Ok quick sketch to began with the brainstorming.

I will make some researches on the topic details and fantasy type of characters
We need also to find a "look" for the characters to make them all compatible.

Nice work Ionic! Good start

We need to do four characters with the good and bad versions...so that would be eight(still we need to see how we can change one version to fit the other)

Things to do:

*make a common universe, "look" and equipment, to make the characters fit in a team
*stablish character gender, race, class, and alignment
*write a little descriptions of the characters(this needs to be done for the finals)
*decide a common presentation(included the finished look i think)
*decide how we want to make the good and evil designs(how much we want to change from character to character, etc)

These are the suggested characteristic in the brief:

Gender: Male / Female

Race: Human / Elf / Half-Elf / Dwarf / Orc - (and anything else you can think of!)

Class: Fighter (Barbarians, Knights, Dark Knights, Brawlers, etc) / Thief (Assasins, Rogues, etc)/ Spell Caster (Wizards, Sorcerers, Druids, etc) / Healer (Priest, Cleric, White Mage, Medic, etc) - (feel free to make up something for this, too)

Alignment: Good / Evil (please do both for each character)

At the moment those seems to be the more important points.

We have a month to do the eight characters.
So we could use 4 to 5 days for the concept ideas and sketches and the rest for the finished characters,no?

Tell me what you think.

Hello, I would like to join your group. Take a look at my sketchbook and let me know if I have what it takes. I'd love to join in this Team CHOW since it's mostly what I do anyways.

If I'm not what you're looking for, no hard feelings.

Oh and btw, I love your drawing style.

Links with information about the races:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orc
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elves
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-elves

we need to do four characters with two versions each.
Im thinking in a roster of characters like this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
edit:reading again the main topic thread i realize that we need to do two characters four portraits(two versions per character)...what you think? you think we still can do the four characters, eight portraits?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*A human fighter....a) good side:a male private soldier or some kind of
militian/commando/guerrillero
b) bad side:a male private soldier or some kind of
bounty hunter

*Elf healer...........a)good side:cleric
b) bad side:dark cleric

*Half-elf thief.......a)good side:female rogue
b) bad side:female assasin

*Orc caster.........a)good side:male sorcerer
(or some other b) bad side:male dark sorcerer
creature)

this are some temptative ideas.
Tell me what you think

Nice sketch.I like the "Good" elf concept, is what i had in mind.
The "Bad" elf concept is very interesting. I really like the clipped ears(it show a deeper, viral rejection of elves "conditions") so i would say that's a good direction to go. I like the painting on the face too.The two options we can use in this part of the design is: basic almost "brutal" paint(intimidating the adversary) and the other option is a more complex painting(nothing to extreme, though) that portray "vanity" or at least a special atention on the exterior(in oposition to the good elves that commune with the inside and the nature...cliche, but could worth the try). Regarding the clothes, what do you think about mixing human standards of clothes and partial armour? I think something quite clean but elaborated could work.In a sense something very "fashion".
The hair is good...i like the partialy shaved one. But the other probably fit better the concept.Don't know really.A strange hair cut could fit with the ideology of this dark elves(the summatory of their despite for elves, vanity and love for the exterior). In any case is up to you.

One important thing is that the bad versions needs to be a modification of the good...in other words needs to be readed as the same character but from the other side(if it was a game character that you can choose afiliation or change the character acording to moral behavior, etc). So we need the same pose and facial characteristics(form) but with modifications.

Some thougths on the matter. Good work, keep it coming.

I will work in the good human and the bad counterpart.
At the moment i think we should focus only on the human and the elf.
And if the time allows we can work on the orc and then on the half-elf.

Cheers

Really digging the general design... I just think you should go with a bit more flash... like a leather guard around one arm or like some pouches... some smaller details to add texture to him. looking great for sure tho!

DIMAGYAN
August 3rd, 2009, 11:58 PM
Thanks Ionic. You are right about the smaller details.Good advice.

I played a bit with the idea of some kind of "low budget" soldier... a peasent who rise on arms...something along those lines.
I like the idea of a varieted roster of players not only in the design but also on the equipment or strength. That's something to investigate a bit more.

What do you think of make the orc and half-elf concepts? The elves concepts are pretty much finished for me(unless you want to explore more the design for those characters).
The final illustrations could take some time to be done(depending on our sheddule and the level of detail) so i don't know how many portraits we can handle.

So perhaps it worth the try to make the concepts of the orc and the half-elf now, and use the next couple of weeks to finished the eigth portraits?
And finished then the elves and the humans first and the other two later if we have the time?

I don't know if the time allows.Just some thoughts.
Tell me what you think.

Ionic
August 4th, 2009, 07:35 PM
trevor: thanks brother... diga is a great teammate.

DIMAGYAN: I completely agree. I want to do one more run at the elves just to clean them up... and then I'll move on to the orcs... since I really don't wanna do another elf like char... that would be boring :)

DIMAGYAN
August 4th, 2009, 08:12 PM
Trevor: thanks! Ionic's work is great so much credit for him.

Ionic:Great.Haha yeah i had the same thougth.I didn't writed before because i wanted to see what character you want to do after the elves...and the orc seems the perfect choice after the priest elf for you.
So, you work on the orc and i will re work the bad version of the human and then i will start with the half-elf.

How do you feel about doing the orc relative young? (not too much, between 20/25 years?
A caster character(sorcerer maybe?) but more of anything an aprentiece.
Or, an old orc...some sort of respectable sorcerer or any other option (Wizards, Sorcerers, Druids, etc..) or maybe you want to do other kind of class?

Just some ideas. Mainly because we have two character in their 30 + years (more or less)
so maybe we could have a variation on ages for this two new characters?
Im thinking to make the half-elf a 17/20 years girl or perhaps a 10 yrs young girl.

We could also start to think in the context of the characters(nothing to elaborated, mainly age, ocupation, relation with the powers and sides in the "conflict" of the hipotetycal story, etc) i need to check this on the rules, so as soon as i have something more clear on this i will posted in here.

Tell me what you think.

Hey guys! I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread.. but I noticed your team status as "forming" so I figured, what the hell, I'll try my hand at pitching you guys for a third team member! I have a lot to learn and am currently trying to get my act together by cranking out some finished pieces, so I promise to work hard for the team and not disappoint! You both seem pretty awesome, and I appreciate thorough critiques, even if it means scrapping and starting from scratch! I'd be honored to colab' with you guys, but if not, no big deal, just ignore the post. Here are my ideas for a good thief/rogue, I'll do a dark version tomorrow if your interested. Peace.

Dark_Eyes: Hey dark... I really like your work brother I browsed through your sketchbook. I think we are pretty set on this chow... but if its okay with Diga... I would love to invite you to the next one :) again great work.

DIMAGYAN's: Loving that Halfy diga... looks great... but it very much follows the visual style of the human... intentional?

DIMAGYAN
August 5th, 2009, 04:08 PM
Ionic:Yeah no problem at all, next time Dark_eyes can join the team.As you said the main reason is that we are pretty much set for this one.

Sorry i should write this before.Mainly im thinking in a character who doesn't quite trust either humans or elves but lives among humans...so she use human clothes and accesories, etc.(perhaps still i can put some elf elment) The visual change would be in the bad version were she use something more related to elves and in particular to dark elves...beacuse she rebel against elves(those who helps humans) and humans alike. Well sort of. Just some ideas. I have to see if it works.
I will use the last two concepts you did as reference for the elves style.

Great work Ionic! Love the orc summoner, i like the direction you are taking for that character.
Very nice work also on the new pose for the Priest.I like the benevolent gesture.

Ok, the evil version of the half-elf. Mainly a very angry thief who turn against humans and elves.(we have to think about the alliance of the characters)

744274

I think we need to finish the concept stage this week in order to make the finished eight portraits in the next weeks. What do you think?
Also, what kind of illustration we want to make? Painting or line art? What level of detail? i guess the best idea should be thinking in something posible to make in a short time and if then we have more time we could work a bit more,no?
I don't know, i guess we could talk about this after we have the complete roster of characters in the concepts.

Cheers

Ionic
August 6th, 2009, 05:51 AM
I really dig how your halfy has taken on costume traits of both human and elf alike... well played. glad you liked the orc.

the concept on the orc is that hes extremely frail and weak... he could never take direct damage... but he doesn't need to because he can summon armies with the sacrifice of blood or self.

I'm still super rusty and don't really like the "refined" elf... just rubs me the wrong way... but I agree we should move on and get all the concepts done and start thinking about the finals. I think we should do one illo per concept pair. like a dynamic image that includes both the good and evil versions of the chars.

DIMAGYAN
August 6th, 2009, 04:40 PM
Ionic: I really like the orc concept. I like the idea of a weak character who is a summoner.Great work.

Well you could work more on the elves sketches. My main concern is about the design and concept stage and the time that's left for the finished works. As i see it the elves concepts are done, you could however work on the entire drawing if you want(change pose, expression, etc). But the characters designs are pretty much ready i think. In any case if you are not content with your results you can re work what you don't like.

I have to read the rules, but i think we need to submit every single portrait. Perhaps we could also add every concept with the two versions as you suggested. i like the idea of the pair concepts on the same sheet(it clearly shows the differences).
I will check this on the topic thread and then i will post in here.

Dark Eyes is part of the team now so he will do at the moment two portraits
making a total of ten portraits that needs to be done for deadlines.

Cheers

Hey guys! Thanks for having me.. I'm proud to be part of the team! Let's fall into some rabbit holes...

I like your idea for a younger goblin, Dimagyan. It goes against the stereotype of a nasty, decrepit creature. In this sketch she is a bit older but the idea has set me on a course... I will probably modify the design to make her more nubile.

A paladin is a kind of divine knight, so I was thinking that in our universe, maybe an ancient ancestor of the goblins, somehow usurped god-like powers from the elves. They are graceful, honorable creatures, with elemental powers (controlling nature, animals, etc...) I'm thinking of making them armored like a knight, with purplish-gray skin and white eyes.

I'll post a full armored version tomorrow, let me know what you guys think...

DIMAGYAN
August 7th, 2009, 03:54 PM
Dark_Eyes: Good start! that's very nice. I like the idea of a young female goblin. Im not to sure about a paladin class.I like the idea of somehow "divine" character...related with nature something ehtereal and spiritual.but perhaps a more practical kind of outfit it fits better the universe we are building. As have you see it, the magic presence in the concepts we have made so far is not spectalcular, idon't know, i guess we have to see it to check if it fits.
Remember that the final characters must be in portarait format, that is full frontal figure.(check the link in my first post to read the rules).looking forward for your sketches and ideas.

Dark_Eyes
August 8th, 2009, 07:36 AM
Dimaygan: I agree that the paladin idea may not fit... the rules specified that they were looking for us to break stereotypes, so I wanted to pick something a bit uncommon for a goblin. In fact, I was already sketching out this heavily armored version and i realized that it was a bit over the top. (cant help it some times.. :D)

soooo... I ditched that one and tried to tone it down, maybe fit it into the other designs. I'm thinking of an alchemist class. Unlike, say the orc summoner, maybe their magic is found in the mechanistic elements of nature (potions, chemical compounds, explosives etc...). Perhaps this is a bit more "down to earth" design wise..

I just found out I'm house sitting for a friend next week, so i should have plenty of time to knock out some illustrations in a big, beautiful house ... all to myself!!!>:D

Ionic: Nice stuff... I have a feeling your finals are going to blow me away! I second your idea to illustrate each character's good and bad sides together... Keep it up!

about 10% done should finish today? gonna start the evil elven tomorrow I think.

DIMAGYAN
August 10th, 2009, 04:05 PM
Dark_Eyes:very good. The alchemist idea is very nice.Regarding the look of the character it doesn't have to be related with the elven and the humans,we need to make all the characters as if they live in the same world, but they don't have to share all the clothes, accesories and style. What we should think is about utility of the design. For instance: the good elf is a priest, so is quite different from the human fighter. Both characters have different roles so they need different designs.
I like the suit, i don't know if the armour is needed for an alchemist.I think that character could have a less "warrior" look in favor of a more "intelectual","professor" look. Breaking the stereotype of goblins but in another direction. Some ideas.again, nice work.

Ionic:Great work with the good elf.I really like the colour pallete.

What do you want to do with the background? thats a good element to unify all of our concepts i think.
Using a similar pattern and/or colour guides(for instance intense colours for evil and pastel colours for good backgrounds, etc)
I think that making our backgrounds according to general design idea it would help to relate the characters.
What do you think, Ionic and Dark Eyes?

I would start to polish the human.

cheers

Working on the concepts.
Not too sure about colours...

748911

Ionic
August 11th, 2009, 01:27 PM
DIMAGYAN: Visually amazing renderings! but. the evils aren't very evil brother... dirt, grime, scars, overwhelming dread... I totally get the contrast between the characters... but I'm not seeing good and evil... I'm seeing 2 different factions or sides.

When I think of evil... its glowing red eyes, scars, spikes, angular or gothic designs, malice in the facial expressions. even the vibrant backgrounds are dropping the evil factor... try desaturating the colors and just use accents more.

love the work as always keep it up guys... gonna work on the elvens now and hopefully get good done, and evil started.

DIMAGYAN
August 11th, 2009, 06:14 PM
Ionic:Thanks for the comments and suggestions mate.

I know what you mean about the evil versions.Perhaps i'm thinking too much in the context.
My main interest is to make the human character not evil but "bad" to the "player" point of view.In other words as you said different factions or sides.

The kind of changes that can happen if the player choose to play as the antagonist side of the hypotethical game. As an example: let's say the player start with the good human but in the game began to make choices and actions that led him/her to play for the other side...in this case the player began as a fighter (a peasant armed) and can choose to work for the "royal" army on the other faction. Something along this lines.
Perhaps i need to put a more malice in his expression and changing more the general feel of the head.

Mainly i don't want to make an evil human character with body changes trhough magic, etc.
But for the rest of the characters that's good because we have a priest and a summoner(one could change because of the religion and the other for the source of the magic) For the half elf i want to make something inbetween.I would change the colour of one of her eyes and perhaps the hair(to shown her elf part).Regarding the alchemist i think it could show the change made by "science" at least what represent science in our universe, so perhaps she can change part of her body through alchemy.

So then we have: Ideological,politic,monetary,etc change(human). Religion, cult, adoration,etc change(elf). Anger,culture, religion, ideology,money,etc change(hal-elf).
Source magic, cult, ritual change(orc) and Scientific, power thirst change(goblin)

It's a bit stereotypical i guess but i like the range of posibilities for swaping sides with all the character roster.

I should writed this before, sorry

What do you think?

Hey guys, I've really been enjoying your slick designs and clean concepts! Everything is super readable and readily available for the viewer. One thing that is kind of odd is that I'm getting a strong Star Wars vibe, this may be intentional or just a by product of using modern influences. Not to say that's bad, just an observation. Keep up the good work!

Dark_Eyes
August 14th, 2009, 06:49 PM
Hey guys, sorry for not posting... I'm house sitting for a friend, and the internet pass key she gave me isn't working, so I have to commute home to get on the internet :(.

Dimagyan: I like your ideas for making the goblin power thirsty, I may have to toy with the designs a bit, maybe incorporate some kind of shape-shifting type element, show more of a connection to nature.. I like the expression on the humans. I think you could probably push the dirt and grime a bit more in the dark version, (something i should probably do in my design :), otherwise they are looking great!

Ionic: Love them so far!, the composition of the posing is working nicely, very still and serene in the good version, jutting and irreverent in the bad... the expressions in the faces are nice too. I'm not sure about what the bad elf is holding though, kinda' looks like an apple, but you probably have yet to clarify that.. Nice work!

Here's my dark goblin version so far, I want to make it a bit dirtier i think, maybe add some more elements to the costume.. I'm following the more scholarly look to the characters and will probably push that idea more. Feel free to shout out if this sucks.. I will throw some color on these later tonight and tomorrow..

CKLamb:Thanks for the nice words! Star wars? I don't know, to be honest it wasn't intentional. After reading your comments i revised the characters over and over again! he. The colours are quite iconic and the human bad version it has a pretty cliche "evil" colour pallette so that could be part of the similitude? Thanks again!

0zz0:Thanks!

trevor:Thanks for your comments and crits, much aprecciatted.Star Trek next generation? i guess the colours could give that vibe. The clean almost "new" look too.Texture is something my concepts lack. Thanks again

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark_Eyes:Great work! i like the feel of the character. The alchemist idea can be really interesting visually, for the evil version i think.Perhaps something attached to her body, something that scream "bad use of science" I don't know exactly what, feel free to experiment :) (i will research on this later).I like also the details attached to the belt.Looking forward to the other portrait.

Ionic:Great work! i love the orc.it gives a totally different feel for the characters options to the "player".Well done. Great work also on finished both illustrations.

I think we need to match the backgrounds to make all the characters as the same universe.Right now we have three types of background:full page, part of the page with more strokes, and one blank.

You did the backgrounds in a different layer? so maybe we could just "paste" all the characters to the same pattern with different colours? don't know.Just some ideas.

Feel free Ionic and Dark Eyes to suggest other aproaches for this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't did too much, and the next couple of days i will a bit busy.
Still we have time, but i want to finish my portraits as soon as posible to then start to work on the presentation(We need to make a sort of document with the team activities, duties, etc plus the information for the characters...)

So, here is a small progress on the half-elf. Trying to put the elves elements on her, red eye gor the dark, and green eye for the good version.

Sorry Ionic, i have been a bit busy the past days.

Hey guys, crap i'm sorry, been out of town, was away from internet, then I come home and get caught up in these conceptart.org lectures... geez' I still feel like such a noob'... but I've learned more in the past week than i did in 4 yrs of art school.. Rest assured, I have the entire week devoted to finishing these and everything done has been for the greater good! DAMN you guys are awesome, I really do feel honored to watch you guys work..

Dimagyan: I like the progress. I kind of like Trevor's idea for more textures, I think some patterns on the clothing or the shoulder pad to make it a bit more interesting? some fringe or something to break up the shapes a bit?... just some ideas...

Ionic: I'm here brotha' man!.. and I think you win award for most productive! I'll fight to the bitter end! I love your stuff so far... the second dark elf sits with me a little better than the first, I love his pose and that cool red rim light gives it a nice accent. The mask doesn't really bother me, but it may be cool to see the full expression, dunno'...
I think some textures on the costumes might be nice to play around with, I'd like to see more indications of what the actual fabric is made of.. I'm experimenting with that as well...keep it up YOU ROCK!

I went through iteration hell on this one, and there are more details left still... I wanted to go for that sickly horror film pallette, and since i'm just now learning some tricks about color temperature, I figured i'd try a cool light source with warmer shadows... don't know how successful it is (by the way I intended to make her flesh's local color purplish, it kinda' looks a bit dead..). Dimagyan, I liked your idea about alchemical equipment. I gave her a magical flask that she can mix magical elixir with potions to get projectiles.. still will play around with this one... Oh and i don't know about you guys, but I'm saving my character with a mask so we can swap out different backgrounds at the last second.. Nice work guys!

hey guys, was wondering what you thought about some crude backgrounds for our characters? This is a rather uninspired attempt so far, might throw some kind of castle in the background to add some depth. Looking at the other threads around here, I kinda' wish I had done something a bit more illustrative, o' well, maybe next time... What do you guys think? I'll post my progress on the good ver. tomorrow.

Dark Eyes:Well, i understand what you say about having more narration, but i think that an abstract kind of background works well for the type of poses and presentation we aim.In any case that can be worked later.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the moment my biggest concern is to meet the deadline...i'm really behind on the sheddule with my portraits, don't know if i could make the four. And i can only work on this today at dawn and sunday. We need at least six between the three of us.
How's your progress Dark and Ionic?
Really sorry about my lack of progress.

Ok, we are almost done with the minimum number of portraits.
The human fighter is almost done in his two versions(only rest the hands and the swords) and the Half-elf portraits are close to finish.

Here are the guidelines for the submission:

SUBMISSION GUIDLINES

The Final Burning Thread will go up ONE WEEK before deadline. The deadline will be August 31st, at 11:59 pm GMT - 4, Eastern Daylight Time. I will accept submissions as long as it is August somewhere in the world, but after this I will close the thread. I am going to give myself 1-2 days to then sort out the poll and the voting, so please be patient.

1. One team member will be in charge of submitting the final entry. How the entry is presented will be up to you, but keep it consistent and coherent.
2. Remember that you will need to submit wips. If you decide to make a group sketchbook for this activity, a link to that will suffice.
3. Also sumbit a list of Team Activity. I want to see how well you worked as a team - who was in charge of what and what each member did.
4. All other ChoW rules apply. If you are not familiar with the usual chow rules, please read the guidlines thread sticked at the top of the subforum. Including, 3/4ths rule, no paint-overs, etc.
5. Please submit files with this naming convention: TeamChow_TeamName_Image001.jpg
6. Please keep to the format of the image below. We're gonna be a little bit more strict about presentation this time - each portrait should be portrait-aligned, like so, and the figure about as big as the one you see below. Full bodied figures, please.

the format is:

766319

i made the calculations for the 300 dpi files, then we can resize for the web.

We need the character descriptions, team activity, etc...
I can do the submission(just post your portraits in here in the correct format and i will upload in the final thread), but it could be probably a good idea that you two write the descriptions and team activities(or at least correct my grammar because im a disaster for english!)...anyaway, in any case we can do this during the day before the deadline,no?

In the meantime we can post(if you want ofcourse) some ideas for the descriptions of the portraits we did and what we did.

Cheers

Looking good Dimagyan! I really like how you pushed the textures in the fighters, hopefully you will finish half elfs?
here are my finals, I'm going with the black background and text, but that's optional... give me a second to write up a description...

I will upload the portraits in a moment.

Not sure if this is what they're looking for, but here goes

Team White Rabbit Assignments:
Ionic:
-Design a good/evil version of a male elf priest
-Design a good/evil version of a male orc summoner
Dimagyan:
-Design a good/evil version of a male human fighter
-Design a good/evil version of a female, half-elf rogue
Dark Eyes:
-Design a good/evil version of a female goblin alchemist

My idea for the Goblin characters was to make them more intellectual, contrary to the typical, slimy, brutish stereotypes of Goblins. The evil version has more adult proportions with a sickly, cool palette to create a feeling of tension. The Good version has warmer highlights with more childlike facial proportions to suggest a welcoming "beyond-her-years" wisdom. In both characters, I wanted the costumes to be more aristocratic, with rare fabrics and ornamental elements, giving them an institutionalized setting, i.e. a school for alchemical science.

Young female Goblin Alchemist- Good: Young goblin's that seek the knowledge of wind and fire are noble creatures and can be trusted. A small alchemical flask strapped to their belt holds the elixir of life, and can be mixed with various potions to create magical spells and control creatures of the sky. Good goblins have limited magical powers and must rely on their knowledge of alchemical science and reason to affect change in their environment.

Young female Goblin Alchemist- Evil: Goblin's that seek the wisdom of water and earth, are despicable creatures indeed... Evil Goblin's seek power over others, and mix their elixir of death with potions to create wicked spells and to control the creatures of the earth. Evil Goblins have limited magical powers, but their control over savage beasts is not to be underestimated.

This has been a blast! I would love to keep the team going and tackle next round with more strength and direction... I've learned so much this time, and would like to improve upon this months effort, by taking on more assignments that are more illustrative in scope. I still feel like I'm dipping my toe in the water, but I am also starting to streamline my process and think I can handle a bit more next time... Let me know what you guys think, it's been a pleasure.. onward!!!

p.s. dimagyan: p.m. me if you need anything else...

agreed... damn good work by all... I think the quality was there! but organization lacked a bit... most cause not much was layed out in the begining...

DIMAGYAN: Amazing effort and awesome output brother... I can't wait to do another round with you... I think this team could turn into a force in future rounds.

Dark_Eyes: Great work also... not bad starting late and finishing strong.

I apologize I didn't have time to finish my final rendering :( life kinda got in the way a bit... that and procrastinating early on... but since this was my first team chow I now have a better concept of the work load :)

Ionic:Thanks mate.I look forward to work in the next team chow with you .You did a great work.Awesome paintings.
Life sometimes get in the way, no problem.
Procrastination was a bit of a problem for me too.

Dark eyes:I agree with Ionic, you did a great work. Also you was very active to share your ideas and to work with the initial "universe" we set for this team.Well done.

Agreed about the lack of organization.Hopefully next time we can change this. Now we now what to expect about the work and mechanics of tchow.

Overall this was a great experience, so thanks to both of you for your work and dedication to this team.

until next round.

Cheers

Ionic: Thanks brother! You are first rate! I think I could learn a lot from you.. (would like to see you handle some girly girls in the next round :yum:).

Dimagyan: Again, Thank you! I am so fortunate to have such talented and inspirational teammates!

Definitely, organization could improve next round. Maybe now that we're a bit more established and can read each other better, things will go more smoothly next time. So much depends on that first round of ideas, kinda' like the first couple minutes of meeting someone, it sets the tone for the entire progress of that relationship.. Next round we can start strong, all together, right out the gate...

I really am learning a ton from this activity, the online classes at ca.org, etc... and hope to really show myself up next round.. here are a few notes I thought of after observing some of the other teams, maybe it will help next time..

- Post Reference: I don't know about you guys, I suffer from the "do it all from your head" disease, even though I know how useful reference is for creating good concepts. My way of changing this lately is to pull my reference out when I need to understand something better, ask myself questions, take mental notes, then I hide all the ref' and do it from my head... That way I feel like I'm actively learning how to paint something. Still, it couldn't hurt to post a bunch of reference in the sketchbook so we could all get on the same page..

- No shame in the game: I never think of my ideas as set in stone, so if you want to colab' and paintover my work, feel free.. (although they mention no paintovers in the CHOW rules, I don't know if that is what they're talking about, I'll have to check..)

- More sketches and thumbs: This all depends on work-flow and personal preference, but I think that during this critical, initial phase of idea development, exploring all these elements early on, (form, silhouette, posing, design, color keys, etc, ect... you name it), can only help us to unify our designs and create a more cohesive team entry...

- Some kind of environmental setting for our characters: I know that this is more time consuming and challenging, but personally I'm going to try to add this in the next round. It does so much to sell your concept, you have to admit... Maybe this is something we should consider when brainstorming...

Until next round....
