we have a team song! last time our team did nothing, but i made a song in honor of the team..:grandpa:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ivmlRQU4kQ0&hl=sv&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ivmlRQU4kQ0&hl=sv&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

two days ago we met up and talked concept. We figured that concepting out a gigantical planet and building our characters from what they'd need to survive in the environments of it.

A little summary of how the conversation went:

okay, the planet is huge, huge enough to be the center of its solarsystem, with the sun/suns revolving around it. The poles are scewed, so one side is almost always alight and the other almost allways night, with days that are like a year and then a week of light and vice versa.
The population is mainly living in one/two cities that are of course super large, north america-large or earth-large. there are trains that go out into the wild to collect wood etc, and maybe some small outposts and cabins outside the city, but only small parts of the planet is discovered.
we didn't really decide what kind of technology they would have, but not to advanced I think.. I'm thinking 1910's or 20's or sumething, but absolutely not steampunk. yeh, and then to design the characters from what they'd need in whatever environment they are in. in terms of clothing, what would someone living in a swamp where there is night all the time wear? I guess we would have to have people living outside the city, to make it a little more interesting.
yes thats about it.

we should look up inspiprational pictures for the different environments yeah? like the pros do, so maybe this thread could look a bit more professional!

(edit: le rules)

This month's Team Chow is going to be a little different! This time, we are creating fantasy portraits for player characters - with good and evil versions! It's both a wide open brief and a very strict one! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a random team from the options given to you below, and to create 4-8 fantasy portraits that read well together and still look awesome separately. Thus, as a team, you must create a compatible 'look' for your characters.

ConceptArt.Org is going to be running game design activities and it is our hope that some of these characters could really inspire people doing activities on the other parts of the site too! Fuel for their fire so to speak. :]

Also, Jason has allowed me to offer you some fabulous prizes!

The winning team will get four downloads of their choice each and a pass to an upcoming live streaming course right here on conceptart.org!

Also, individuals within teams are also up for a prize! These will be given for leadership, and for extra effort in making great characters. This prize will consist of four downloads and the pass to attend ca live streaming event.

On to the nitty-gritty:

Here are the rules!

1. Teams of two MUST create at least 4 portraits, teams of three or four need 6 and teams of five need 8. You are perfectly welcome to create more images that the requirement if you feel your team is up to it.
2. You must take a random selection of the choices below. Please don't do 4 elven fighters, or only orcs, for example. Please take a randomized selection. If you would prefer me to give your team a specific assignment, I will generate the selection for you. If I see teams doing more select parties, then I will request you to change to something more random.
3. You must follow the format provided. See it below, please!
4. You must do a LIGHT and a DARK version for each character, please! This means that for each character you need two portraits.
5. You must submit a paragraph about each character. Do a short write up for each character you create. I want to see some interesting, stereotype-breaking stuff here, folks!

PLEASE SELECT ONE OF EACH CATEGORY FOR EACH CHARACTER.

Gender: Male / Female

Race: Human / Elf / Half-Elf / Dwarf / Orc - (and anything else you can think of!)

Class: Fighter (Barbarians, Knights, Dark Knights, Brawlers, etc) / Thief (Assasins, Rogues, etc)/ Spell Caster (Wizards, Sorcerers, Druids, etc) / Healer (Priest, Cleric, White Mage, Medic, etc) - (feel free to make up something for this, too)

Alignment: Good / Evil (please do both for each character)

YES, THESE LOOK LIKE STEREOTYPES. IT IS YOUR JOB TO BREAK THEM. I want to see some really interesting, kick ass stuff!

Okay, NOW GO!

Here is my first contribution:

http://www.space-art.co.uk/images/artwork/exoplanets/Sister-Earth-III.jpg

Another impression of the extrasolar planet Gliese 581c, which resembles the Earth but which is five times its mass. I show the planet with two hypothetical satellites and a system of rings.

here is a quick MOOD BOARD made by me. I hope our visions are even close to each other.

This is going to be like if a fantasy world had sex with Mad Max, steampunk, sci fi, all of us, and reality, and then had the baby.

as said, the train going out in the desert wilderness like that, just a track dissapearing out is supercool! ok got some stuff too

Ryden_

It's like when you look at the nature pictures you need to feel that the wilderness goes on and on and on, larger than the surface of the earth even to the next settlement.

And as per our discussion os msn: The light side/dark side of the planet is the perfect setup for the dual portraits.

it's true, I work in daytime. I work long I work hard and I work for a low wage.. the park can be a treacherous place, the men in charge are hard as bone i tell you

Indeed a great meeting, our opinions which started from different places ended up in a well thought and working mix. This will for sure be an interesting journey I believe, for all of us. We have proven ourselves worthy of more collaborations for sure!

Although in those pictures, it looks like the meeting was very boring. It wasn't.

gunnarsson
August 4th, 2009, 01:35 PM
good meet, I got a good feeling about the world we're creating, this'll be fun! those huge photos look gloomy.

got a quick envo done today, i'm thinking a boney, thin but tough man, weather-bitten. i thought of hard, tough, slow growing trees like a juniper, perhaps that he could have a lot of wood in his clothes, or perhaps even sum'n like wooden horns or whatever. It would fit the tracker the best I guess, but yeh..

Konstruktion
August 5th, 2009, 06:47 PM
That is one sweet piece. Sweet. I gave envo some tries myself. Anywho. The title is misspelled mannen! Don't forget the Kosmokrator part
HGere's a dude I drew, thinking about the tracker. Obviously this guy has the kind of anatomy one gets from moving 24/7 and eating only what's necessary in order to keep up with the hunted one/ones. Not too much stuff to carry. Just a quick sketch though, don't mind him falling over. He wouldn't, because what is pain for a man whose whole life is nothing but a search? I/We do not want him to look that much like a human being, it's just my darn imagination playing me sprats. I'll keep drawing though, and give the digi ones a few more shots. A lot more shots.

gunnarsson
August 6th, 2009, 11:46 AM
cool johan, i like him being boney and strong!

got a few character sketches, none got the way that I wanted.

and also, we must use iggy pop as a reference for the tracker haha!

And this will probably be what I start painting on top of pretty soon. Knowing myself, I'm not gonna come up with anything more advanced than this. And I can make changes here and there once I get started.

August 15th, 2009, 06:29 PM
nice! i don't think you have to limit youself to what you think your abilities stretch to, why not try to take it further if you think you are on that brink!:) you could try some dramatic pose, try some angles and that, looking at refs, you know. thats what i can come up with anyways... but yeah we're doing it cause its fun so phuck it if ya don't feel like it!
Its good that you've actually started, we need to do sum'n here! me first shall be a fisherman, class human. probably close to the old man, but more tattoos showing so, less clothes!
how much should i do? cause we are still supposed to send them around painting some on all right? i'm eager to start on that one now!

Ryden_
August 15th, 2009, 06:36 PM
Well, I'm definetely challenging my limits with the painting right now. I will continue tomorrow. Heres a wip. :geekg:

That's awesome stuff!

gunnarsson
August 17th, 2009, 02:04 PM
I dont know how much I should do! I get excited about it and want to do it all, i know it'll be the same on the next one I start lol.. We must figure out how to send photoshop files, maybe it doesn't work no good on msn? or well why shouldn't it. ANYWAYS! i like the composition in this, this'll be fun!:) he is supposed to be standing in the water, and those round things are baskets, hopefully that will be more clear later!

gunnarsson

JOHAN! i assure you that I am not on fire! calm down.

Ryden_
August 17th, 2009, 07:45 PM
Petter, just keep drawing while its fun, and dont worry about the collaboration part. We can figure that out later, maybe just add little things we think about to each others portraits.

Konstruktion

gunnarsson
August 23rd, 2009, 07:36 AM
well now it is tomorrow! i'm very bussy standing at the frontlines of my team in the neighbourhood soccer tournament, shoulder to shoulder with the brave young men that are one day going to be the eternal soccer-legends of a nation. We fight hard and fair I tell you, no team can mach the wild stare of win that we swoop across the gravel battlefield! but yeh i'm'na work some now too.
