I kinda like the idea of a sheep skull on her head, but I'm not sure if I should make it more like a helmet, or a mask~

The rest of the body could use some work though. I suck at armors.

I think I will add more patterns/decorations on the armor when I decided on a pose~
762890

Weapon design.
762888

And some poses for her.
762889

Gotta hurry up. 4 days left~

Tim that's a cool sketch so far... Can't wait to see it grow.

Aaron, an awesome storyline. Keep it going dude, I can't wait to see both your girls!

A few little additions and subtractions... maybe a bit of random guessing :rocker:

Did a shista tonnage on the evil dude, and a bit of a touchup on the good dude.

I'll work on the stories as soon as possible.

I'm thinking that this will be it for these two, I get the feeling that if I continue to play with them too much longer... they will breakdown.

I'll go ahead and send them your way Tim.

----- Good Dude -----

The wandering swordsman, Taliriktug.

After swearing vengeance against the demented tribe that ransacked and destroyed his village, raping and killing his wife, and defiling his family's burial grounds; Taliriktug sought out the lands for a trail to their lands with his ancestral battle gear. His blood hot with rage, and his body unrelenting moving against the cold frigid landscape he finds what he's been looking for. His family and friends' murderers making camp across the snow dunes. Now not even heaven nor hell will stop him.

----- Evil Mofo -----

The murderous blademaster, Tukugaq

This fiendish man wielding a most unusual blade has been infamous across the Great Northern Territories. It was said that he was a warlord's vice general until slaying him and his entire platoon of soldiers all with a smile on his face. His massive set of scars that run across his body, a signature of his battles and a measure of his skills as a swordsman.

Oh well, I feel I should say something after this whole thing~

I don't regret participating at all~You guys are pure awesome, and I do feel kinda bad for being kinda inferior in skills.

And actually, this is the first time that I attempt to finish something from mind, and a lot of those stuff that I know from life drawings and studies do not come quite easily. That's why the result is less than satisfactory. There's still a long way to go I guess~

Sorry for having procrastinated a bit~ Bad habit.......

I feel I have learned a lot from this, that's more important than the result, right?

And t i m.......what happened to ya?

The Crazy Dude SRD
September 2nd, 2009, 08:18 AM
Lady and Gents this has been an enlightening and fun experience. I feel that there was alot learned and earned in this one. There were bounderies pushed and minds warped. I for one have been pushed into color and now I don't wanna look back. I certainly hope we can still keep in touch.

I do not regret that we didn't achieve but I will value what was gained.

Although I did want to see that nice cut of rainbow obsidian used as a backdrop ;)

Later
