I was going to do a spoof of a newspaper with the headline "Egyptian Gored" and have a story about an Egyptian man who was trampled in the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona.
Then I thought, about "gored" as in Al Gore. Then I thought "bored" as in Al Gore. I looked up a picture of the President of Egypt with George Bush and then thought "Egyptian Bored" could be a funny headline instead.

Well, since I've put all you poor folks through this crap, I decided to continue the train of thought with "what kind of egyptian is most likely to be bored?" An Egyptian Guard, of course! Here is one feeding some food to an egyptian rat (if you know card games, I'll let you continue this twisted series of thoughts on your own)...

ok, time to post something here...
i was looking for inspiration on google, and came across the mamelukes - they're islamic military landed aristocracy, who played a role in egyptian politics from the 13th-19th century... they were sultans, soldiers, and i assume guards as well :D
http://img2.photobucket.com/albums/v11/Phantom_Head/DSG_316.jpg
used a reference for the horse, 'cause i don't generally draw horses. pen and pencils.

well, here's my contribution. I'm sorry, but my imagination is broken at the moment and I'm only just learning to draw people, so the pic might be a tad less dynamic than what you could want :P

My quick contribution to todays DSG ... I could have spent more time on this, then maybe I'd be remotely satisfied with it. A couple members of the Egyptian Guard resting on a tall rock outcropping.

The forum itself is indeed here for that purpose.
But the DSG is a daily exercise. The idea is to put out random topics and let everyone have at it that day. It's at cross purposes to post older stuff. Anything that doesn't have to do with the DSG is better served in the other threads.
Nice picture, by the way.

Just a quick sketch today. Things are getting busy again now that school's started back up. *le sigh* Pencil, with photoshop color slapped on top.

Apologies for the super fast color job, but I actually got to get some sleep today. If I don't want to stumble through tomorrow morning in a haze again...
Anatomy is not my strongest point, but I can pass it off a bit in this one because he is getting torn apart by the sheer force of the impact. (Think, flying kick = sent across room headless and smashes into wall hard enough to put a dent in it even though human flesh shouldn't be able to do that.)

I love that Schwoassamoasda. I can feel the impending crushing...

dfacto: Actually, the anatomy looks pretty good to me, I think you did a good job considering those are some tricky poses. The only thing that looks a bit off to me is the guy on the left - his neck seems a bit long, and his head seems a bit too small.
Great job coming up with a really dynamic piece, tho. You can really feel the movement.

hey guys,
here's my egyptian guard. I kinda thought my priest looked sorta like a guard with that sword, so I did Horus. I don't know, he is a guard of the after-life or something.
http://www.bradkurz.com/horus.jpg
great stuff lately everyone. I haven't been posting because my girlfriend is back. She was in Florida working for the Mouse this past semester, so now that she is back I have much less time to draw. Hopefully I can figure something out...

The thing about the neck is that I was trying to make it look like it was being ripped off or at least badly broken by the impact and the guy pulling on the chain. Don't think I got it across well enough though. Maybe some action lines would have been in order?

I have been lurking around today and then I decided that I couldn't let this topic pass by so I did a sketch. I will have to color it later. Hey Teatime! Looks like we both thought of crocs, mine is based off of Sobek the Egyptian God. I ran out of paper at the bottom.

I know this topic is already passed, but I have to comment on Madmaxman's piece, that is AWESOME, I don't care if you just colored it, it is still one of my favorite things I have ever seen on this site. Great job, I had to save that piece for future reference and inspiration. Dang, that's cool...do you have a website somewhere with more? Who did the pencils?

Thanks tharmine & rockhead. No, no website yet, sorry, neither has website the person who made the pencils but I have visited yours and i liked what i have seen, specially the sketches section. See you around here.
